There had been no evidence produced in the 2003 inquest. The witness from the child care centre had opened the statement so there is confirmation that a statement existed but she had no recollection if there was any items that were purchased after 8 January. She felt quite embarrassed that she had opened it. I think someone would remember if there had been items on the statement after 8 January.

So as to the evidence so far for a statement it is non-existent in its use after Lynette's disappearance. There is mention of it in Helena Simm's diaries but I would expect this is hearsay from Chris.
Bolded by me.

I don't think it's a stretch, that there is a reason why Lynn's bankcard statements went to her work place address, considering the plethora of corroborating claims that Dawson was meaner than mean and particularly incensed about Lynn earning her own money ( and not having to beg him and produce favours for it, like Joanne had to ) .. and deeply insulted by Lynn having her own bankcard, over which he had no say, nor control nor oversight, nor input..

The bank must have been instructed by Lynn to send statements about her own account to her work address, thereby in one swoop cutting Dawson completely out of all interference in her business. I don't think the sending of the statements NOT to her home was an accident. Maybe even the bank suggested it, after some discussion with Lynn.

It would be no skin off the banks nose, no problems, and Lynn would have avoided what it is reasonable to assume would be a long running nagging , threatening, abusive volley about the Bankcard , a daily shaft, so she deprives him of the evidence of it's availability to her. She doesn't have to deal with interrogations about what she bought with it, for whom, why, when, where, should she have, and so on.

All of this must have been tedious in the extreme for Lynn, and I think, perhaps a forewarning of just how ruthless and savage he could be, although for Dawson it would have been terrific, some hook to hang his nasty hat on.

Today's Update from The Australian :

Up to 7 witnesses will be called to give evidence at Chris Dawson's murder trial on Friday, including a man who will be asked about his knowledge of a 'hit man' allegation.

The paywall doesn't allow me any more than that.

Taking a wild guess it might be Ray Lee they are alluding to, the guy Silkman claimed he told Chris Dawson had just asked him about getting rid of his wife.

I can read it and so far what you've posted is all that's there.
It says it's live updated.
There is a photo of Chris Dawson arriving.

Looking forward to this weeks podcast.

The trial is coming to the end of week 7 and though a day or 2 was lost due to COVID, theoretically there is only a week or so to go. That said, the judge did pre-warn he would likely reserve his findings for some time after. So I guess after next week things will just go quiet and we will all play the waiting game - including Chris Dawson.

I can see The Australian updated trial page but I don't think it's "Live" to me.
No updates so far.
Maybe someone else can see ?

The chances of the hit man himself strolling on into the witness box is very remote, but this long line of people Dawson mentioned such a hideous proposition to only underlines his determination, plus his circle of acquaintances , who he felt comfortable approaching with this casual offer in mind.

It doesn't seem to be something anyone reeled back from in horror, this is the part that is a bit staggering.. It's as if murder was the only answer to Dawson's problem, no other solution being seen as possible. Or even appealing. Like , as if a 'hit man' was the regular go-to person, normal, every day thing, nothing to see here...

On that end of season football flight where Silkman claims Chris Dawson asked him about getting a hitman to get rid of Lyn, Ray Lee was onboard and Silkman claims he went over and told Lee straight afterwards. There isn't any inference Lee was a hitman. However, if Lee speaks at the trial and can corroborate Silkman's story, it gives Silkman's allegation much more credibility.

I'm sure I have read that Lee says he wants to appear but I think there have been issues because he is interstate or overseas. Plus, you can bet the defence would be doing their best to block him if they think he can provide weight to Silkman's allegation.

Not much of a live update page, it's basically just a new headline and no details.

It does make one wonder if Dawson, having approached these people , Silkman , Lee, etc, men who, for want of a better description, were not exactly on their uppers, desperate for an injection of a small sum, but that Dawson possibly found someone who was indeed desperate enough. Not hard to find in Sydney, among rugby folks, in those days, and in these. Not saying they would be on every corner, but they were not hard to find , if the price was right.

Interesting that no one is holding back. No one seems to be the slightest bit embarrassed about being hauled into this problem of Dawson's. And to keep quiet about it for so many years!...

I'm guessing Chris Dawson might be a bit more anxious knowing the judge just heard that.

“In my perception, there are no bright lights shining in this area." The judge overseeing Chris Dawson's murder trial has asked for assistance in dealing with the case's "dark and dingy" evidence.

The judge overseeing Christopher Michael Dawson's murder trial has questioned how he should use a multitude of evidence in the case which implied a violent and abusive marriage.

On Friday, Justice Ian Harrison mentioned that testimony and statements in the case claimed Lynette Dawson had been seen with bruises or black eyes, but did not actually point to who caused those injuries.

“In my perception, there are no bright lights shining in this area. It’s all a bit dark and dingy and I might need some particular help," he said.

Mr Lee, who was born in 1955, said on Friday that he did not remember the purported discussion, despite Silkman claiming he was seated next to him at the time, but said he discussed the topic with his friend later while in his 20s.

Dawson's solicitor Greg Walsh suggested a conversation in which someone asks about getting rid of their wife would be something one would never forget.

“Yeah, you would think so," Mr Lee replied.

Hmmm I'm not exactly filled with confidence.
I started to get this feeling a couple of weeks ago

  • #739
Did it take a whole day in court to find out that Mr Lee could not remember the conversation on the plane????????
