Australia - Mass shooting at Bondi Beach Hanukkah Celebration - 14 Dec 2025

The New South Wales parliament will be recalled ahead of Christmas next week to consider gun reforms in the wake of the Bondi terror attack.

Premier Chris Minns said among the reforms to be discussed were proposed limits on the number of firearms a licensed shooter could own.

The proposed legislation would also reclassify straight shotguns and prohibit belt-fed ammunition magazines in those weapons.

The legislation would seek to remove the right of shooters to appeal to the NSW Civil and Administrative tribunal when a licence is revoked.

Accelerating the launch of a national firearms register, and making Australian citizenship a condition of a gun licence is also being considered.

Mr Minns said the legislation was now being drafted and would be fast-tracked through parliament, which would sit on December 22 and 23.

"We're looking at reforms whereby, when there's a terrorism designation in the state, the police commissioner may not accept applications for protests on the grounds it will both stretch police resources and, secondly, add to community disharmony and as a result, a combustible situation in the state."

we've got a lot of antisemitism here in Canada too
it could easily have been this country
it's beyond sickening
we have to stand strong together

Yes, I’ve been dismayed at the radicalization of sweet, polite Canada. I’ve been there several times and never did I feel afraid until now.

Thank you for your honesty. It seems that all the countries which exhibited only tolerance have now become cesspools of hatred, particularly in violence against Jews.

ADMIN NOTE:

For members who wish to discuss gun control in general, we have a place for that :)

Members meet every Tuesday evening in Tricia's living room and she will serve pizza, burgers, coffee, tea, colas and home baked cookies.

Okay, that's not true. I made that up :P

To discuss gun control in general, please click HERE.

We've had to close that thread occasionally due to bickering that occurs, but as long as members can post civilly, it can stay open. Don't be "That Person" who ends up getting that thread closed.

In specific individual cases, which includes this current Bondi Beach case, members may of course discuss guns as they relate specifically to this case, i.e. weapon(s) used and how the perp may have acquired them, law only as it pertains to this specific case, etc. but politicizing by discussing the overall issue of gun control is off limits.

In the discussion thread for gun control / gun violence linked above, it is for general discussion but should not include specific cases. (I think that is explained in the Opening Posts.)

Any questions, please use the Report feature to enquire rather than derailing the discussion with off topic convo.

Thanks !!
