Australia - Shey Webber, 35, found badly injured in her Warranwood home

  • #281
I am curious to know why the police or family can't provide an update to the media. The police and family appealed for help, why can't they provide an update or closure for those who are interested /concerned?

I so agree ColdFacts & you are right, any kind of information would be appreciated.

According to Shey's sister, Shey was still on life support 10 days ago - and Shey's sporty little car is up for sale.

Still on life support? Doesn't sound like she is doing too well. It doesn't look like a full recovery is coming up any time soon. Prayers that she gets well.

Sometimes it takes a long time. We had a friend who was in an accident and his recovery was very, very slow. jmo

I had a friend on life support after he was knocked off his bicycle. This was back in the 1970's. He was on life support for 7 months. The hospital decided he was able to come off it full time and then within days he died. But then medicine has changed so much in 40 years.

My apologies- I must have missed this-
A nurse who was found with severe head injuries at her Melbourne home has been awoken from her induced coma but still cannot tell police what happened to her.

Police believe the 35-year-old may have been attacked by someone she met on an online dating website but in a new twist police have revealed that the nurse's injuries could have been caused by falling down the stairsin her townhouse.

So we weren't imagining that she was out of the coma, it was reported!

So much confusion!!

I found this info when trying to see how Shey could be on life support and out of her medically induced coma and stable, all at the same time.

Maybe Shey has been awoken from the medically induced coma, but is still in a vegetative state (or other serious condition) and so is still on life support.

Patients in a vegetative state may have awoken from a coma, but still have not regained awareness.

The persistent vegetative state is the standard usage (except in the UK) for a medical diagnosis, made after numerous neurological and other tests, that due to extensive and irrevocable brain damage a patient is highly unlikely ever to achieve higher functions above a vegetative state. This diagnosis does not mean that a doctor has diagnosed improvement as impossible, but does open the possibility, in the US, for a judicial request to end life support.

http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_vegetative_state

A persistent vegetative state is a disorder of consciousness in which patients with severe brain damage are in a state of partial arousal rather than true awareness.

I wonder where icunurse is?

There is an article here that explains life support. It is not isolated to just breathing assistance, though typically it includes that. It also encompasses the need to be fed, kept free of bacteria and infection, helped with fluids in and out, etc .....

This all sounds so glum - but the human body can and frequently does make truly amazing recoveries over time. :prayer:

ACCIDENT OR ATTEMPTED MURDER

benefits of an accident........NIL
benefits of an attempted murder.......victims compensation & home insurance.
Yep I'd be thinking the same way.

That seems pretty cynical TGY! I think that the family genuinely didn't know that it was caused by an accident - any more than LE did until recently! This is a relatively new development. The family doesn't strike me as uncaring or money-hungry. JMO :twocents:

Yes Isisising it came through too cynical and was I out of line. I'm sad for the whole incident and can only imagine the pain the family is suffering. I am also sad for the neighbours living around the vicinity not knowing what the hell is going on, or have they only heard the truth through rumours.
The family asking for money to retain Shey's home may have been a vicious rumour too.

Police find evidence inconclusive of attack on Warranwood Nurse

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/east/police-find-evidence-inconclusive-of-attack-on-warranwood-nurse/story-fngnvlxu-1226811450450

"We have had forensic people examine her medical records from the hospital and some of the advice is that she may have sustained a fall," Sergeant Guy said.

"The main injury to her head is consistent with a fall, but if she was pushed or not, we don't know."

"Her prognosis remains poor," he said.

"She's still in an acute care ward.

"(We do not know) if she will even remember and be able to tell us what happened."

Ian 'Molly' Meldrum had his accident in December 2011, two years before Shey's fall. Today I heard him on the radio and could hear a slight but noticeable slur still in his voice, so after all this time he is still recovering from a fall similar to Shey. Here's praying they both fully recover.

Shey's sister Temeka has posted a short piece about Shey on her facebook.
