Yes, the case was referred to the Coroner accurately and timely ... my opinion after following quite a lot of cases that have had Coronial Inquests.

When there is nothing more they can investigate, and when the person is considered deceased, it must be referred to the Coroner.
It must be referred within one year of a person going missing anyway - if the person is considered deceased - even if the case is actively ongoing.
Is it currently a coronial investigation or has it gone straight to inquest?

Totally agree. The location on the beach submerged in a ditch and at the end of that private bush track, the newness of the ropes (indicating purchased recently and not scavaged), the disappearance of the occupant and the untouched campsite. Big red flag weird.
I totally agree. That campsite too questionable

Why is Theo considered deceased and not simply missing?

Listen to the pod cast it’s sickening
After 4 years they opened an investigation. She had 105 bruises and died of brain failure. Like shaken baby syndrome 27 / 4 kids

Do we know for sure that was a homeless camp?

I have mentioned before the cruisers that have spoken on forums about visiting Tallow Beach and other Byron beaches to 'watch the pretty young guys surfing'. I am still not excluding Theo encountering a random and nasty cruiser. And that 'nicer' shelter may be a good beach viewing spot in the daytime.

When the Coroner gets involved they review the police brief, and send the police to investigate any additional info they want. Then it goes to inquest (eventually). There is a long waiting time for an inquest. About 1 - 1½ years usually.

Theo will likely be considered deceased because there is no phone activity, no bank activity, no contact with anyone he knows, no flight out of the country, no trace of any movements, left his passport and belongings behind, no indication of life for more than 3 months.

No worries. We can both have our own opinions.

Missing people become 'considered deceased' so that people can deal with their business affairs, pay mortgages, sell their house/car/whatever ...... so the families are not left in financial limbo.

They don't all go to inquest.
