GUILTY Australia - Sophie Collombet, 21, found dead in Kurilpa Park, Brisbane, 27 March 2014

""bruising ran along her spine and tiny puncture marks were found on the soles of her feet and her buttocks"" quote post 614
jmo -this damage would come from being on a -wooden- table --hard surface and wood slivers jmo

Has anyone got any theories regarding these puncture marks?? Seems odd. I don't think splinters from wooden surface would do that. They were found on the bottom of her feet and her buttocks.

I’m new here. I’ve read the forums over the years but finally decided to join because of this case.
I work around the corner from where this happened. I walk through that park everyday and often have lunch at the rotunda. I walked through Kurilpa park at 5pm on the day she murdered. As a female the same age as Sophie it’s pretty shocking. The afternoon I walked through Kurilpa park, it was eerie, it had been raining all day and nobody was around except for a drunk man under the William Jolly bridge on Montage Rd (I’m thinking now this may have been the man who was drinking with BM!). I actually didn’t cross the road and walked for an extra block to avoid this man because he gave me a bad feeling. Funny enough though, as alone as I was, a cop car did drive through the park on their usual patrol (they patrol the park very frequently – probably every hour.)The next morning I heard that they found a body in the park. I had to walk over Kurilpa bridge that morning and witnessed the crime scene. I thought the murder must have taken place under the Kurilpa bridge because that’s where the police were focusing and had cornered off. The rotunda where Sophie was found is probably 100 – 150 metres away from that down the bike path. The route Sophie would have taken that night along the river is well lit and relatively safe at night. The heavy rain that day however must have kept people off that track. I’m guessing BM has grabbed her before she got to Kurilpa bridge and has taken her down to the rotunda. The rotunda is in between two paths and kind of at the bottom of a little hill. It would be easy to hide in there at night. The community around here are genuinely shocked and saddened by this. I hope that brings some comfort to Sophie’s family. Excuse typos im on my phone!

Hi xmeow and welcome! :seeya:

I've wondered so often about where exactly it was that BM grabbed Sophie and have looked through so many Google images trying to see if there was a path that ran behind the rotunda, closer to the fence, as well as the one that ran along the front it at the edge of the river. From what I can make out there would be no need for Sophie to veer off the path that runs under William Jolly Bridge down onto the path in front of the rotunda?.

I'm also wondering if 'something' may have 'happened' close to the area under the William Jolly Bridge, shown in the screen shot below, or maybe somewhere near to where Sophie would have been approaching the WJB?. Also, do you know where the 'blind spot' is in Kurilpa Park that is spoken of in MSM?. tia.

Hi Enzeder,

I think you’re looking at the map wrong. Sophie would have been coming in the other direction. You will notice the Kurilpa bridge is on a bend in the river. Sophie was coming from South Bank and walking along the river and BM would have been on the other side of the Kurilpa bridge heading towards West end. If you see on the map the Gallery of Modern Art is right near the bridge…. Sophie would have been walking infront of that. I suspect she was grabbed on the corner of GOMA right near Kurilpa bridge and then taken towards the William Jolly and then the rotunda.

The path she was walking is very well lit and I imagine GOMA would have good security cameras so I’m not sure where the black spot must be. However, the William Jolly Bridge is quiet dark and anything past there gets pretty dodgy. I don’t imagine many people walk past there at night and see no reason why Sophie would veer off course and head towards the William Jolly. There were about 10 police markers under the William Jolly at the crime scene so it may have been where she put up a good fight.

You are right that the path past William Jolly splits into two, one by the river and the other by the fence of Pauls factory.

I was thinking this may have been broken glass on the ground somewhere - or a needle spike. I haven't heard, but he could have threatened her with something like these as weapons?
Just my speculation.

BBM (bold by me) ^ Many thanks xmeow!. Regarding the BBM in your post - I can see on the map the route Sophie walked along the S Bank Boardwalk, past GOMA then to the corner near the Kurilpa bridge. Which route would she have taken from there?. I thought that she would have to pass under the William Jolly bridge to get to the Go Between bridge?. tia

oh you're right. I thought Sophie lived in North Quay not Quay Street. North Quay is just on the other side of the Kurilpa Bridge. Wow that's quite a walk and would have taken her right past the rotunda. Unfortunately it's very dark at night and no security cameras as there is just a factory. However like I said, at the crime scene there was a focus under the William Jolly and closer to the Kurilpa bridge. Maybe she tried to run away and there was a struggle there.

Just my speculation.

Perhaps it was from dragging her by the wrists along the ground. Would maybe explain bruises on her back too. Truly heinous. I don't envy the person who did the autopsy or the people who have to sit on the jury.

I was thinking maybe he threatened her with a syringe or tried to inject her with something...whatever he was using, make it look like an overdose??

I cant work out if that is a wound or not - if it was a wound it looks pretty severe...
Wouldn't it have left some mark of blood of something on the material?
:dunno:

.

Could it be a Tattoo ?

Not sure FigTree - yes it does look pretty severe if it is a wound. The Brisbane River was right there in front of the rotunda so I guess he could have done some 'washing up' prior to making it to the railway station. imo

Thanks xmeow - yes, that's what I was wondering, regarding that stretch of the park after passing under the William Jolly Bridge, "very dark at night" - I guess that it'd be quite a pleasant area during the day but after dark... :( They really do need to install CCTV in that section of the park. imo

If that's a wound it certainly looks nasty. What's interesting is that there are no bruises or abrasions on his knuckles and arms. Might be because it was 10 or so days later when this was taken....

There are two photos at the link below and one of them appears to show some 'damage' to his right elbow area. I cropped/enlarged the elbow area in second attached image.
