Grim twist in the mysterious disappearance of a married camper and his beauty queen 'friend' as police find human remains 200km away in same mountain range - and cops won't say whose they are

Human remains have been found in the same mountain range where two campers mysteriously disappeared two months ago.
Human remains have now been found 200km away from the station at Moondarra in Victoria's high country, 9News reported.

The State Emergency Service were called on Saturday evening to investigate the discovery, but police remain tight-lipped as to whether it is related to the elderly pair's disappearance.
This must be unrelated.. it's too far from the Wonnangatta.
Most of these news outlets are repeating rumour and chit chat. They are the echo chamber for gossip.

This sums it up: not for mucking around. Beautiful but deadly. What’s with the references to snakes? Are they just one of many wildlife creatures?

this is the Alpine area of victoria think of it as our hamptons it snows in winter and hot in summer

lots of snakes in that wilderness, lots of ravines to fall into and just lost of things to go wrong if you are not careful

this area actually has 3 varieties of deadly snakes that live within that region not saying they died from a snake bite, just that its there

They are but they’re probably the most deadly thing you could come across easily in the bush.

Not saying that’s what happened but you’re right beauty and deadly

Biggest danger in our alpine regions is the weather.
Without much notice you could be out hiking in your summer gear and then experience cold and sleet.
Wet cold is the worst .. if you work hard to warm up .. then eat snow and take a nap.. You may not wake up.(hyperthermia / exposure)
All the hazards including snakes would be front of mind to this couple as they were born and bred 'in the bush'

its not fully likley no

wear boots, tuck your pants into your socks, wear good quality jeans or pants

watch where you go, have a good long poking stick to poke the ground in front of you

you'll be fine, just pay attention to your surroundings is the main thing

Okay, just because I'm a twisted thinker, is there any chance they had another vehicle or had someone to retrieve them after the big fire? I guess I'm hoping that they've run away together and not met with horrible misfortune.

It'd be great to discover they're alive, but to do that to their family? Pretty immature thing to do but who knows?

Missing Victorian campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay seen camping together month before disappearance

A month before they went missing, Victorian friends Russell Hill and Carol Clay were spotted camping together, a man has claimed.

Scott McDonald, an avid camper himself, claims he saw the pair camping at Pikes Flat, about a month before they went missing.

McDonald said the two friends introduced themselves to him after he set up camp next to them, adding he chatted to Hill, but not so much to Clay.

“Russell had some wires strung up in the tree and we were asking him what it was but he was using the ham radio,” he said.

“We just had a bit of a chat and he said he was a retired logger, had worked up around that area (and that) they loved to get up in the high country.

@Ramjet
So interesting. Sure looked dangerous. What if that fella had slid on the scruff part of that hill?

No .. this is the Daily Mail perpetuating myths and misinformation.
I agree, never read it unless it's posted on WS, an unreliable gossip rag with great pics. But there's definitely more to this disappearance than I first thought. Foul play, lover's tiff, run away couple...

Now there's suggestion the fire may have been deliberately lit afterall. Interesting.

it could have been deliberately lit but after they had already gone missing as well

its a bit of who knows
