Australia Australia - Kyle Coleman, 17, Mount Isa, QLD, 22 Feb 2014

I'm glad at least that the story is coming together for his family. In all the very difficult 'mystery' cold cases I delve into, I always feel very bad for the person's loved ones. No closure, so many questions..

Hoping they find Kyle.

Do inquests usually happen so quickly in an Australian missing persons case? I think I have only seen them happen years after the person goes missing. Does this mean they have a lot of evidence that Kyle is deceased?

Some time ago, I contacted the relevant Coroner's office to see when an inquest would be happening in Gary Tweddle's case ... it was going to take about 1½ years after Gary was found deceased (toward the latter part of this year, they said) IF the Coroner thought an inquest was required. The Coroner's office was still waiting for the police report to the Coroner and a police brief of evidence to be lodged. It does seem that 1½ years, give or take, is the norm here.

The Coroner may be satisfied with whatever the police report to the Coroner says, and not order an inquest at all.

The very fact that police are preparing a report for the Coroner says a lot ... they must feel they have enough evidence to wrap up their investigation now/soon.

The article says Kyle was left alone at Undilla Station...NOT by his own choice...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....Wonder WHAT would make anyone leave a pal in the open desert. Alone. More questions than answers....

A drunken dispute …?
Stumbling on something/someone they should not have stumbled on ...?
Encountering a dangerous person(s) who perhaps was 'hiding out from authorities' and wreaked havoc and fear ...?
Planned self harm/harm … ?
A stupid accident with their firearms, and the pal didn’t want to shoulder the responsibility …?

All absolute speculation on my part – and my items 2 & 3 would surely lead to further intensive investigation and not a report to the Coroner - there are so many things that could have happened. As you say, more questions than answers.

Either way, it appears that whatever it was, it was too much for the conscience of the pal – or he was in mortal fear of repercussions. It is sounding like a double-tragedy for two families.

I wonder whether anyone else was involved in the statement re Kyle being seen at the Skewes St address? If Kyle was never there after the trip, then obviously there was a lie involved - but I can't recall if it was said how many people were there at the time.

Just thinking, maybe there's some other people at that address who might be aware of what really happened. Why else would they want to lie. So even the friend is dead, maybe somebody knows something..

This statement suggests that it was just the friend who saw Kyle at the Skewes St address ...

“We have simply got the person who first reported him missing (his 21-year-old friend) that he (Mr Coleman) came back (to Mount Isa), and he (the 21-year-old friend) is now deceased,” Insp Kidd said.

But there are certainly plenty of continued calls for others who may know information to please come forward. I guess that the 3rd friend who always hung out with Kyle and James, and James' girlfriend/partner, must not know anything.

Kyle's family have thanked the Undilla Station owners, the Miller family, for helping to uncover the evidence on their property.

Looking at the Please help find Kyle Coleman page again this morning, I notice that they are also thanking someone for the use of their chopper in the search, as well as someone who has been helping the Miller family (Undilla Station) to search.

People are trying so hard to find Kyle. May they have success soon. :please:

Does anyone have a theory on this case? SO strange...The only witness committed suicide? His best friend? What?!

Hi SanJuanMom

I kind of don't want to speculate on thread as I don't want to upset his family (who may be reading). I've read on their FB page that it's very distressing for them to read about people's theories, so I'm staying quiet.

Thank you Isisrising. This case bothers me greatly...but there are SO few details to work with. I have followed it from the beginning...not one new piece of info has ever emerged! UGH!

What a heartbreaking journey this has been for the family.
It seems to me there is just a few pieces more of information that they need to get this case solved for all involved.
I sincerely hope that who ever is holding back - comes forward with that little bit more.
Kyle deserves it, his family deserve it.

I still wonder if Kyle's friend did leave a note explaining things, or a message and it just hasn't been found yet.

I hope there are answers very soon for his family.
Keeping them in my thoughts.

A FATHER has uncovered charred possessions on an isolated property near Mount Isa where he believes his son, who disappeared in mysterious circumstances six months ago, was gunned down.

Kyle Coleman, 17, had been on a hunting trip with his mate James Coleman, 21, and his father Rob believes he never returned.

James reported Kyle missing, then took his own life shortly after.

Mr Coleman said a shotgun, which he believes belonged to James and was seized by police, contained blood spatter which matched his own DNA and that taken from his son’s personal possessions.

He now believes this gun was used to shoot his son at point blank range.

More from that article:

He found what he says are the remnants of Kyle’s swag and doona, parts of his watch and buckles from his backpack on burnt ground in a remote corner of Undilla.

He has also found a .303 cartridge and spent shotgun cartridges.

Mr Coleman said Kyle (right) did not own a firearm, but believed James owned a .303 and a shotgun.

James, who had been hunting with Kyle, took his own life on April 26, one day after he was taken to Undilla by police trying to retrace the movements of the *missing teenager.

bbm.

Evidently he couldn't live with what happened out there. I'm shocked at Kyle's stuff being burnt - that shows somebody trying hard to destroy any evidence.

I guess I'd wanted to believe it was some terrible accident, but that makes me wonder.......

And if it was an accident, why wouldn't James have immediately sought help from the folks at the station. Burning the evidence doesn't bode well to me......
