I’ve just watched the police announcement interview and became confused about how they concluded deceased, yet there has not been any concrete discovery of bodies. They are giving condolences to the families. Are they just assuming what will be discovered? So sad for all involved on so many levels.

It feels like there has been some admissions maybe.

They may have had information for quite awhile now that proves they could only be deceased.

Russell Hill and Carol Clay: 55-year-old man charged with murders of Victorian campers

"Victoria police assistant commissioner Bob Hill said investigators had allegedly discovered a crime scene within the great alpine region on Thursday morning.

“We’ve located a specific area and we will be establishing a search perimeter in the coming days and we are hopeful we will locate the remains of Mr Hill and Ms Clay,” he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday night."

I hope this means he confessed and told them where to find their bodies.

My thoughts are that he will plead not guilty.

How he could do that if he has revealed where they are, I just don't know, but I think he won't just cave.

Just some possibilities....

it'll be very interesting to hear what the police think occurred that day and what lead to their deaths

even if it was campsite norms, no one should have died over it

somewhere along the line, some very poor decisions were made that not only affected the lives of two families but also the accused own family

No Cookies | Herald Sun

He will appear in Sale Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning. Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill said a crime scene was established on Thursday in the Great Alpine National Park

The Herald Sun can reveal specialist Australian Federal Police resources were used to look for fresh evidence following the Jetstar pilot’s sudden arrest on Monday.

Ground imaging equipment has been deployed at the 55-year-old father’s Caroline Springs property.

The ground-penetrating radar technology is capable of locating items buried deep underground and within concrete structures. It’s understood the technology has been used extensively at the residential property in a bid to uncover potential items of interest in the Wonnangatta inquiry.

Great Alpine National Park

makes me question if the police were on to it the whole time, remember when they suddenly shifted to Hotham and then found those two shovels

its very intriguing

From the presser:

In mid-2020 their investigators from the Missing Persons Squad established that Mr Hill and Miss Clay were deceased.

They’re also continuing to appeal to anyone who knows the whereabouts of a blue coloured trailer that was attached to the Nissan Patrol to come forward. The trailer remains outstanding and police are keen to speak to anyone who purchased or received a similar trailer, particularly during the period of March and July last year. They believe the trailer was sold on Gumtree.

No other person is being sought with respect to this murder investigation.

How far away is the Great Alpine National Park from the burnt camp site?

The previous wife of GL died in 1999 in Victoria, and was buried in Tasmania.

Thankyou to the many kind respectful people who have replied to my post of being confused. You are prime examples of what WS should be about. You coach members through to find clarity with your experience and information behind you which you offer forth. I think that is wonderful. I feel supported (and not be made to feel stupid) in being a newbie to this particular thread. Hubby and I watched this case on TV some months ago and because of today’s arrest I have come here, as WS is an amazing platform to express interest, questions, compassion and opinions ultimately seeking truth. Thanks to you all xx

He might claim self defence relating to RH and perhaps accident re CC, eg shot at deer and accidentally killed CC then RH attacked him - that sort of thing. He might try for manslaughter hoping to get out in early 60s with good behaviour rather than maybe 75 or 80 with murder conviction

I'm wondering if he may have disclosed the general area where the bodies can be located. Hopefully they'll be found and their families can lay them to rest. RIP Russell and Carol.

Now we wait for accountability.

My partner said maybe he was on drugs.

Could make sense losing his job during covid and depression set in.

It’s in it. The Alpine national park is 650,000 hectares, give or take.

I believe fires have ripped through that area so if he buried Russell and Carol there might be a chance of finding them intact otherwise animals might have dispersed their remains.

RIP.
I hope Carol wasn’t sexually assaulted.
