Yes my belief is being in a river and floating with the current and hitting tree branches, rocks etc will create wounds that would accelerate decomposition. Being placed in a waterway with little movement would not have the same effect.

That's where I am coming from with that thinking.

Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said "it was very early days in the investigation, but police were of the belief Tiah’s body was left at the river, just off Kirkin Road North near Jacobs Well, rather than carried downstream from another dumping site".

I don't believe Tiah committed suicide, or accidently fell into the river. The distance from the school to where her body was found is around 33km, and even if she caught a bus, the nearest bus stop is a few kms from where her body was found.

I don't think anyone else here believes it was a suicide either.

I see what you mean.

Nevertheless, I doubt that "badly decomposed" here meant there was not much more than skeleton left and therefore clothes would come off easily. On the contrary, after a week, the body is in what is called the wet stage of decomposition. The body is bloated and has blue, yellow and black shades. Sorry to be so graphic. The bloatedness would imo make it less likely that clothes would slip off, therefore I believe she was placed in or went into the water without clothes (if reports are correct). The bloating of dead bodies also leads to their surfacing after roughly a week in the water, which is probably why she was found when she was found.

As heinous as it is to say, the fact that her naked body was left exposed in the sun for several hot and humid days can account for her body being badly decomposed.

IMO she was never in the water. It is secluded there, I think she was left there by someone familiar with the area and knew they wouldn't be sighted doing so.

Todays Gold Coast Bulletin stated that her body was found 'partially' clothed. Sorry I can't link. I saw it in the actual newspaper which is now under a paint can.

Maybe not suicide in this case. But she had a lot of indicators that could lead to suicide. I guess I don't want anyone to ever miss the signs in young people. When a young person dies from suicide, and indicators were there, maybe someone's intervention could have prevented a tragedy. It is the responsibility of all of us to help these kids. Suicide is close to my heart; sorry for raising the awareness again.

We need to try to be responsible for anyone we can help. Suicide's close to my heart also, I've fought it off for over fifty years and I'm still kicking. We all need to look out for each other.

I'm no doctor of forensics but remembering the Allison Baden-Clay and Jill Meager threads there will be certain tell tail signs of how little Tiahliegh died.

Like when Allison was found in water, forensics will be able to say if she drowned or died beforehand. With Jill Meagher forensics were able to tell that Jill was strangled because of a bone in the neck that usually breaks due to the constraint and most recently they could tell how Karlie died so many years ago.

I have a feeling our wonderful Police Force will come up trumps for Tiahleigh as well especially when she was in the water for only 6 days. (Allegedly MOOO)

it's wonderful to see some old friends here for Tiahliegh

I'm sure FSG and the Coroner's Office will come up with an answer, although it may take a while in Tiah's case.

Also, QPS is now leaving no stone unturned after the time lag reporting her as a missing person rather than a 'teenage runaway'. I think they have lost a bit of skin in the game because of that delay. It's now motivation to solve Tiah's case and bring the perpetrator(s) of any crime against her to justice.

I really feel for foster children. Often their inner world crumbles when they are taken from their families (no matter how abusive or neglectful they may be) and, although their physical needs are met, so often their psychological needs are neglected. It can lead to children looking for affection from anyone that offers it, or suffering from crushing anxiety and depression; all behind a child's innocent smile. Abused and neglected children are highly at risk, whether in their family homes or in foster care and, when missing, their disappearances should be treated with urgency every time.

btw tgy nice to see you too x

It doesn't cost anything to ask someone else 'R U OK?' We also need to teach our kids to ask that of their friends and to reach out to someone they trust if they are worried about something/someone. It's becoming so much more difficult in an age where the majority of relationships and interactions between the young are online; rather than face to face.

Sorry, the acticle read 'semi-naked body' not as I wrote previously.

This link might go some way toward answering questions on decomposition in different environments:

https://digital.library.txstate.edu/handle/10877/4078

I know that Prof Shari Forbes at UTS was setting up a 'body farm' in the Blue Mountains in NSW but I'm not sure she is doing any comparable studies at this stage.

If you're interested in searching further, the subject is taphonomy. It comes under the discipline of Forensic Anthropology.

Big hugs to you pappa rob. I'm so glad you're still kicking and here with us.

A LOGAN woman claims her child was chased while walking to school this morning...

Kirsty Schafer commented on the Facebook page of Yugumbir State School in Regents Park earlier today, saying her son was followed by two men and a young lady...

“The two men both had short facial hair and the young girl was wearing a head dress. They chased him along Waller Rd and stopped once get got (sic) to Redgum St.

Probably not related, IMO.

Probably not related, IMO.

No Rayemonde it probably isn't related but the headline of the article says a lot.

Logan woman claims her son was followed to school this morning as the community reels from the death of Tiahleigh Palmer

The community is obviously and quite understandably on high alert right now. This can only be a good thing when the incidences of innocent children being murdered, abducted, physically and sexually assaulted are on the increase. These crimes seem to be escalating in Australia at a fast rate and it is frightening.

Yes, until TP's murderer is caught, everyone should remain on high alert. Schoolies starts soon - about 30km from where TP was found. 1000's of 16-17yo's on the loose for a week. Thankfully the event is well supervised 24 hours a day.

The clumsy way the foster system responds, in the case of missing children, needs to be overhauled, as Bravehearts executive director Hetty Johnston says, and the State Government should listen to her suggestions.
Child protection laws should protect children. In this case, they didn't. Increased use of school surveillance might help too, and those schools wanting that should be demanding it now.
It's perhaps ironic that Tiahleigh is having a wider impact in death, than she did in her short life.
That shouldn't be the case. But someone, somewhere, made that happen. And it's only a matter of time before they are caught. And justice, for Tiahleigh Palmer, done.

What was thought to be a promising lead on Wednesday night ended in more frustration for detectives after hours of investigation.
story-fnihsrf2-1227606816671

Regional crime co-ordinator Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said there had been more than 300 calls to Crime Stoppers about the case and police were painstakingly investigating every tip.
“Some of the information, while probably well-meaning, has unfortunately proven to be false,” he said.
