It think it is Sam. It looks like the robber puts his arm around him....either that, or the robber is giving him a shove--as in to say.."move it". Hard to tell. MOO

Sorry, I don't have time to find the link to the video, xmsmadex, as I'm about to head out the door. Hopefully someone can post it for you.

We see the robber with the gun come out the same inner door the two went in. We don't see the other robber come out there. Then we see a thin man in shorts and apparently a backpack appear ahead of the second robber in a different location. They approach a door or doorway. The robber puts his hand on the back of the thin man's neck as if to assert control and then gives his shoulder a rub. Then they step up through the door.

The second robber's gait is distinctive with a certain side-to-side motion.

The shoes look like Nike sneakers to me...was thinking air max initially but I don't think they have the bubbles...but I'll eat crow if they're not nikes....not that I can see what difference it's going to make...nikes are incredibly popular shoes...maybe creeping his sm to find someone who wears same shoes...but again,so common!!

ETA:The second part of the clip,I had assumed it was the robbers and one of them had disrobed...they looked rugged up for QLD weather and maybe thought they were out of camera range...
But it could well be Sam as other posters are positing...just never crossed my mind...And he looks remarkably relaxed if it Sam.

All above is MOO

This is pretty sad. For some reason, police and Sam's family do not feel the need to keep Sam's profile in the media.
And I think we all can take an educated guess about why media coverage is not a high priority. :(

It seems the main concern was to trace the movements of Sam's car that day, so they can perhaps gather CCTV and other info, and try to nail the perps down.

Yep, SouthAussie, I fear he is completely lost

so, i dont understand, why would this be made low profile now? do they think its suicide?

I am bewildered.

If they did not believe foul play was involved, wouldn't they come out and say it?

It is hard to know really why people do things. You know, we look at how the car was left 'abandoned' in Bald Hills overnight. Sounds mad huh.. well last Friday I met up with some friends to go for some drinks, I collected my friends and was supposed to drive into the city. We decided to pull into a random hotel about a mile outside the city for a drink and I left the car there and we got a taxi into town. I got a taxi home that night and did not collect my car until Sunday evening as I just did not need it and was lazy. Totally unrelated to this case I know, but hypothetically speaking, if I had 'gone missing' over the weekend, my abandoned car would of raised eyebrows here... I am sure people would question why it was parked at some hotel with no connection to me.

Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is, we have no idea why anyone does anything, and without more info from LE, it is impossible to know the story here.

I still hope for answers, but until we get more media or LE reports, I am out.

Detective Inspector Tim Trezise said police now believed Mr Thompson may have been involved with “unsavoury” characters.
He said Mr Thompson’s behaviour had been completely out of character.
Inspector Trezise said police had received a lot of calls to Crime Stoppers, and that police were now looking at the man’s ‘connections’.

I don't know what you're hinting at. I went to bed hoping I'd be less stupid the next day, but I'm not.

If they'd found the body, wouldn't they say? Do you think they've found a suicide note? If they suspected suicide but weren't sure, wouldn't they want people to keep looking? Do they think this was a falling out among thieves and would rather preserve the victim's reputation than catch a murderer?

Perhaps we're all just too hungry for news and a few days' silence isn't supposed to signal "everybody, stop looking."

Looking at the dates for when Sam went overseas according to his facebook- they line up completely with members of his family also going overseas. Sam's pics are of him overseas, but it seems to be a family holiday. Doesn't explain all of his expensive purchases, but does shed some light on the European holiday.

I think he may be deceased. I think his family believe he was in some kind of trouble (perhaps through some kind of communication from Sam, or not showing up for an important event), and that is why word went out so fast and searches happened immediately by police ... for an independent male adult who could have gone anywhere, doing anything. He certainly seemed to travel a lot - even taking an impulsive quick trip to Bali, according to his FB page. Sam was unemployed and not committed to any work schedule.

His dilemna may have been confirmed by evidence in Sam's car after it was located.

And I do not believe that police will ask the public to look for a deceased person's remains.

I can see the driver turn they're head toward the left at .42 JLZ.

On looking at it again, if what I'm seeing is real and not shadows, I see a head (in the left hand passenger side - front seat I think) side on, turned to they're right at .40 just before the driver leans to the left.

I agree.

I don't think it's suicide - they've always stated it was homicide, even from the very beginning. (the speed of which that announcement was made was very odd and indicates to me that they had significant information in their possession...LE are reticent to even investigate a missing persons case that soon, let alone call it a homicide).

To me, everything points to drugs. Young guy, no job, big money on hand.......and then to disappear completely. I think he got in over his head.

It is a sad conclusion to have to come to. If it is true, please let it become a cautionary tale. In due course.

I think you are exactly right. He got in with the wrong crowd, and i think sadly this won't have a good outcome, :(
Lots of other young people have come to grief in the same way. Remember that Jamie Gao kid that was murdered by Roger Rogerson. They murdered him and dumped his body in the ocean, the devils.
