Dennis certainly seems to be getting very good treatment, being given bail for the original charges of a major indictable offence! And then he applied to the court to remove his bail reporting, and he got it! After all, he is an ex-Olympian!

I mentioned earlier how Dennis has been treated very well with bail being granted, and then not having to report to Police whilst on bail, but now I’ve just been looking at posts very early in this matter, and low and behold….. his drivers licence wasn’t even taken off him!!!!! I find that absolutely incredible!!

The Child Protection Minister has made a statement (paraphrased) saying that they were notified of the situation, they have made an assessment, the children are being supported by their grandparents, and their safety is of the highest priority.

Yeah, I don't think they can take his license until he is convicted. Until then he is innocent until proven guilty.
The longer that the prosecution/judge allow him to delay, the longer he keeps his freedom and his license.

I wonder if one of his bail conditions is that he is not allowed to drive other people around (especially the children). I don't think that we have ever heard his bail conditions. Only that he no longer has to report (since mid-March 2024).

I am just so sad for Melissa.

The delays are frustrating, god knows how her family are feeling. I don’t recall hearing them come out in defence of Rohan?
IMO if I was involved in a terrible accident and full of remorse over the outcome, especially after a well documented history of anger issues and outbursts - I’d be pleading asap and pushing for punishment as soon as humanely possible, whatever the court decides.
Get it out of the way, accept responsibility for my involvement and show everyone how deeply sorry I am. I’d be full of shame for not addressing my anger issues sooner and that my absence of self control contributed to the death of my children’s mother.
Then after being sentenced I’d try to move forward with the rest of my guilt ridden life showing respect for Melissa, attempting to honour her life and support the children to whatever extent is appropriate.
Maybe work on my own anger issues then get into some kind of speaking/counselling/awareness raising role to help educate other Men around options available to combat their own anger and rage, promote services that bring to light dv issues in seemingly “idyllic” families and discuss how small lapses of self control can escalate and ruin lives.

I feel like the last thing I’d be doing in that circumstance is trying to make my life easier, appealing to have bothersome parole requirements exempted and delaying finally being able to pay the price for and publicly accept responsibility for my actions in court.

All imo of course.

Looks to me like Dennis should have had his licence suspended immediately. Special treatment for special people???

If a driver is formally charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving (via the laying of an Information in court), the Commissioner of Police must give the driver a notice of immediate licence disqualification or suspension (ILOL notice). The Commissioner of Police must ensure the prescribed details of the notice are forwarded to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. The Registrar of Motor Vehicles must then post a separate notice of licence disqualification or suspension to the driver [Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 (SA) s 19AE(1-4)].

A police officer may issue an ILOL notice where they reasonably believe that a driver has committed the offence of death by dangerous driving [Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 (SA) s 19AF(1)]. Are you sure he has been driving? It's quite clear watching the video in the link from the post you're quoting that he is not driving the car. Is there another video/photo somewhere?

He might not be driving. I was looking at some photos of him going to and from his place in a white car, but he seems to have been snapped hopping out of the passenger side and opening the roller door.

The article also mentions him being driven in a Silver Tarago (being driven, not driving) ... their children taken in a different vehicle.

And I know I saw a photo of him transporting the children on his bike. With different attached seating for the children.

Former professional cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty over an incident which resulted in the death of his Olympian wife Melissa Hoskins last December.

On Tuesday, Mr Dennis entered a guilty plea to one aggravated count of creating likelihood of harm relating to a crash at the front of the couple's Medindie home in Adelaide's inner-north.

Prosecutors dropped a charge of dangerous driving causing death and an aggravated charge of driving without due care.

Ms Hoskins, a mother-of-two, was struck by a car driven by Dennis outside their home on December 30.

The Adelaide Magistrates Court today heard prosecutors accepted the plea to the new charge because Dennis was reckless, and did not intend to kill his wife.
