He told her he was in hospital for 2 years when he was actually (probably) in jail…this guy.

Thanks so much for the recap Peralta, have been meetings all morning and haven’t been able to listen.
Interesting about not having a car… wonder how he and Marion got around to the different banks, and Griffith, when they were back in Australia (if they were in fact together then).

I bet he used that "beaten up" thing more than once.

but RB current wife just said on the stand his birth name was dehavervary ? And wouters was his step dads last name? Is that what happened?
I doubt it. He probably needed to change his name b/c WW was a well known criminal by then.

I was beginning to think that maybe he couldn't drive. Then JO said he drove the hired car in the UK.

Maybe a reason for not driving other times was to not have a car so no license plates to be checked up on.

Keep in mind that on Day 1 of the latest tranche of the inquest, they closed to hear applications, and then opened a few hours later with Casseldon giving his summary of some of RB's statement - it's possible something similar could happen today?
exactly what I was saying here earlier. I think some people missed that very first video of this and moved down further to the second tranche

For your reference (Casselden it not Sally's lawyer):

Adam Casselden – representing the Coroner, puts the inquest together and presents it to the court
Bradley Smith from Addisons – representing Sally Leydon, family of missing person Marion Barter
Kim Burke – representing NSW Police Commissioner, Garry Sheehan and Graham Childs
Bridget Kennedy – representing Ric Blum
Sam Saadat – representing the de Hedervary's, Dianne (nee Walker) and children Maite Chusan and David Gordon.
I really feel for these adults children of his.
There can be no doubt now that they knew nothing of their fathers dealings and quite possibly the wife also had very little idea of the scheme of his fraudulent life.

What was Ilona's son's name?
There is a passenger card for Michael John Reid born 1969, signed by father Michael in 1972.

View digital copy

I thought Ilona's son had the initials CR.

If this child was born in 1969 in Belgium to Ilona, that was the year both RB and she came to Australia.

1970 Ilona married in Budapest Hungary to MJR (Reid)

1971 Ilona first child born (daughter ER)

I think you mean Grafton.

So is it safe to assume that Diane is correct about Marie being his aunt and who we thought were brothers are actually cousins?

Easy enough for him to lie to her, but she did meet them and lived with them for a bit so I can’t imagine them playing along.

So possibly deH is his birth name after all?

We don't know that she actually lived with his family. This could be a story.
Police may never be able to verify if they have all since passed away.
Maybe she was in jail too? Or they lived in a stolen home. Who knows.

I kind of expected him to dress a bit more suave and European. Still having the image of a successful businessman who travels etc. Not some regular degula aussie retiree who shows up at the RSL at 4pm for the $8 roast beef special.
Isnt it funny how we as a society hold these expectations of people who have lived a life of deceit to have a certain look.

The ones that get away with it for so long as usually the 'person next door', 'serving in our communities', the local employer ' etc etc.
It is our own imagination that conjures up how the villain should look but we are nearly always disappointed !

I feel DH would do anything her husband asked without question, I think she probably would assisted him without question

Let's face it. Their children went to a local High School so they would have walked there in the 90s. IMO he definitely would have had use of the car when he wanted it. He was just cunning and parked far away from his destination so nobody would see his Registration plates. That way he could also pretend he didn't have a car and get the women to drive him around.

I wouldn't necessarily believe anything that Diane says as she was either told lies by RB or he has coached her into what she should say.

For example, RB told her he had two cousins but they are stepbrothers. But why lie about that?

All this will be a mixture of truth and lies this week IMO.

She met his family and she claims she was under the impression he was adopted by Maria Copponolle and Worters as Marias nephew so HER 2 sons would be his cousins

It looks as if David, his son, has changed his surname and Maite has married so her surname has changed.
No they havent. They are using their middle names I believe.
They are both still very much, using their last name today

I wonder if there'll be an episode of The Lady Vanishes tonight.

In the NAA file, in the list of crimes, there was quite a few mentions of a furniture store. Can't think of it now, something like Guilles... Pty Ltd. Some bit's seemed to say he impersonated the store, stole to give to the store and stole from the store.

I'm already worn out, if someone else can remember...

I agree with you otherwise she would not be still with him. It looks as if she is going to play the ignorant role. Most women would have left him by now - at least last year - when the police asked him to make a statement. If her daughter has been following the podcast, you can't tell me that she didn't tell her mother about what she heard.
