I posted a few times about the half brother who was there when the police arrived, and said he'd been there before the weekend, so that would be one, apart from his mother.

That, Kakadu, is one bit of info that came to me, via MSN, it was that the kids were residing with Micheal's half sister, in Adelaide, somewhere.. Which means that the frightful mother in law would have easy access to them. For some time, the children were with friends of Tanya's and Michaels, up the outback , on a sheep station a bit further North East of Oulnina Park station. Then, it seemed, they left there and went with their paternal aunt. Half-aunt, I suppose.

( at the time, and still, that struck me as odd, why didn't the Mum of Tanya take them back to Germany ? or her brother claim custody, ( he spent a lot of time at the station, as a jackaroo during the European winter, must have had a lot to do with the kids.. )..

But there it is. This news is at least a year old..

Thank you, Trooper. So sad. The precious children have lost mother and father. Maybe Tanja's brother is not married and can not take care of the kids but I also hoped that they would grow up with Tanja's mother. I wonder if she has the chance to see her grandchildren because I doubt that the relationship between the families is good.

Her 41-year-old husband, Michael Burdon, fatally shot himself at the couple's property, Oulnina Park Station, on August 16 while police were present making inquiries into his wife's disappearance.

He remains the only suspect in relation to her suspected murder.'


and sister in law, ey?... now that is new information. Why would the sister in law, along with the husband be reporting Tanya as missing? VERY tantalizing..... Now I want to know, did the sister in law report this in from Adelaide or from up on the station , at Oulnina Park??…. That skerrick of info is new.

What we did know is that Tanya's mother in law was there, at Oulnina park when Michael returned home, with the 2 boys, without Tanya, where by they sat and said nothing for 2 days. Then we find that Micheal had actually returned to Adelaide for part of those 2 days. While mum minded the kids. Then Michael returns to Oulnina, with , perhaps his sister?.. Tanya's sister in law?...


Which means the mother, and the sister ( perhaps 1/2 sister , I am not sure, I know there were 1/2 brothers ) were there at Oulnina park when the detectives from Adelaide arrived,, after the long wait to ring them and report her missing. And she, the sister would be there for Michael's untimely exit. Also at the homestead was a half brother, whether he was the sister's brother, or 1/2 sister, I cannot figure out. Maris, the mother said the 1/2 brother was there. But no mention was made of a sister.

Something has to turn up sometime about this horrifying crime.

I always thought Tanja was reported missing by her family. Michael's sister is definitely his half sister. His brother Mark committed suicide a few years ago.

I got the distinct impression that no one of the Burdon's actually rang the Eberts.. That the police did, once Michael had shot himself , while the police were there at the sheep station. I don't think they (Michael and Maris , who had a couple of days to get a narrative going ) were prepared to say she was not actually coming home. In fact, Maris, probably still today is adamant that Tanja just 'took off'... like, into the desert, freezing cold nights, 1000klms of nothing, without even a jacket. Gone to buy another property in competition with Michael. So once the police sorted out exactly where Tanja's family was, the SA police took over telling them of her disappearance and Michael's suicide. What a call, ey?

I know the SA police arranged and paid for her family to come to AU, not the Burdon's, which has significance, but what significance I don't know yet.

And thanks for the heads up re the sister, Kakadu, now I recall that Maris came into the marriage with Old Mr Burden, with , I think 3 children, he had, I think 3, and then Maris and Old Mr B had the two boys, quite close together as they went to boarding school together while Maris took a job on the lighthouse island , counting shearwater birds. Albatrosses, petrels, etc. This was after the marriage to Old Mr B had ended. This is where her letters to the rest of the stepchildren make sense.

I was never able to find the coroners report about the younger brothers demise. And now, I do wonder if Maris was actually successful in making this a private Coroners inquest. I would have thought one would have to be the concubine of the Governor General of SA to manage that, but it is something at the back of my mind. They were/are a powerful pastoral Company/family, old South Australian money and that can shout quite loud when it wants to.

And perhaps that old South Australian sheep money may be a reason why the little boys remained in Australia, with the 1/2 sister and her family. The line must go on, sort of thing.

On the other hand, this venture with the special dog may well be at the direction of the Coroner, not willing to go to inquest unless every tiniest straw has been utilized . I like to think that is the case. That the coroner isn't accepting that her remains, and the artifacts she had on her, jewelry, her phone, a watch, maybe , would not survive in the dry desert heat, and just be waiting to be found. I heartily echo that wish.

I believe her whereabouts will be solved, sometime. Someway. He had a lot of time, whichever scenario one chooses, but his most risky one would have been to bury her while he still had the little boys in the back of the car asleep. Could still be done though, but it narrows down his possibilities.

The police went to town on the property, according to Maris, revving the bulldozer that was there to build dams, leaving all the station vehicles without fuel, etc, ….they dug here, they dug there, they emptied dams,.. that presupposes that he killed her on the way home and put the body in the boot,..or.. she actually got home, and was killed there. In that case Maris, the mysterious sister and the 1/2 brother are lying.

You can tell I am haunted by this murder. Something about her being murdered in front of her beloved little sons, shoved out onto the road way, that deserted desert road, lonely, dark, … and then the cover up.

It was only months later that the item about Michael having gone back down the highway in those 2 days he and Maris , the 1/2 brother, and the 1/2 sister, were sitting around Oulnina Park waiting for Tanja to stroll up the driveway... after her little voluntary adventure. God knows how they thought that would fly with the cynical South Au detectives ... that was a bit of info that the police didn't know for some time.

When they were in Adelaide, they withdrew $2000 ,approx. , running costs in cash for the property until their next expedition, and , in the absence of any other info, I figure that Tanja had that money in her shirt pocket, and he didn't realise this until he got home.

So he had to go back to where he hid her to get that back, because there is a record of that being withdrawn from the bank. And then he shot back up the highway to Oulnina again.

Or he could have gone into Adelaide and picked up the half sister.

Or she could have come up by the train after a shoutout from mum, the Indian Pacific can be stopped at Manna Hill with notice, and Oulnina is about 20 ks from that railstation.

Michael must have prepared for his suicide. He hid the gun in an outside shed, and there must have been a time, during the questioning by the SA Pol where he reached a tipping point. Where they were getting close, or he'd had enough of life in all it's entirety, wife, mother, sister, sons,Oulnina park, AU, but what that tipping point was is so far unknown. He excused himself , went straight to his shed and put the rifle to his forehead. While the police, his mother, his brother, his sister were gathered in the homestead meeting room.

So, unknown to us , but known to the SA Pol, though, as they have gone thru an exhaustive inquiry into all the events that day that led to the unsupervised suicide of a suspect in custody, which he was, even though he was in his own home. He was under the authority of the police until they finished their enquiries.

And the final report from that SA POL Inquiry has not been released as yet. So we are all waiting for 2 things, at least.

It seems that there is a long amount of time between Tanya's last sighting and when she was reported missing. Plenty of time to plan where to hide her and make sure she is never found. I think MIL knows more.

I’m currently in S AU for work and started near Sydney so I’ve spent a ton of time on these desolate expanses of nothingness used as highways. I think the most likely answer is that they had a tiff on the road trip since they already seemed to be removed and/or angsty when leaving the SA Museum. If she actually got out of the car in haste maybe he chased her into the bush and strangled her? That would leave little evidence on him, maybe a scratch but 8 days usually heals scratches. He left her there and then stewed on a plan on the way home, told mommy dearest he had to get back to Adelaide straight away then went to hide her. And find that rather paltry $2000.

It is curious that the SA pol could have a warrant for arrest so soon and without much biological dna evidence proving his part in her murder. Could it be sniffer dogs that picked up a death scent in the car. Will those details come out in the inquest? They can’t just strongly suspect you and arrest you on circumstance so easily here, I’m assuming?

he knew the area like the back of his hand, he had the equipment to hide Tanja anywhere. It would be a miracle if any part of her was ever found.
