What will happen? Will he enter a plea?

The accused will not be required to enter pleas either to the single murder charge he currently faces or to any other charges which are expected to be laid by the Crown.

It is anticipated he will be charged with 49 more counts of murder and dozens of attempted murder charges.

There is also the possibility the Crown will seek to try him under the seldom-used Terrorism Suppression Act, which was introduced after the September 11 US terrorist attacks."

The Christchurch mosque gunman has now formally been charged with 50 counts of murder and 39 counts of attempted murder.

Initially, he was only charged with one count of murder while police investigations continued.

Police have not ruled out laying further charges.

Earlier this week a High Court judge ruled media would not be allowed to film or take photos of the accused when he appears.

The suspected Christchurch Mosque shooter reportedly sent funds to a far-right French group before sending a "donation" to Austria.
The Austrian far right have recently come under scrutiny for their links to the shooter.

"The 28-year-old Australian citizen who allegedly murdered 50 people in two Christchurch mosques last month reportedly sent a total of €2,200 ($2,490) to Génération Identaire, a French far-right anti-migrant movement, in late 2017."

Juries will decide whether companies have complied with the timetable, heightening the risk of high-profile convictions.

"Whenever there are juries involved, they can get it wrong but when you add into the mix technology - which is complex - the risk is heightened," Jason Bosland, professor of media law, University of Melbourne, told Reuters.

•Mark Zuckerberg has expressed reluctance to alter the Facebook feature that hosted video footage of the deadly terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The tech giant came under criticism after video of the attack, which killed 50 people, was livestreamed and widely circulated on its platform.

"Speaking to ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on Thursday, the Facebook founder and CEO admitted that the artificial intelligence it uses to filter harmful content failed to flag the video, adding that its reach may have been limited if livestreams were subject to a broadcast delay.

"But it would also fundamentally break what livestreaming is for people. Most people are livestreaming a birthday party or hanging out with friends when they can't be together," he said. "One of the things that's magical about livestreaming is that it's bi-directional, … you're not just broadcasting, you're communicating, and people are commenting back. So if you had a delay [it] would break that."

Although reluctant to introduce a delay on Facebook's livestream feature, Zuckerberg accepted that the company needed to work harder to "mitigate and remove as much of the negative (content) as possible."

High Court judge Cameron Mander made the order during a hearing in which 28-year-old Australian Brenton Harrison Tarrant appeared via video link from a small room at the maximum security Paremoremo prison in Auckland.

Tarrant was wearing handcuffs and a gray-colored sweater when he appeared on a large screen inside the Christchurch courtroom, which was packed with family members and victims of the shooting, some in wheelchairs and hospital gowns and still recovering from gunshot wounds.

Nearly 60 ANZAC Day services have been cancelled in the New Zealand city of Auckland.

There will be just 26 services in the region, down from 84 a year ago, the Auckland Council confirmed on Tuesday evening.

Cancellations are due to "safety concerns" held by the council in the wake of last month's Christchurch shootings.

The national threat level remains "high" after the attack.

The decision to cancel some services was made after discussions between police and the Returned and Services Association.

New Zealand Police have said there will be a police presence at each event, but are only there as a precaution.
