It sounds to me as if short cuts may have been taken when submitting evidentiary documents of property ownership and property value.

"Here are the documents for bail, including the valuation that we have been waiting for."
"Where is the land deed (title) proving that the mortgage holder (Sue/Peter) owns the land, and therefore has the right to submit this for bail?"
"Oh, we don't have that. Have never had that. Must be still with the bank." (I believe the bank holds the land deed/title until the mortgage has been paid off. At least, in SA they do. And some people never ask for it once their mortgage is released, as a significant fee is required to obtain it from the bank.)
"Well, we will need that as well."
"But the mortgage departments are closed on the weekends."
"Sorry"
I am suspicious that some clever tax minimising smugness is biting them in the bum right now.

with the most important statement of all never even presented..... chris first police statement ..never tracked down!!
that a journo got his hands on without much effort.

be nice to see some of these useless ball droppers have to be a part of the trial and explain to the nation why they kept their jobs.

Oh yes, I would like to see Mr Cowdery called to the stand and bluster his way through his answers.

Former NSW director of public prosecutions Nicholas Cowdery QC has resigned as the chair of the White Ribbon board after ABC documentary Exposed aired comments he made about convicted baby killer Keli Lane's sex life.
"She seemed to be a bit of a risk to the virile young male portion of the community," Mr Cowdery said.
Nicholas Cowdery resigns as White Ribbon chair after Keli Lane comments

Former NSW DPP Nicholas Cowdery is slammed for suggesting Lyn Dawson could still be alive despite there being no trace of her for 36 years.
Lyn’s cousin Allyson Jennings said she was “yelling at the TV” after Mr Cowdery’s comments.
“In my opinion it’s pretty disgusting,’’ she told The Australian. “Police know through experience if their bank accounts are not touched, they’re not registered anywhere, they don’t have a passport, nothing, they’re dead.
“He’s just basically dismissed that. I just found that so infuriating.”

Lyn’s brother Greg Simms added that he was “not impressed” with Mr Cowdery.

“Congratulations @AustralianStory on getting the former DPP to even speak regarding the Lyn Dawson matter,” tweeted Mark Leveson. “Just a pity his mouth was moving but no logical words were emerging ..... "

However if the property was purchased pre 1994 a physical document may exist .....

Pre-1994, a paper title deed existed for every property in Queensland. Since 1994 the Queensland Land Titles Register has been electronic and paperless, and certificates of title have not been issued automatically by the Queensland Titles Office.

However, the government still allows property owners to have a certificate of title if they want one. Not many people do this, as the computerised system has been a success, and has simplified transactions where there is no certificate of title.

Where a certificate of title still exists, the old system still applies and certificate of title must be physically produced in order for property transactions to be registered. Where a certificate of title exists, sale contracts require the seller to hand it over to the buyer at settlement.

Maybe there has been a mad dash around the Mt Coolum House to find among paperwork of the title deeds since it is pre-1994, if that is what is missing.

There are still flights available tomorrow Sydney to Maroochydore in the afternoon.

I wonder how late the DPP are working on Christmas Eve ... presumably someone in the department is working, despite the courts being closed until later in January.

Our SA govt departments stopped work on Friday, not coming in on Christmas Eve.
I was kinda hoping that would be the case in NSW and Qld.

It really depends on the agreements the departments have made with their employees. I don't think they would have said come back Monday if the DPP was not available.

I agree ... it is very likely that someone within the DPP has said they will be there/meet them there. Unfortunately.

It might not even be Chris/Sue Dawson's property that there is an issue with a missing document/deed.
It could be Mr Peter Dawson's property.

The info we have is not specific, unless I have missed something?
I thought it was just a missing document, problem with a deed, within the bail documents.

It is referred to as "land deed", which really confuses me because that's not what it is normally called in NSW (certificate of title), and now I know they don't even use paper in QLD! So now I have no idea.

I am still hopeful that on re-submitting the documents on Christmas eve, there will be another problem found with them... :D

My two current fav inmates, Mr Dawson and Ms Lane, will then be having xmas as neighbours! Lol

Not sure if this had been posted. I still find Peter Dawson's concerns over his staff reading hate mail and the bad language they were confronted with.

He has his Law Firm in Mount Druitt one of Australia's largest welfare cities. He deals with these people on a daily basis and these people are not in the least concerned what comes out of their mouths, whether in his offices, on the streets or in the courtroom.

A curt email declaring Lyn Dawson simply walked out on her husband and children has angered her family.

Peter Dawson, the older brother of Lyn’s husband and suspected killer Chris Dawson, wrote in the email that there was nothing “at all” interesting in Lyn’s “decision” to leave.

It was sent to aspiring author Rebecca Hazel after she sought an interview for a book she is writing on Lyn’s 1982 disappearance from Bayview, on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Two coroners found, in 2001 and 2003, that Lyn was murdered by her husband Chris but he was not charged, with the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions finding there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

“There is no story or book in Lynette Dawson’s decision to leave her husband and children. That is a decision made freely and consciously by many women, including Lynette,” the email states.

“Your interest in the matter can only be generated by the periodic media regurgitation of unsubstantiated and unsustainable allegations against Chris Dawson.

“Those allegations were made in the course of the incompetent, expensive and totally unnecessary forensic investigation of Lynette’s decision and have already caused great distress to Lynette’s daughters and to the entire Dawson family.

“We therefore have no interest whatsoever in assisting you to perpetuate the myth that there is anything interesting at all about Lynette’s decision.”

I think there may be a few things that an entire jury won't like. One of them being that Chris did not attend either of Lyn's inquests. Did not allow a coroner to test his 'witness statement'. Why not?

The first coroner, in 2001, took one look at the police brief and referred it to the DPP, recommending charges be laid against a "known person". Then-NSW DPP Nicholas Cowdery declined to prosecute on the grounds that witness statements hadn't been tested by the coroner.
The second coroner, in 2003, made the same recommendation. Mr Cowdery again chose not to prosecute.
Former DPP defends decision not to prosecute Lyn Dawson's husband

The entire process from day one - from the police investigation to the inquests to the DDP - has all been a sham IMO and I'm sure the prosecution will convey that to the jury as much as they are allowed to at Chris Dawson's trial.

I heard NSW Deputy State Coroner Hugh Dillon interviewed recently by Richard Fidler on ABC radio. Dillon has acted in that role since 2008, so he doesn't go back quite as far as Lyn Dawson's inquests of 2001 and 2003.

I'm sure I remember Dillon making it quite clear that a coroner has the power to enforce people to attend inquests and also to enforce them to take the witness box. What I'm not sure of is whether those powers were granted to a coroner after 2003?

What I fail to understand is, if the coroners of 2001 and 2003 did have the power to make Chris, Paul & Marilyn Dawson attend the inquires, why they didn't exercise those powers.

The police completely botched the case. No argument there, and that Chris Dawson's statement conveniently disappeared from the file, along with it seems a whole lot of other stuff, is a disgrace worthy of investigation. But the unearthing of a copy of Chris Dawson's statement years later bordered on pure fluke.

The only reason a copy still existed was because the Ombudsman's department had kept a copy of a letter sent to them years and years earlier by Sue Srath - that included a copy of the statement - and the only reason it was retrieved is because Hedley got a sniff of it and doggedly had Sue pursue it with the Ombudsman's office.

wouldn't be a stretch though preparing for TWO inquests to check all governing bodies for documents like say said ombudsman's office??
surely an investigation would have the resources to look at all such places???
