Thanks so much for the recap Peralta, have been meetings all morning and haven’t been able to listen.
Interesting about not having a car… wonder how he and Marion got around to the different banks, and Griffith, when they were back in Australia (if they were in fact together then).
I think you mean Grafton.
yes! You are correct! Being a Victorian, these places are basically interchangeable in my mind :p

DNA ancestry is a great finder of true family members! I think he is Hungarian. Is Maria Van Coppenolle his Auntie? related to the very famous WW11 Military Police boss Van Coppenolle. They had something in Belgium Congo too.

At this point I don't think it's possible to trust a word he's said to Diane, to the police, on documents or anywhere else. Forensic genealogy would probably be one of the few ways to get an actual fact out of this guy!

was that his wife ?

they all roll out the walker when it comes to trial !!!!
Yes exactly how Ron Brierley acted. He’s pulled the poor sad old man and got out of jail early.

All I have to say is wow… to not question affairs to not ask wtf when police knocked on door and revealed everything. Makes me think 1 of 4 things. He has always been secretive and she learnt to not question a long time ago or she has known for years and years he was dodgy or she’s scared of him.. or she’s just not the sharpest tool in the shed.
In true style though the stories are quite amazing.. especially the woman from Sydney who was a dancer and wanted to go overseas to dance.. what the? Wife is aware of WW and RDH but does she know of the others.. does she know if the criminal history.. snd why would any wife not read the body of evidence handed over… if my world was about to crumble because the person I have been with for years is full of.. I would be reading it over and over.. wow that’s all I can say..

Regarding the new female named today who I will refer to as MC - I googled that name and there is a French woman of same name with initials MRJC born in France 1949 died 2016 - if this is her that could explain why she hasn’t been asked to attend inquest?

They've closed the court.

Mrs D will be back at 10am tomorrow to continue to give evidence.

Wow, so wife and kids hired a full on serious criminal lawyer

Yep.

As mentioned at the start of the hearing today, ' the disappearance and suspected death of Marion Barter'.

Has anyone looked into the Jewish links in this?
Chaim Fredrick David De Hedervary

Ilona's mother's maiden name is Novotny, an Ashkenazi Jewish name.

Perhaps there's some familial tracing via Yad VaShem's holocaust survivor resources?

Perhaps the Wouters family have links to WW2 smuggling (Allied or Nazi), especially with a furniture business specialising in sofas.

David is a very Jewish name ...I have researched the De Hedervary name and chaim etc as well as Van Copenolle Marias previous husband died in 1943 and he is not named as Ricks father , and understanding the revolting times i have no problem believing he was adopted and parents deceased. Maria Coppenolle had many siblings as many did in those days ....

When did it change to suspected death? I know it changed on coroners court but is it not weird to change halfway through an inquest?

So if he always had difficulty walking, and did not have a car or driver, then how did he get to JO's house all those times? That's a lot of dedicated walking for a man who can't walk properly. Just sayin.

She could be the one mentioned in the latest podcast who Ginette heard about through a friend of hers from church. This woman had been scammed by him but has since passed away along with her husband.

I think she's just really nervous, and it can't be great talking about your husband's infidelity. I think she's embarrassed as well, like just imagine if you didn't know and found this out decades later.
agree

Yes!!!! A Forensic Genealogy. Perfect.

About the change to "suspected death", I wouldn't read too much into it.

Firstly, the coroner only makes a finding at the very end, after hearing everything. They're not going to come to conclusions in the middle.

Secondly, a missing person MUST be 'suspected dead' in order to have an inquest. Inquests aren't to search for missing people but to determine the circumstances around unexpected death. Only missing people who are thought to be deceased get one.

The difference in language may just be due to it being a different employee from whoever posted the earlier ones. Or an employee with poor attention to detail. No biggy.

We already knew Marion was suspected dead. Half the battle for Sally was getting an inquest, because she had to prove her mum probably wasn't alive anymore. Police agreed as there was no activity on her Barclays/CBA account, superannuation, medicare, passport, license etc.
