At the beginning of this case on WS, we went through every possible scenario including yours, Centred, but I have not been satisfied with any of them. Most seem to have accepted that MC suicided off the cliffs near her home but her foot being found on that beach hundreds of miles south where she spent time in her childhood seems to me to be too much of a coincidence.

I would like to know if LE have ever looked at other possible scenarios. However, I do not believe that MC is still alive with only one foot.

I have always suspected foul play. One example is that MC could have been driven to hide out near Bournda Beach area on the Sapphire Coast, murdered later, her foot cut off after death and then placed on the beach.

yeah i have no problem with that haha I am assuming LE did look surely at other options unless they became like the The myopic detective - IMDb looking forward to the development of this one :)

i wasn't under the allusion the foot had to have have drifted south at a spot she holidayed at , it might have and it might not have ,

And we did entertain the drive down the coast as well but why drive if you can take a luxury cruiser for a few weeks to gather yourself :) haha
Anyway same result ,

if we can entertain that she was bumped off and then defooted , then i suggest we can also entertain the shoe ended up there and she is still alive defooted or it was just flesh in the shoe

I am not certain we have to have someone else doing it, because we don't have a motive but if she did do it herself , we already have a motive.

Anyway i think it is all flight and fancy and she probably is gone for good .

In the attached vid it says AK is hit with an AVO to protect an investigator from ACIC.

Could Melissa Caddick still be alive? Leading criminologist says foot could provide more answers
‘My concern with that is, from what we know of Caddick’s personality, that just seems to really counter what you would expect of her.’

But the bones in the shoe, Mallett said, could provide a key insight into whether she was alive or dead when it was removed from her body.

“It is possible from an analysis of the foot to determine if there was active blood flow at the time that that foot is articulated, for example,” she said.

“There are analyses that can be done to help determine whether a person was alive or dead when an element was lost.”

I have seen references to the find in the shoe as flesh . not necessarily as bone ?
I gather this expert has no special access to this information , as she is only a spoke person for TV shows .

There have been many reports that bones were found. For example this from the campers:

“At the time we were all a bit in shock, we obviously didn’t think it was real at first. We were wondering whether someone had played a prank – put some chicken bones in a shoe or something," one man told 7News.
Gruesome new details after Melissa Caddick's foot found

And this:

The remains were found almost a week after two campers found a foot, which DNA testing showed was Ms Caddick's, on Bournda Beach near Tathra.
. . . .
Doubts now surround that theory given green growth was found on the bones in one of her sneakers, suggesting her foot may have only been in the ocean for a short period of time.
Police explore theory Melissa Caddick entered water only a few hundred metres from her home

I do very much agree this statement about MC personality and suicide not really aligning. Of all of the Ponzi swindlers we know about, some do prison time but they don’t tend to take their lives…tend to be grandiose, blame someone else and go on to live another day. I really do think Melissa felt she would have been able to weave a story and explain this away to - certainly AK would have bought it - creating stories was what she did. So why suicide?

“They will break the law if it suits their own needs, with little capacity for shame. “Antisocial personalities, because they are so narcissistic and self-centered, rarely kill themselves. It’s like, ‘There’s nothing wrong with me, you’re the problem,’” (Former FBI agent talking about Bernie Madoff)

On the other hand, see shrinks' opinions here: Found Deceased - Australia - Melissa Caddick, 49, Sydney, NSW, 12 Nov 2020 #8

I think it depends greatly on the individual personality and their own circumstances. I've read Madoff Talks by Jim Campbell. It gives a very good insight into his complex two-sided, enigmatic character.

One major difference between Madoff and Caddick, is that Madoff was a big wheel on Wall St with decades of experience of using his reputation and influence to bluff and evade regulatory investigators.

When the writing was on the wall and he was running out of money to cover panic withdrawals, he said he dreamed wishfully of a catastrophic event which would wipe everyone in the world out thereby releasing him from what had become more than a handful to manage.

......"suggesting her foot may have only been in the ocean for a short period of time".

This is why IMO MC could have been driven at her suggestion to Bournda Beach by one person to hide out there in an Airbnb, then the same or another person was told where she was and visited her many weeks later to try to find out where she hid the rest of the money, she was murdered, her foot cut off, body buried, then the foot was immersed in the sea somehow then placed on the beach to be found.

I also feel it went along these lines. They had ample time before reporting her missing. She may have hidden in the car while he cruised around trying to find a suitable place to drop her off.
She could have easily been dropped off at a beach without cameras and picked up by boat. The boat may have travelled south and stayed offshore near Bournda beach waiting for things to die down or at least buy time. An argument with the boat owner could have taken place at this stage due to media attention, lack of finances, no valid passport etc.. Even an inability to transfer and access funds could have hampered the escape any further - which may be why AK is so angry at ASIC for tacking all computers and items of value including his own.
The people assisting could be the 'Communities of Australia' he was appealing to in his press conference.
This argument or change in plans may mean she is murdered at that location and thrown into the shark infested ocean or given the opportunity to leave on her own. Which leads to her death at a later date explaining the shoe not being adrift for so long and being found in that location.
IMO once the son is old enough to provide a statement without an adult present, things will fall into place.

Yes the boat scenario could also be a possible one.

IMO this case is not over yet!!!!

And the reason for planting the foot would be, that someone needed it to be known that she was dead? It seems to me the head would have been more effective, less likely to be missed before being carried off by animals or perhaps washed back into the tide.

What's the connection then between Melissa having visited Bournda in her youth, once? twice? and the boat having moored offshore near Bournda? If no connection, then the shoe having been found at Bournda isn't an argument either way--it's just as much of a coincidence in either scenario.

Could be coincidence. Maybe it was a coincidence she was raided and she was going to top herself anyway? What's your theory? She slept after the raid without concern as AK stated and then got dressed in the same clothes she wore during the raid and jumped to her death?
Possible. But not as interesting. :)

Yes, I go for the less interesting theory that she always had suicide as her end-game, and a specific plan to go over the cliff. I think she aimed for high tide. She wasn't going to settle for a life incommensurate with her ideal. That some of us think there was a sufficiently good life available to her notwithstanding the prosecution--a son and a besotted husband, the prospect of a limited time in prison--doesn't come into it. Perhaps she did sleep in the peace of her decision. Perhaps she pretended to be asleep as soon as AK stirred. I've no particular opinion about the clothes. I can't imagine how her son fitted into her thinking.

Melissa's inquest has been set down for the weeks of 12th September and 26th September (Coroners Court, Lidcombe).

AK and Melissa's parents are expected to give testimony about 'her final moments' before Melissa disappeared.

The brief article doesn't say anything else that we don't know already.

Melissa Caddick inquest to begin in September

To my knowledge only in reading about suicide, it ends after a build up of negative emotions and experiences, sometimes suicide attempts and so on. MC had no prior warning that ASIC were going to knock on her door and raid her house that day. Most people's first reaction would be to hide from authorities to think things over. Then wonder, "Who can I ask to drive me somewhere to hide?" "Where will I hide?"
She didn't leave a note for her son so IMO she had hopes to see him again one day.

I can think of two people who could have been willing to drive her somewhere to hide - her brother or AK - but there could have been others we don't know about. She could have suggested Bournda Beach as it would have seemed an unlikely place for LE to look for her.

Being alone there for weeks, perhaps MC gradually became more and more suicidal or simply went surfing in a rough surf one day, drowned and a shark cut at her ankle - the foot of which was washed up on shore.

But who cleaned up after her there? Perhaps the person who drove her there went down to visit her one day and she was gone so discarded her possessions so no trace was left.
