Referring back to the bf's dog being reported missing by him up at spring creek near pd - if you go far enough up the creek its a mobile phone black spot. If you think about that in relation to alibi for the entire arvo and phone off, that would work neatly.

yes, it may be a hyundai i30 wagon.

It's quite possible that car #57 is co-operating with police, and they are interested in cars surrounding it? Just diverting attention? IDK. Can anyone recognise the make/model of this white car they have highlighted?

is car 57 shown again when we see the red jeep turning out of the corner? seems strange to highlight one car, unless the light was bad in that shot?

You can see both cars in each pic

There was a bus in that position, maybe they have already spoken to the driver. Although #33 looks like an Airport shuttle so you would think they would have found them easily enough.

Could it be possible a passenger/guest decided to stop off for a swim while the bus picked up at Port Douglas and got back on the way back?
Interesting thought about the phone pinging.

I thought it was because, if the red jeep is a focus, number 57 gets a full view of the drivers face given his (the jeep drivers) window is down.

Or the red Jeep gets a good look at car 57s driver.

I need a Valium milkshake.

People on holidays don't just suddenly decide to commit a brutal murder in the middle of the day on a stranger

You're right Rachel but you can never work out what might go on in a nutters head.

I wonder if what they're looking for is someone on a bike. Toyah was attacked some distance from either car park. If someone was prowling for a beach victim, a pushbike would have allowed him to cover good distances to find his opportunity, and also allowed a relatively quick getaway down the beach. Plus, they are asking about what may have been seen from Rex Lookout, but that seems to be a long way from where Toyah was found. It would make sense if they were looking for someone on a bike on the beach.

I think the possible items recovered at lake placid could be a weapon and / or a phone. If the murderer is known this would be good reason to try and destroy the phone as it may contain messages between him and toyah that are incriminating. I don't know what police can and can't recover from a damaged phone. You would think if they had recovered message arranging a meeting at the beach then this would be getting close to enough evidence for an arrest. Thoughts??

I don't follow...

I'm inclined to think that if they suspected one of these cars in particular, they would have broadcast a smaller number--say five or ten. Like, the Jill Meagher footage showed a handful of passers by, and I believe all but the suspect came forward; Ristevski case, footage of about five or six cars was shown. I think police are really looking for witnesses, and given the narrow time frame, witnesses to something in particular that was there to be seen where the cars would have passed.
also a culprit could be on their way south to Lake Placid area??

But they are looking for a car, but not discounting your theory...

Somehow the police knew where to look with the divers. Barron River Gorge and Lake Placid are quite big to be looking for something as small as a phone etc. Ok they looked in a few other areas too, but they actually found something. Surely they had some intel to know exactly where to dive. Car seen in area or something. Yes, just finishing off their jigsaw puzzle. One or two pieces left to place.

It might be that they are showing so many cars because they don't know who the culprit is, but Toyah's phone pings imply that he would have passed through the intersection around that time. Or, of course, maybe I'm quite wrong and they do know who they're looking at but they're employing the many-car video strategy for reasons I wouldn't know.

Did they really find something? It explains why they are looking for cars heading south, whether they found something or not? They obviously have suspicions of someone going into that area
