Todays news along with the release of the CCTV footage is excellent news and I bet BR is now stressing out and worrying what to do next. Detectives would have a lot more pieces of the jigsaw puzzle too and the noose is tightening. Maybe BR will make up a story now claiming it was accidental and try for a manslaughter plea?

I've now watched that press conference 6 times and one thing that stands out for me is that every question asked by the reporters that did not relate to the cctv footage was deflected by the DI. Questions about the cause of death, forensics in and on the car, the phone pings etc, all questions relevant to the case. Could it be that eliminating the other owners of similar cars is the final link in the chain.. :jail:

Same I have now watch it. Not 6 times though...lol
Q: Has Borce seen the footage prior to today? A: No
I would like to be a fly on the wall at the R's house today.

TD is aware of Borce's version of events and has not had any dealings with Sarah personally.
BR is not the prime suspect but he is now a police named suspect.

Also I noted that TD said the car was captured travelling nth west along the OLD Calder highway and crossing Diggers rest railway Station crossing.

Does that mean BR was telling fibs about heading up the Calder freeway and missing the turn off to the service station and then the one to the family store? .:D

DI How concerned are you that this might go cold?
Facial Expression: Looks down and shakes head. "I'm not concerned.''

Confident that you will catch the person?
Facial Expression: Looks down to left. "You can never say never." ''But I have every confidence in the investigators.'' Looks left.

How is sarah doing? Tough for her?
Looks down and nods. "I can imagine it would be'' Looks Down ''I haven't had any dealings with Sarah personally.''

Does it motivate you for people like Sarah to close cases like this?
Looks left/away from journalist. Popping mouth sound. Nods head. "It does." Nods head and looks left. "I think the truth is what motivates you.''

Is there any GPS evidence...?
Looks up and left. "I can't tell you any of that at the moment.'' Nods head more than once.

When did you get the CCTV?
Head bounces, eyes straight left. ''I cant tell you the exact date, we've had it for a period of time.''

What can you tell us about the pings from the 29th?
Shakes head. Looks straight. "I'm not going to comment on the phones.'' Hand movement. ''This is about the cars".

Driver has something to do with the other cars?
Shakes head. Looks straight. ''No, no". I don't think I have heard anyone suggest that. "Looks down and left''.

What are your hopes for the interaction?
Looks up and bits lower lip. "Well, we see the convoy of six cars'' Waving Hand signal. "Close Proximity'' Looks down left "And the car at rear.'' Looks right. Hand explaining. ''Whether the sequence of those car where different half a km down the road and overtook and saw something unusual we just don't know.''
....."See a left hand panel view of all the cars.'' Touches nose.

And there was no cars behind that last car?
Looks straight. "No, no. But there might have been minutes or hours later. Who knows.''

Down Left: Kinesthetic Checking out feelings
Left: Auditory, does it sound right?
Right: Auditory: Remembering Sounds

The last part where the DI talks about cars a few minutes later sparked my curiosity. It sounds like he would have had that conversation with someone else before. Is there more cars involved?

They obviously can't use any forensic evidence of BR's found in the car, he has already confirmed he drove it that day. They need to prove he was in it at that time, in a different place to where he stated he was, to be able to pin this on him.

Even so he will probably change his story once again.

One of the journos asked about mud on the car flaps and external forensics. The DI seemed to indicate that yes, there would be forensics like that.

As you say, they likely still need to get that little bit more evidence that it was Borce inside the car at the time.

I agree with this theory. He may have stopped at Gisborne, where Karen's last phone signal was made, dumped her there and come back later with an accomplice. The police searched this area extensively which may have been because some evidence was left here eg scent for cadaver dog to trace.

Yes, I have often wondered about this. But today the DI stated that they wanted to speak with anyone who saw Karen's car at Mt Macedon around noon that day.

Just to add ... they would have had time, by now, to do insect forensics. Gauging growth times, types, etc. To determine exactly where Karen was dumped and when. Also soil types and leaf/grass debris found on Karen's remains.

BBM
People who were in the Diggers Rest, Gisborne or Mount Macedon areas, particularly in the vicinity of the Macedon Regional Park, Mount Macedon Golf Club or Mount Macedon Road at about midday on Wednesday June 29 and who may have seen a vehicle similar to the Mercedes are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

I thought it was interesting the way the DI said that people had one chance to make a statement, and one chance only.

So it has been suggested Borce made 2 statements before clamming up. Who might he be suggesting has not made a single statement?

I was wondering the same thing. Sarah ... Vasko ....

I don't believe it would be Ant. He was absolutely brimming over and chomping at the bit to speak to everyone. And I believe police said they had spoken with him (when they mentioned that they had listened to his allegations).

Just heard on the radio that police have confirmed that B is the main suspect. (Nova FM )

Hm! Good point SouthAussie. That would indicate they know something about the time he was in Mt Macedon, wouldn't it? I agree with the previous poster though. It would have been risky to dispose of Karen's body in daylight in that area. There were houses quite close weren't there? I wonder if LE have any CCTV footage of his return trip.

Do you need an etag on the Calder Freeway?

  • #676
Surely they all (the perpetrators and accessories) knew this day would come? Unless they are just arrogant like Baden Clay was.

Do you need an etag on the Calder Freeway?

Reply #6 on Trip Advisor seems to indicate that an etag is only required between Flemington Bridge and Bell Street on the Calder Highway ... if I am reading that right. So, probably not required in the area that Karen's car was in that day?

... then the Calder until the Sunbury exit. And as pwaites said, this does involve a single toll section (between Flemington Bridge and Bell St) .....

Well Vasko did give a bit of a statement to the media.
He had not seen Karen since Sarah's 21st and that he thought she had done a runner on a fake passport and not coming back.
He pleaded for her to call him or his wife is she was not dead.
Now where was he on the 29th? I am sure cctv or phone pings will have determined where he was at some point during the day or night.
Sarah was to distressed to speak to the friend of Karen's that she had text that 4 word message "Have you seen Mum". The day following her Mum having gone for a walk to clear her head and not returning.
Though, a few days later she was on radio saying her mother had gone ballistic and just making sure we knew she was an only child. Not to mention that her mother would not do this to her.

IMO Karen was reported missing by her friend SH.

Maybe I have tunnel vision.:D

Pretty risky murdering your wife, too. But too many people do it.
I agree he may have dumped Karen then relocated her later, to what he deemed to be a better spot. Maybe took the old shovel and tried to dig a decent spot. Because it sounds as though he may not have been gone long enough to dig and dump (not even sure why I get that impression).

But it sounds as though even the initial dumping was likely at Mt Macedon.

I have always been interested in the point soso raised on a previous page, about phone pings at night. Perhaps on a return trip, with Vasko?

On the same night, Mr Ristevski's phone was detected by another tower on Calder Highway near Diggers Rest.

I was also amazed that Adrian Bayley spent the time to dig a shallow grave right at the roadside out that way (Black Hill Road) and dump Jill Meagher there.
Then ran out of petrol there, as he was heading back to the Calder Highway, and was given a ride by an unsuspecting motorist.
So there were people driving by, even at that time of night, yet he still had the nerve to go ahead with the roadside burial.

The things people do when they are adrenalined-up and trying to get rid of their crime.
