They saw a car similar to Karens merc parked on a dirt road close to wear the mothers body was eventually found...................
They then told another person who reported it to police. Investigators were unable to identify this person until this week.
It sounded like police were unable to identify the witness, not the caller, until this week. Maybe it was something like a pub conversation with a stranger, the caller couldn't say who exactly had told him the story.

I'm being serious!!

I zoomed in on the tree, there are two items above and to the right of Tim Day's head...WTF is it?

Bags? Paper?

I can't upload a PDF at the moment to show you.

I think it is just part of the tree TGY, but I like your keen observational skill and lateral thinking.

OK thanks it's still looks like two 'somethings' wedged into the tree behind that bark thingy hanging. The sun's shining on one on the left side but it the one the right that's got me intrigued.
Its too big for a leaf.

I've not noticed an accent either but they could when speaking to each other

I completely agree. I work with two guys with Scottish heritage. Absolutely no accent (other than Aussie) when they are speaking with others, but when they are speaking just to each other their dialect changes and a Scottish accent creeps in.

I agree. The left side one seems to be a box-like structure. Technical equipment for the interview? Rubbish?

I can't see what you mean, but how amazing would it be if something was up the tree!!

Tim Day seemed surprisingly bullish and confident about solving this case, as he did in his previous presser. I have never seen a police spokesman be so confident.

Yes I think since Tim Day has taken over there appears to be more of an air of confidence, and to some extent, arrogance, that the case will be solved. He definitely appears to be a go-getter. All power to him.

When info is reported through the Crimestoppers website, there is an option to report anonymously.

I think the police would have difficulty tracking the anonymous reporter down, and may have to resort to technical ways of tracing where the message came from ... if it was very important info and was worth going to that great effort.

I have to admit I have a slight crush on him. I think it's his "air of confidence and arrogance".

I did cringe when Borce said 'somfink' in the very first interview.

Clearly two members of the public responsible for the evidence though.

It is understood the witness saw the car in the same week Karen went missing. They then told another person who reported it to police.

[Day:] "It's of significant importance to us because the credibility is such that the caller and the witness could not have known the location of Karen's body."

Investigators were unable to identify the witness until this week.

Police would not say whether the witness could describe the man. But Det Insp Day said the importance of the sighting, 1.5km from where the body was found, could not be overstated.
“Over the last week we’ve spoken with a witness who’s seen a black Mercedes at this location on Childers Rd, facing the wrong way,” he said.
Some reports refer to car near intersection. If the quote from Tim Day has been accurately reported, I'd love to know which (wrong) way the parked car was facing. The car being actually in Childers Road is interesting, as there are 2 wide verges either side of that road. Plenty of room to pull over and stop for a break 'to admire the scenery.'

I'm wondering if the witness had to actually drive around the merc as it was on the wrong side of the road. I'd certainly remember having to do that. Enough time to check out the inconsiderate, entitled guy standing beside the Merc!

I wonder if he was 'relieving himself', and that was why it was so noticeable, particularly in that area of pricey homes, day-trippers, families, and such. Nature may have been calling, especially if he was very nervous, so he felt he had to pull over .. then and there.

Maybe pulling over on the wrong side of the road gave him more coverage, he thought.

Yes, maybe still just one anonymous Crimestoppers report though. That had to be traced till it eventually led back to one witness, who then could lead them to the other. :dunno:

I suggested that earlier South Aussie as it occurred to me too, but why draw attention to yourself like that, when it's the last thing you would be wanting to do?

He could have been absolutely busting ... no capacity to hold on any longer. Morning coffees, a bit of murder, cleanup, and disposal to accomplish. A loo stop may have been the last thing on his mind, till it was an overpowering thing to deal with.

Decsimpson said maybe he stopped to vomit. I think that is possible also given the circumstances. That would stand out to an observer.
