"Accused teen linked to Sydney bishop's stabbing

applies for release from custody.

A 15-year-old boy who claimed to be a friend of a teen accused of stabbing a Sydney bishop
applied Wednesday to be released from custody on bail on a charge of planning a terrorist attack.

The 15-year-old
is one of six teens, ages 14 to 17,
who were charged in a Sydney court last week with a range of offenses including conspiring to engage in or planning a terrorist act.
All remain in custody.

The 15-year-old’s lawyer,
Ahmed Dib, argued in the Parramatta Children’s Court
that Magistrate James Viney should allow his client to be released on bail
due to exceptional circumstances.

Prosecutor Rebekah Rodger opposed the bail application,
arguing the boy’s circumstances were unexceptional.

Viney will make his decision as early as Thursday."

"Teen terror plot accused

a 'mate' of Sydney bishop's stabber.

An alleged terrorism conspirator
who claimed to be mates with another teenager accused of stabbing a bishop during a live-streamed sermon
will spend at least one more night in custody before learning whether he is granted bail."

Magistrate Megan Heywood criticised "unsatisfactory" delays in the Wakeley attacker's case.

She asked why he was only recently diagnosed with schizophrenia, given his mental health had been a concern since the night of the attack.

The teenager was briefly sectioned in a mental health hospital after the stabbing.

Ms Hackett told the court mental health professionals had only been willing to provide a diagnosis since he turned 18.

This kind of thing is common, and a major problem for treatment of adolescents in NSW. Twenty years ago, I had a friend who had a daughter who was absolutely bipolar one, no doubt about it, multiple suicide attempts and psychotic episodes, multiple sectionings... and yet the psychs refused to give her a diagnosis or put her on anything other than a short term course of antipsychotic medication or mood stabilisers when she was at her worst, because she was sixteen. My friend was desperately trying to keep her alive long enough to get to eighteen, and she was having to fight the health care system every step of the way.
