He returned home on the afternoon of 22 March, 2 days after the murders. If my husband left home with a trailer and returned without it, after greeting him, the first thing I’d say is “Where’s the trailer?” Surely Melanie would have asked about it.

It was the very start of the pandemic lock downs. People where stripping supermarket shelves of toilet paper! It was pretty crazy times in Melbourne from memory and I could see why anything unusual about his camping trip would get overlooked.

I think he actually returned with the trailer because i think he said he washed it before he returned (I'll check that) and also he brought the wooden top back and had since used it for something else.

He said he painted the trailer before he sold it to this mysterious buyer. I imagine that painting it involved first washing it.

Maybe he painted it, intending to keep it. (Maybe at the same time that he painted his vehicle?) Then dumped it when he realised he was on the police radar. Just in case the painting (and washing) did not remove all of the forensic evidence.
