Actually listening again seems more interesting than the first time.

So far I've listened to Bonus Coversations 20 and The Inquest Part 1.

They're here. Unlike some other sites you don't need to join. The Lady Vanishes on acast
Thanks Tootsie, I've got 'em stored on my little iPod - starting at Episode 25, The Inquest Part 6. Yeah, there's always something you missed when you replay them isn't there, something fascinating.

I have all of them stored too. I didn't want to risk relying on them to stay on the web site so I make sure I save each episode as it goes up.

No mention of the magazine on Episode 25, the inquest Part 6. All clear on the semaphore board :)

Just re the previous link I posted about Steiner/Waldorf schools, when it is says "page can't be found" it seems if you pick up another snapshot date in the Wayback machine they become accessible. Do you think Marion could have done further training to be a Steiner teacher and started that up in a new name, not using her old registration?

Nothing in ep 24 either.

I know I either heard it, or read about it. I assumed someone would post about it here, otherwise I would have taken note of it.
I can't have heard it on the radio or some tv thing. It def said the LA library lead had been checked out and didn't lead to anything.

All clear on the semaphore board

The more I read about the Brethren, the less I'm thinking Marion got mixed up with it. So, what on earth was that old magazine in the LA library that someone found that is "a huge clue", hey!!! What in the world is it ....... probably nothing to do with religion, cults, sects, but what the heck was it? I wish someone would fill us in, I mean, it's in a library for all to see, h'mm? Anyone? How is it a huge clue ...... I'm back on the magazine search.
I can only find the search by Tootsie who was also trying to work out what the LA article was about back in 2020. After hours and hours of people searching I think the LV producers should reveal what it was.

I am still looking at the group Marion stayed with for a weekend away in 1995. The Headquarters is in Ohio. Out of interest there is a branch in Los Angeles.

Going back to the Clark Hunter message, if it was legit about "Natalia is alive but you never see her again" - could Marion have deliberately chosen a flamboyant first name so if anyone's looking for her they'll search for Florabella and Marion, but would they search for Natalia? She could tell people "I go by my second name", if she ever had to, and they'd think "fair enough". Clark Hunter could simply have been a so-called "psychic" just saying what they thought, then again maybe fair dinkum, but the "Natalia" detail makes it that little bit more fascinating. Anyway, hope they can trace that up in the current investigation.

I have never heard of a psychic acting in that way and deleting their FB profile shortly after sending a message. In my opinion Clark Hunter was either a troll causing trouble or someone with genuine information. FB should be able to track the ISP address the account came from if the police look at that aspect.

No worries Tootsie. I've been listening to the podcasts while I do stuff during lockdown and can't find any reference to the LA magazine .... so I must continue to obsess about it until someone puts me out of my misery and fills me in on it ;)
If anyone else is still obsessing it's mentioned in BONUS: Conversations 17 dated 21 December 2019 starting at 20:58, and here's Bryan speaking:
"A couple of weeks ago I got a message through the anonymous tips site (www.theladyvanishes.org where you can leave tips, file uploads, totally anonymously) from a listener in Los Angeles . Now they discovered something in the public library there, which I won't reveal here because we're running this clue down, but it's a - it's a - it's an extraordinary clue and the last place you would think to look and find something like this. I mean, it's - it's purely because someone there has been listening to the podcast, is intrigued by the story and has decided to do a bit of ferreting around in their own backyard and they've come up with something that frankly we would never have come across. I doubt that this information - this particular publication exists anywhere in Australia. And again we're always looking for things that predate computers and the internet because Marion went missing in 1997, just before everything went online ....... so, it really is that - that wide reach of the podcast, that unique format of the podcast, where people can just plug it in, listen, and think 'oh okay, I might go and have a look at that when I'm next in the library', and come across something remarkable."

Good point SaintGertrude, probably not a psychic.

Implies a magazine from before Marion went missing IMO

Has anyone here ever read the Frank Ahern book "How to Disappear" ? For those of you who who ascribe to the idea that Marion planned to go missing, it makes for an interesting read. You can buy it on line. Not a big read but potentially answers some of the questions about how and why certain things may have been done.

The main question I have is, if Marion is still alive, HOW might she gone about obtaining another identity. Any ideas?
Also, quite likely Marion would have had more than one Super Funds. From NSW Education Department and TSS. In case I missed that, does anyone know if this was checked? Being as Marion was only at TSS a relatively short time, the balance relating to that job would have been relatively small.

There was a bit of a loop hole that a lot of people exploited by applying for birth certificates of dead children and people, the grave stones give you a person name and birth date to apply for a birth certificate and from there they apply for a passport. There are plenty of stories especially in the USA of people changing identities this way.

Also if you know the right people you can get a fake passport and new identify.

The police say they ran down the Super Funds and it hasn't been touched, I think the podcast has a bit about this. But I come back to the fact the police cant find Marion's Queensland drivers license record so I do wonder how good they are at searching, or how well records are kept because I don't think she would have even been able to get insurance without quoting her drivers license, and she would have been able to hire a car in the UK without one.

It would be very odd for a person to go to those lengths as any adult can start a new life away from family and friends.
It still makes me wonder in all of this about a certain school and if Marion knew too much about some of the alleged goings on. In this I mean that she may have known of something not having any involvement herself. Depending on the circumstances she could land into a spot of trouble if she is ever found as we are hearing with recent news in Australia concerning a different case. On top of this if she did possibly have a fake passport as KiwiNZ has thought perhaps possible then that would be a serious matter if ever found depending on the circumstances.

Does someone need a full unrestricted licence if they are going to stay in the UK for a year and use hire cars.

[QUOTE On top of this if she did possibly have a fake passport as KiwiNZ has thought perhaps possible then that would be a serious matter if ever found depending on the circumstances.[/QUOTE]

I am not sure I actually think this is the case, that she assumed yet another identity, I was just responding to Curiosity cats question - The main question I have is, if Marion is still alive, HOW might she gone about obtaining another identity. Any ideas?

Graves stone names is not an uncommon way for someone to obtain a new identity, neither is fake passports.
