Also, I wonder why AK's affidavit dated 16 December on ASIC's website has been redacted and isn't accessible. Is it just full of defamatory statements about the ASIC investigator, or does it contain sensitive information about the case...

Yes I agree with you.

I wonder what led the the AFP/ASIC to discount AK's involvement in the fraud. We hear nothing of the authorities wanting him to hand in his passport. For him to be presumed innocent so early in the case seems strange. I imagine most criminals would deny involvement and play dumb when faced with jail time until the authorities produced some evidence against them.
It took them how many complaints and how many months to get them to look at Melissa?--who was carrying on a type of business they were supposed to regulate. I don't think they'd be making work for themselves by wondering if somebody else should be examined.

Just had a thought - now, if I were a lonely lady "of a certain age", and very rich, I might buy the house and ask AK if he'd like to move back in with me and be my butler/secretary, whatever. And we'll all live happily ever after!

You're welcome to him!

On May 12, 2017, Koletti withdraws $1500 in three separate withdrawals at the Crows Nest Hotel. Four day later, he’s at the Eastern Hotel in Bondi Junction making two withdrawals each of $500. The next day he does the same thing at Tea Gardens Hotel in Bondi Junction.

This pattern is repeated month in, month out.

Withdrawals from hotels? Why? What does that mean? Gambling, prostitutes?

Gambling or “something else”

It does make me wonder if, after the asic raid, AK got upset that his lavish lifestyle was going to come to and end and he got angry and was responsible for what happened to MC. I just can’t shake the feeling that he may have had something to do with it.

MOO

Oh that's an interesting spin, I hadn't thought of that as a possibility

My first thought was poker machines. Hadn't considered call girls.

What interests me is who made the regular cash deposits at the Bondi Branch, and why cash?

I can’t work out if AK is taking the piss when he says with a straight face that he never took any of Melissa’s money or if he’s so deep in denial he actually believes it. Is he completely lacking self-awareness? Or laughing at everyone up his sleeve?

He probably thinks he never took any. I mean all those small amounts may not have added together for him.

But he also benefited in other ways - the car, the house in the eastern suburbs, bills paid for etc. In his mind this may not have been ‘taking’.

After hearing the latest installment of Liar Liar I am even more convinced that the guy has a room temperature IQ.

Definitely. I have wondered that ever since the beginning of this case.

The plot thickens - how thick is he? or alternately how clever? is he in fact a brilliant actor? is he poor? or is he really rich? He's as big a mystery as his wife.

Stupid people can be pretty brazen.

I guess I’m alone in thinking AK isn’t stupid? IMO he’s well-spoken and apparently good at his trade, hairdressing. The music is a vanity project. In other circumstances I could see his concept album Raid as intentionally comic. Can see why the AVO was taken out against him though.
He managed to live spectacularly well for 8 years which doesn’t take brains but perhaps luck and a certain ability to lean into other people’s wealth?

He presents well enough for a TV career, but you wouldn't want him writing his own content.

No, you're not alone. As Estelle says ... his dumb act works well for him.
(Not that I think he is some kind of mastermind. But you don't get to his age without learning from experience.)

I am sure that he is astute enough to have not peed his cash cow (Melissa) off too much, for example.
He was smart enough to keep Melissa's son with him somehow. That guaranteed him an income and helped prolong his occupancy of the house.

As you say, he knows how to lean into wealth.

imo
