Australia - Russell Hill & Carol Clay Murdered While Camping - Wonnangatta Valley, 2020 #9

I suppose the book is not a step by step account of everything that happened, but I seem to remember that he may have stayed at a motel and blood was found in the bathroom.

Oh yes, here it is.

" Former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn was suspected of going to a hotel room after the alleged murder of elderly campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, a court has heard.

Forensic experts found the blood of Mr Hill, 74, was 'likely' found on a single sample from a white bathmat at a hotel in the Wonnangatta Valley, in Victoria's rugged alpine region, but it was later deemed implausible.

On Friday, Crown prosecutors confirmed police believe Lynn went straight home after allegedly killing the couple".

I guess it turned out not to be true ?

I'm wondering about the reason he had previously changed his cars colour.

IIRC, It was painted blue in 2016 after Lynn returned from a long trip to central and northern Australia.

Also IIRC, a neighbour commented the vehicle was always rusty looking, however, in light of the other missing people, one has to wonder about the earlier repaint.

Who paints their car with a brush too? It must have looked about as authentic as the horse in the Fine Cotton ring-in scandal.

And - according to Lynn - he got his sons to help him paint the vehicle (at least the 2nd time). A family team of vehicle brush painters. But, no doubt, got the paint job done more quickly than doing it alone.

... and -- importantly -- no record at any spray painting company of a Nissan Patrol colour change, should police be asking.

Pictures of some of the repainting in progress in the story link. No masking or hint of prep work by the look of it either! MOO

Have to wonder where he even went on that long trip.

In this case, he apparently told his family that he was going to spend a few days in the Grampians when he, in fact, headed straight back to Wonnangatta Valley - where the police flew in and arrested him because they could hear him getting desperate and despairing on the journey. They were afraid he would suicide and the case would forever be unsolved.

Yes! It would have been a possible question to ask, I never thought of that! Greg Lynn outsmarted us! :)

The police identified Lynn as an 'apex liar'. Someone with a born instinct for knowing exactly what small details he had to adjust in a mountain of verifiable facts to allow the truth to escape unscathed.

Another story about the couple had played on the radio earlier that day as he was driving. The court had heard Mr Lynn then turned up the volume on his radio and said: “I put a *advertiser censored**ing trigger lock on it. You’ve gotta get a second set of trigger lock *advertiser censored**ing keys and stick them in there. ... They’ve just got to keep pushing all the time, don’t they?”
Just at a guess, maybe he's telling himself not to fire off his mouth or get riled up by the investigation and do or say something stupid. For eg to his wife, or police if they came by with more questions.

I looked back at around May 21/21, a man was reported as having seen a white UTE pulling a trailer. Not a very accurate sighting, but still...getting closer...

I wonder if he wished he'd had a trigger lock on his gun the night of the murders, and not acted like a hothead and shot the couple.

Do we know exactly when he changed the car colour the first time, was it just after his trip or later.
It was said to be blue by 2019.

Maybe something happened on the way back home. Or later.

I know there was a hit and run in Jamieson, in the high country in 2017 but police think it may have been deer hunters because the dying man said he saw bright lights.

Behind a paywall, I think. Posting it here for those who subscribe.

Why is Lynn still in Melbourne Assessment Prison when he has been convicted and sentenced? Is it because he quickly lodged an appeal? I don't get it. Relatively cushy life for a prisoner in MAP.

Your linked article says that Lynn is one of the well fed prisoners in MAP.
