I believe Love Coco at the time of the sale of the t-shirt, around 2003 onwards, it would have been sold through the Chain Reaction Bicycle shops, so they would have catered both to children and adults.

I guess that's why the papers have given her age as from 13yo to 25yo. She was also quite petite, being somewhere between 150-165cm tall (4 foot 11" to 5 foot 5" tall). So either she was a petite adult, or a young teen.

Yes, she does look similar, though there is no indication of how she would have gotten to Australia from Germany. And there is no indication that the Jane Doe had braces (though that's not always conclusive).

The trick is to right-click the link in DoeNetwork and open it in a new window or browser tab. You can then copy the URL from there.

It does mention that they had a tip that the UID may have been a backpacker from Germany. The missing girl was last seen at a railway station. Maybe she was planning on running away. How she would have gotten to Australia is anybodys guess!! She could have easily removed the braces.

I don't think the Chain Reaction Bicycle Store is the same ... even though somewhere mentioned it, I think it is a mistaken association, IMO.

I believe that we are talking about a clothing line for girls sold in affordable department-like stores. The clothing of "Chain Reaction for Girls", includes girls party dresses - which I can't imagine would be sold at a Bike store!

There is an adult Chain Reaction brand, but it a) has a different style tag b) does not say "for girls".

I think it is difficult to know if the shirt really did belong to the UID. I know it was found in the same area but not with the body AFAIK. I do wish we knew if there was anything to definitively link the shirt with the UID.

  • #31
I believe what they found was skeletal remains, not a "body" per se. And with animals quite likely moving things around, it would have been easy for her t-shirt to have been moved nearby (or at least that's my assumption).

I wonder if they did DNA testing on the shirt, to prove whether she had been wearing it? The media reports and police seem to be focusing their search largely on the t-shirt, seeing it as a critical piece of evidence. So in light of that, I'm inclined to think that they do believe it belonged to "Angel". They also found several other locations nearby (an ear ring, an anklet sock and a shoelace).

Help Find My Family: I Died in Belanglo Forest, Australia
I'm trying to grow this group with as many English speaking missing person groups before sharing with non-English speaking groups. I've converted the text about Angel into between 20-30 different languages, ready to target different countries. Any thoughts on what countries people think she might have come from. I've noted on one group someone suggested she might be Nordic. The police had a possible tip she might be German. Any other thoughts are very welcome and appreciated..

Here are the location of the Chain Reaction Stores where the t-shirt found near Angel could have been purchased new from 2003 onwards. The Vineyard & Mt. Druitt stores were nearest to Belanglo State Forest. Do you know anyone you've lost touch with that had a shirt like this? Did that person have a strong overseas accent? Did you work at Chain Reaction and remember selling a size 10 t-shirt with Angelic on it? Ring Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or contact Admin with what you know.

https://www.facebook.com/#!/HelpFindMyFamilyIDiedInBelangloForestAustralia

Admin for the page has translated the text and you can find it under 'Notes' at the top of the page. Anyone here who has networks in any of the European countries and is on FB, please consider sharing. :tyou:

I believe that this woman may be Angelique DUMETZ. The problem is that Angelique DUMETZ's body has supposedly been recovered in France. I've been unable to clarify whether Angelique's body was identified by visual recognition of a family member, or via DNA identification. But the picture of them both is uncanny in their resemblance. I've been using Google Translate to try to decipher some of the French articles. Anyone on Websleuths read and write fluent French? I've attached the link to the picture.

I'm wondering whether someone made a mistake and the body they found was not her. Or could it have been a cover up. Where to go from here? I rang Australian Crimestoppers, they don't seem too interested in it ... the woman I spoke to wasn't aware of the search for Angel. Angelique I believe is French for the word "Angel". Two uncanny coincidences or a cover up or ???

http://easyhiker.co.uk/in-memory-of-angelique-dumetz/

The day we chose to hike in Compiegne was perfectly sunny and hot as any summer day considering Autumn has already arrived.

We were jauntily reaching the end of the first half of the trail when we saw, alongside the trail, this “tomb” or what we took as one. It was actually just a marble tombstone leaning against a rectangular slab of quarry stone.

On it, we read that it was marking the spot where the body of brutally murdered Angelique Dumetz was found in October of 1996.

It was a sad interlude in our otherwise pleasant hike.

Angelique was just a teenager coming back from a girl friend’s birthday party when she was abducted and violated. Her killer or killers have never been identified and investigation to her murder has been terminated earlier this year.

However, in May this same year, a Portuguese man was identified through DNA as the possible rapist/killer of Angelique. His DNA was collected during an investigation of domestic violence he committed on his wife. But he committed suicide in March 2011, bringing with him the secret of his violent crime.

Could this be Karina Anna Surmacz? Missing from Warsaw since 2002. She was 7 at the time. Her mother was murdered but Karina and some of her belongings were nowhere to be found. It was attributed to Organised crime.

The age progression photos have similar nose and face shape.

Chain reaction was a clothing store, I shopped there for my children.

Did anyone else catch the new channel 10 program 'Wanted' tonight with a segment about this doe? One of the theories tossed up was that her partner/husband killed her and dumped the body. They had a 'reconstruction' of the 'angelic' shirt too.

I will try to find a clip link.

If you could find a link that would be great.
So, she is still UID... :(
Did they give any further information regarding what the Police think - where she might be from?
So sad - someone must know something about her.

You can watch the full episode here - http://ten.com.au/watch-tv-episodes-online-wanted-video.htm

The doe segment is about halfway through.

They didn't say (unless I missed it) where the doe could possibly be from. They made mention of her broad neck/jaw and said it would have been an identifying feature if you knew her.

I watched it last night too. There is a UID in Arizona that was found with a chain reaction top in the 80's & i only asked the question there on that thread the other day if anyone knew if it was the same brand as Angel had on a couple of weeks ago because i thought i had read it here it was an australian brand.

Thanks so much for the link - I watched the program - that Belangalo Forest is a creepy spot.

That girl looks familiar to me... I'm a bit startled about that... I cannot place her... everytime I see the photo I get a snap of her face - like she was in retail or sales or something like that - someone you don't know but have had dealings with....
I don't think she is one nationality, but I'm thinking she is Greek Polish.

I took a snap shot of the T-shirt. The show said it was an exact replica. I think it even has some dirt on it to make it look more authentic to Angels t-shirt.

It is very creepy - that 'Please be careful' sign gives me chills each time I see it.
