He really doesn’t. I doubt his family cares, I’m not seeing him as having all that many friends/acquaintances. And honestly I can see him either dodging questions about it, blaming it on someone else (his lawyer) or coming up with some excuse. “The meds I were on effected my speech! That in combination with the sheer stress of being in court at my age… well it ruined my health at the time!”

It would be interesting to question the staff at the nursing home of how he conducts himself on a day to day basis.

A pretty normal response should have been "I was never in Europe with her" huh?
