Kiesha murder case back in court
Police say Kiesha Weippeart, who has sometimes been referred to as Kiesha Abrahams, was killed in her Mt Druitt home in July last year.
Her remains were found in a shallow grave in bushland at nearby Shalvey nine months later.
Kristy Abrahams and the child's stepfather, Robert Smith, are on trial for her murder.
The case was mentioned in Penrith Local Court this morning but then adjourned until August.

Angry scenes have erupted outside a western Sydney court where a mother and stepfather charged with murdering Kiesha Abrahams had been expected to appear.
Kristi Anne Abrahams, 27, and Robert Smith, 32, are charged with the murder of six-year-old Kiesha, who was reported missing from her home at Mount Druitt in western Sydney in August last year.
Neither Abrahams nor Smith appeared in Penrith Local Court today. Their lawyers said they were not required.

Kiesha Weippeart's family wait for closure

THE grieving family of Kiesha Weippeart had to wait almost three months to bury their little girl because the expert needed to finalise the autopsy was on holidays.

Kiesha's remains are still in cold storage at Glebe Morgue, more than 11 weeks after they were found and sent there, because the forensic investigation is incomplete. The six-year-old's family yesterday said they were desperately waiting to say goodbye and begged for the forensic investigation to be wrapped up so they could finally bury her.

"I just keep getting told: 'A few more weeks, a few more weeks' but I'm not sure how much longer we can wait," grandmum Liz Weippeart said.

The delay has occurred because the pathologist who specialises in bone examination is on annual leave.

The NSW Coroner's Court did not deny this yesterday, adding the remains would be released once the examination and analysis was completed.

"The pathologist will resume this process next week," a spokesperson said.

Search for woman after Kiesha shrine fire
POLICE are searching for a woman after a fire broke out at the unofficial memorial to Sydney schoolgirl Kiesha Abrahams.
Police were called to the impromptu shrine outside Kiesha's former home at Woodstock Ave, Mount Druitt, in western Sydney, about 10pm (AEST) yesterday after reports of a fire.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, which damaged some ornaments.

Kiesha Weippeart shrine destroyed in fire

July 7, 2011 - A SHRINE in memory of murdered girl Kiesha Weippeart was burnt to the ground yesterday.

The memorial site, set up outside her former home in Mt Druitt, was destroyed in the early hours.

Locals spent the morning salvaging what was left of the shrine, but said little remained of the tribute to the six-year-old girl.

Police believe the shrine in Woodstock Ave was torched sometime after midnight on Tuesday, and flared in the strong winds.

Local resident Alison Anderson said it was heartbreaking that the shrine had been destroyed.

"The whole community's hearts have been shattered once again by some low-life," Ms Anderson said.

She said there were plans to relocate the shrine on Saturday to where Kiesha's remains were found at Shalvey.

A woman was spotted leaving the scene just after it broke out, police said.

She is described as of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall, of medium build with blonde hair.

The family of six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart, pictured, have been told they will be unable to bury her next to her six-week-old brother, Aiden, who died of sudden infant death syndrome.

They planned side-by-side graves, but Liz Weippeart, Kiesha's grandmother, was told infants and children were buried in different areas with different size plots at Pinegrove Memorial Park.

''They are not too far away from each other; we have got them as close as we can,'' she said. ''Chris [Kiesha's father] said 'Just leave it, mum.'''

Wow, I (unfortunately) lost track of poor Kiesha's case, and I, out of the blue, decided to check up, and discovered that her remains were found and Kristi and Robert were FINALLY arrested (in April). THANK G-D. That was such a relief to find out, as late as I was to the news, lol. I think we all knew it was them. I hope to G-d they have the death penalty in AU and they administer it quickly to both of these pieces of trash. Hopefully, they will find evidence of Ayden's (murder) and charge them with his as well. What a horrible tragedy for Kiesha and her siblings.

Kiesha Weippeart murder trial continues

THE two accused in the murder trial of Mount Druitt girl Kiesha Weippeart have had their cases adjourned until August 19.

Kiesha&#8217;s mother Kristi Abrahams and her partner Robert Smith, Kiesha&#8217;s stepfather, will remain in custody until the next court appearance when police hope to have more evidence ready.

Solicitors for the two accused said they had only seen partial police briefs outlining the case against their clients but said those documents were &#8220;pretty large&#8221;.

Evidence handed to lawyers defending Ms Abrahams and Mr Smith earlier this month alleged Kiesha was put in a bath after she sustained a head injury during an assault some time between July 12 and July 14 last year.

Ms Abrahams and Mr Smith were charged with the murder of their daughter, 6, in the early hours of April22.

Just a few hours after their arrest in Shalvey, police found Kiesha&#8217;s remains scattered in nearby bushland.

Ms Abrahams and Mr Smith reported Kiesha missing from their home in Hebersham on August 1, last year.

They said they woke that morning to find the front door open and their daughter missing.

Kiesha Weippeart can be laid to rest as State Coroner releases bones for her burial.

He <Chris Weippeart> said there would be a private funeral and burial for family and close friends, and then a public memorial a few days later.

"The public helped keep Kiesha's memory alive, so they should be allowed to say goodbye to her, too," he said.

It is understood police have recovered almost the entire skeleton of Kiesha during painstaking searches of the bushland where her body was buried.
For months, the bones have been examined by a Sydney forensic pathologist for the smallest sign of injury.

Recently, a forensic pathologist was brought up from Melbourne to make an examination of the bones as a second opinion. Her cause of death has not been released.

I was happy to learn Kiesha will be buried near her brother.

Although Smith and Abrahams weren't informed of Kiesha's pending burial, if they are allowed visits with their family members, they'll know shortly.
