D said she hasn't read brief of evidence, yet she has hired a criminal lawyer. mmmm

It means nothing. The lawyer is paid for by the coroners court and witnesses in her position would always be given a lawyer.

For those that can't watch, here's a recap on the remainder of the day...

After lunch, the court went public again for just minutes. Casselden immediately said there were many applications to be heard and resolved and that it was probably going to take the next few hours to do that. He thought it was best to postpone the rest of Dianne's testimony until 10 am tomorrow and close the court for the remainder of the day. In other words, we're not missing anything major.

What was unusual is that a new person, Paul Townsend was present. He didn't speak but it's suspected he's a legal aid lawyer for RB. It's unusual to change lawyers during a case but it happens. So who knows.

Interesting watching bits back from this morning. My take of DW/DdH is that she’s not too dissimilar from JO. Both women don’t seem to ask a lot of questions of RB, they seem content to just take what he says on face value. Even G (sorry forget her surname) didn’t challenge RB on many things even though in hindsight she says she questioned it in her mind (Eg. What was his true nationality).
In my opinion she's very evasive and comes across as dodgy. I think she's a good actor.

Yes odd. Hard to know yet if she is a naive victim or a tricky & oppositional associate!

She reminds me of a few women of her age that I know who have been stay-at-home housewives with children all their lives, who have seemed not to worry about how the money comes in as long as their bills are paid as their job is simply to look after the children, they don't enjoy sex so they are quite happy for their husbands to have flings and they actually enjoy the times the husband is away from home or overseas.

Sorry what does many applications mean?
Is that where they ask for it to be a closed court? Or can it be any topic?

I feel empathy for her meeting him so young. It's unfair and inappropriate. A 19 year old is no match for an experienced con man, especially one that's up to 20 years older! She would have had little time to gain life experience and develop herself without his influence and coercion.

But my empathy ends at some point because she really seems deceptive. Something is up, even if she is only covering for him. I don't like whatever she's up to. Just IMO. I could be wrong.

If it were me, I'd like to think that once I learned about it all, I would be so mad at my partner that it would break the spell and I would spill my guts about everything. Unless of course, I had something to hide about my own activity.

I remember that GGB said he was always putting her down, belittling and manipulating. I think it's highly likely RB forced Dianne to cooperate in some of his schemes, just so she could never rat him out as she would get in trouble too. Another form of blackmail.

But I don't for a second believe they were married for over 50 years and she had no idea what was going on!

I agree. I think she is being disingenuous and is protecting her husband. She isn’t answering questions properly.

David is a very Jewish name ...I have researched the De Hedervary name and chaim etc as well as Van Copenolle Marias previous husband died in 1943 and he is not named as Ricks father , and understanding the revolting times i have no problem believing he was adopted and parents deceased. Maria Coppenolle had many siblings as many did in those days ....

She said she called him Rick from the time she met him and wasn't surprised or fazed or lied about that IMO that was believable considering she also didn't bat an eyelid when he changed his name back to his birth name in 1976 before they married > It seemed obvious to me he had told her that from the beginning and his name was really Rick DH and that WW was his adopted name . So call me Rick ! So she did and still does .

When they went to visit and stay and work with his family ,they are cousins aunt and her husband.?

What did they call him ? Did they call him Rick because they know he is really Rick ... and they were the family business Worters named after the man Maria married and he was also adopted by his Aunt Worters in also given his name at the time adopted .

So if he is indeed a nephew of Maria then obviously his mother or father is a sibling of Maria ....

Was the name DeHedervary a name or a name connected to any of Marias siblings ... I haven't been able to find an obvious connection as yet so maybe someone else has more luck ......

Applications can mean a lot of things. It's basically asking the Coroner or court for something you need or want to happen.

We don't know what specific applications are being made here, as hearing the application request itself might reveal the very thing they are trying to not make public!

But, it seems like some of the applications have to do with suppressing information and closing the court at certain times. No idea what all of them are though. Mostly likely to do with evidence.

There is no public transport from Ballina to the places he visited. His wife said they had one family car. How did he get to airports, girlfriends, and Queensland?. He must have had a stolen car or car registered in another name. I think his wife is not elaborating on anything, playing naive and vague is so infuriating.

Interstate buses were common transport in the 90s. I caught the bus from Brisbane to Sydney in the 90s and it stopped at many places along the coast.

And I disagree.
She seems nervous to me, which is understandable, and scared, again understandable. These two are still married and she has to go home with RB. Even if she does know more than she’s saying, she could be very scared of him

Are there any archives of boat arrivals from when DW and RB came over here from the UK? Would be interested to check what name he was really using (maybe have been different to what he told D).

Wonder where DH would address letters to him overseas? You’d think an address would include “hospital” vs “correctional facility.”

NAA has passengers records from 1970. Why is no WW or Diane returning to AU in 1970?

I have seen his Arrivals card on a vessel arriving in Perth in 1969 but I was shown it by someone else and have forgotten who now. He used the name Willy Wonkers that's for sure.
