However, police would not reveal more details of the investigation, except to say the search was part of an ongoing investigation. It is reportedly an historic, cold case, murder victim.

BBM: I agree Hybane, with the mention of an historic cold case, it would rule out Karen.

The area sure fits with Sarah MacDiarmid......

Can't check historical changes in the roadside on Ipad ...... but surely between 1990 and 2016 that section of the Moorooduc hwy and Frankston/Dandenong Road has changed considerably .....

It looks like a very awkward place to bury a body, if it was similar back then. I think there would be much better places within a ten minute drive. I knew the area, but not the roads so much.

Perhaps searching for Sarah Macdiarmid.

It certainly does look like an awkward place to bury a whole body but this murder victim may have been dismembered and disposed of in various locations within the search area.

What I would like to know is what triggered this particular search? Why now? Was it due to a tip-off or has someone confessed but it hasn't hit MSM yet? I also noted the road being marked by one of the investigators. If this is in fact an historic cold case from 20 to 30 years ago, I doubt there would still be substantial evidence available on the road. Perhaps the investigator was simply placing a marker on the road to indicate that the search had reached that particular point. Hopefully there will be more about this in MSM tomorrow.

Three young women are known to have been murdered by this perp in 1993:

Sarah MacDiarmid was thought to be one of his victims but her body was never found:

I've always wondered if there were additional victims. I suppose we'll have to wait until the Homicide Squad make an official statement about the current search. That could be a while if they don't know who the victim is and wait until DNA testing is performed on any remains they may find.

I wish we'd hear more about the investigation into Karen's disappearance. It's been a long time since the last MSM article or a statement from police.

It was reported that the identity of the woman is known to police. This indicates to me that someone has fessed up to the murder or there has been a significant tip-off. Obviously there will still have to be forensic tests carried out once this woman is found but for the police to already know who she is very intriguing.

Ah, I missed that. The perp I linked to above apparently vehemently rejected he had murdered Sarah and he was known to boast about his crimes. Police did reinterview him about Sarah's disappearance in 2012 and again in 2015 AFAIK but no dice.

Another POI named Jodie Jones, now deceased, who was a known heroin addict and killed a man by jumping on his chest from a wall while wearing stiletto-heeled shoes.

If the remains are Sarah's the only other POI was this man AFAIK:

I wonder if there'll be an MSM article quoting Charlie Bezzina during the next couple of days?

So the search I mentioned above has ended in finding human remains believed to be that of another missing person. Coincidentally another Karen. A 49 yo man is in custody.

Sadly, the person's remains that were found belonged to the first victim on your list, Puggle.
