Australia - Martin Place siege: 2 Hostages killed in Lindt Chocolate shop, Dec 2014 - #2

Interesting listening to a reporter sitting, waiting next to a sniper with clear view from the channel7 studio.
They both could see the gunman with iPad moving hostages around and becoming agitated. The reporter said the sniper was not at all talkative, he was concentrating of his job.

This journo said suddenly words "window 2 hostage down" and the sniper was gone. Within seconds all hell broke loose.

So proud of our police.

(So ashamed of our courts.)

Barrister Katrina Dawson, 38, died of a heart attack on the way to hospital after police stormed the cafe about 2am.

The cafe's manager, 34-year-old Tori Johnson, reportedly died of a gunshot wound after attempting to wrestle the sawn-off shotgun from the gunman's hands after he began to doze off.

Tori Johnson will forever be known as a hero who laid down his life to save his fellow captives. :rose:

While his family grieve for him, may they find some small comfort in knowing that he was a brave, brave man who stopped a massacre.

Catherine Burn: 6 injured, 3 women treated for gunshot wounds .. in a stable condition. Critical police investigation now underway, 24 hours a day. We have extremely experienced investigators working on this case.

Police Commander will be on scene at all times during the investigation through Xmas and into the New Year. We are here to provide comfort to the community. We are working with all sectors of the community, and have been throughout, to ensure harmony and safety within the community.

This is a beautiful country, go about your business, but if you have any piece of information, anything at all .. please let us know.

We are working with the Coroner to ensure that this investigation is done professionally and thoroughly. They are now interviewing everyone involved. Everyone is tired, everyone is emotionally drained. We have to ensure we move carefully to gain all information that is critical to the investigation.

The emergency plan was actioned at a critical point in time. Gunshots were heard and the plan was actioned.

It is difficult at the moment, we are dealing with people who are traumatised.

I am not going to talk about individual actions now, this will all come out in time. Every one of those victims acted courageously.

We don't know at this point in time what his motivation was, we will try to find out all we can so that we can try to understand what his motivations were. I will not be drawn into discussions about his bail, but he was known to police.

What a terribly tragic end to the events if the day :(

RIP Katrina and Tory.

I have to mention that I think Catherine Burn has been fabulous throughout this whole event. Full credit to her and her police men and woman involved.

Catherine Burn: This was a man who had a serious history of criminal violence, we do believe he was unstable.

Our plan was to resolve this peacefully, that is always our plan.

I give my absolute praise and thanks to everyone concerned. Those police went out there and they did their job. They did us proud. (Yes, they did!)

Monis received 300 community service hours and a two-year good behaviour bond for the correspondence, which he claims were his version of sympathy cards and sent with the help from his girlfriend Amirah Droudis.

The hostage-taker was charged as an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife - who was allegedly stabbed and set on fire on a flight of stairs in her western Sydney apartment block in November 2013. The man's current partner was charged with murder but they both received bail as the case was deemed too weak.

Not how I wanted it to end, but glad that the hostages are free. My thoughts and prayers are with these very brave folks...and the officers who set them free.

Haron was just such a piece of utter filth.

A man no nation, religion or faction could possibly be proud of, if they at all belong to humanity.

Can't even talk about the dead victims yet. That article with the flower tribute pics just did me in. I'm gonna sit with anger for a while.

I have no words for this....just no words....RIP to those beautiful people who lost their lives. I am gutted, so very sad. To our Aussie friends on WS, know we feel this so terribly and may you be surrounded by love and laughter. This could have been much worse if not for that young man. No more words....just sadness for now.

Police raid home of Haron Monis’ partner Amirah Droudis

ABOUT a dozen NSW and federal police with forensic kits have spent three hours at the house of Monis’ partner, Amirah Droudis, in Belmore in Sydney’s west.

Ms Droudis is understood to have been in the house at the time, but police at the scene would not say if she was interviewed.

The police left with several taped brown paper bags of various sizes.

Ms Droudis is currently on bail after being charged over the alleged murder of Monis’ former wife Noleen Hayson Pal, in April 2013.
