GUILTY Australia - Sophie Collombet, 21, found dead in Kurilpa Park, Brisbane, 27 March 2014

 • #621
I've been following this forum as new posts appear and wonder a few things myself.
-If he was on drugs, how was he so thoughtful and crafty to be able to kill Sophie out of sight of CCTV? Surely this involved some prior planning and thought that one would lose touch of if he was as drugged as some are making him out to be. Where is the actual evidence he was on drugs, does anyone actually know?

<modsnip>

-Poor Sophie, may she rest in peace

So he covered her with newspapers - I'm trying to understand that piece of info........why did he do that?

Any ideas?

Welcome Eva100!!:seeya:

Good question re was he on drugs that night. He was definitely on alcohol:

Police will allege Milward and a friend were drinking at the Kurilpa Park rotunda on the night of March 27

Hi Eva100 .... welcome! :seeya:

It sounds as though BM was, at the very least, drinking at the rotunda earlier. Police seem to have that info, so it is very possible that they have further info about ice that they have not released (due to further investigations, impending court case).

If he spent time drinking there (and perhaps using drugs as well) he would know where the CCTV was and was not, I would think.

Police will allege Milward and a friend were drinking at the Kurilpa Park rotunda on the night of March 27.

But they say he was alone when Ms Collombet tried to walk by on her way home from university. The international business student would have been able to see her apartment across the river when she was attacked.

A man told police he had been drinking at the rotunda with a man named “Ben” who lived at a nearby hostel.
The hostel confirmed Milward had been staying with them but said he had not returned for several nights and his clothes and possessions had been left behind.

Really strange, isn't it?

Did he suddenly not want to look at what he had done?
Did he think that if he covered poor Sophie up it was as if it hadn't happened?
Was he trying to re-clothe her?
Was he trying to soak up some of the blood?
'Get rid' of his own blood/DNA trail?

:dunno:

One article said that he also used a jacket (as well as the newspapers) to cover Sophie. Made me think that is where her jacket went, and why it wasn't listed in her missing clothes.

Police will allege Ms Collombet met her end at the hands of a killer who stripped her naked then covered her with a jacket and pages from a newspaper before throwing her clothes and bag into the Brisbane River.

I hope that the Brisbane city council are making plans to pull down that rotunda (when the investigation is completed), fill the spot with a big flower garden (to honour Sophie, and to stop it being a 'hang out' spot) ... and put more CCTV in the black spots where people may hang out.

 Hi South Aussie..and other forum members..
Ah yes, it makes sense that he might know CCTV blindspots if he spent time there, which he obviously did. Though using that for the purposes in which he did is very cunning in the least. If you were drinking, enough to use as a defence for your behaviour, would you remember that? Would you have the control and coordination still?

Just thinking more about the question of him being 'off his head' on ice -

Even though the attack itself was frenzied, he then placed her on the bench and covered her body neatly. That doesn't speak to me of a psychotic rampage.........that speaks of order and control IMO.

And the attack could have been so gruesome due to his pent up rage against women, rather than from any drug. As we've seen from his FB page, he hardly holds females in high regard

Wet newspaper? - it was raining that night.
I'm also thinking: how long did this attack take? Then to have the mind to cover her over...
Doesn't make sense to me - he would have newspaper ink all over his hands and his fingerprints should be on Sophie, or belongings - if he chucked them in the river.
I am sure I read they recovered some of her belongings.
-----
As for him being unemotional in court - it would not surprise me if they had medicated him - he would be in withdrawal if he was on any substances.
-----
He hitchhiked?
Im suspicious about that statement.
I hope they can get the person who picked him up to come forward then.
I would be thinking it was more likely it was someone he knew.

Disgusting. So glad they caught this animal, though that still seems too kindly of a description.

MOO: 🤬🤬🤬🤬 addict. So far gone that he openly commented in such a manner on FB. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 addict like the worst of the worst of them. I'm not against 🤬🤬🤬🤬, but when the wrong type of person gets too far into it, all the while being rejected (whether in reality, or in his mind) by the type of women depicted... it's like a pre-emptive strike to protect the ego, and satisfy the urges at the same time. There should be a way to flag people who comment like that on social media. It's not normal behavior. It's obsessive and so objectifying it's completely undiscerning about who's on the receiving end.

RIP lovely, driven, inspired lady.

Sophie had a boyfriend who quite recently left the country when his visa expired ... Sophie planned to meet up with him again in France in 6 weeks or so.

She was busy studying until then, and seemed to have a close circle of friends from Uni.

And BM's DNA at the murder scene led to his arrest. I doubt this would be DNA from him hanging out drinking there - it is probably far more intimate DNA involving contact with Sophie.

POLICE will claim DNA found at the scene of French student Sophie Collombet’s murder matched that of the man charged with the offence.

Police will allege evidence collected at the rotunda, including DNA, led investigators to issue the warrant for Milward’s arrest.

Her friend Roselyne Trott told Fairfax Media that Ms Collombet’s boyfriend Boris returned to France when his visa expired in February.

Ms Collombet was planning to join him in June.

Thinking of everyone matching tonight.

I agree that he could have been a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 addict. The thought crossed my mind too. This is absolutely just MOO but I am really against 🤬🤬🤬🤬 - not for modesty/purity/prudish reasons but because it is SO anti woman, ie feminist reasons. IMO the risks with 🤬🤬🤬🤬 WAY outweigh the benefits. I know that many people argue that there can be feminist or pro-woman 🤬🤬🤬🤬 but I totally disagree.

shine a light on violence

April 10, 2014 7:09PM

HUNDREDS of people have gathered in Brisbane’s King George Square to honour slain French student Sophie Collombet.

He told The Courier Mail the turnout of about 600 members of the public was a strong sign of the community’s support for the Collombet family.

“At the end of the day it’s all about the community saying that this is unacceptable,” Mr Seeney said

“There will be a lot of time in the future to look at legislation and putting more security cameras in place.

“But I think tonight is about the community saying that girls like Sophie can come to Brisbane, we want them to and we want them to feel safe.
