The 5.05pm timeframe could either correlate to the POI heading south into Cairns to dispose of evidence in the lake placid / Barron river power station area. Or it may correlate with the POI heading north out of town. What would be the optimum dashcam footage to identify a car rego or driver? Would it be of the cars heading in the same or opposite direction? I genuinely don’t know but suspect that cars heading in the opposite direction would be best as they are passing the POI’s vehicle as opposed to cars heading in the same direction, which a parts from a few cars following wouldn’t be ideal for footage.

Hi
I can think of a reason why the police have made this call. They already have a potential sighting or information about a particular POI’s vehicle on the hwy (via a witness/a, cctv, or dashcam footage) and are seeking further evidence to confirm the POI was travelling on the highway at that time via dashcam or eyewitness accounts from the vehicles identified in the released footage. If they already have a particular POI then they would have taken an account from that person as to his whereabouts that arvo/ evening, which, if he is the perpetrator trying to evade capture, no doubt falsely puts him far away for this area. If they can get further evidence to prove he was travelling in the highway at this time and it in no way accords with his account of the day then they a piece of strong evidence that brings them closer to arrest.
Yes, I agree. Maybe the footage is not clear/close enough to get plate info or identify the driver of the suspect’s vehicle and the POI has denied being in the area...
PS: Welcome Rachel9999 :)

It is just like you overheard the exact same musing going on at our place...we came to the same conclusion re: southbound & northbound traffic...
I think the heat is on...

There are two main roads leading into the Clifton Beach beach side. Clifton Beach Road, where the video of the cars appears to be, is the southern entrance. Endeavour Road is further north with a shopping centre and service station. It appears that the interview with family friends re car stickers is taken at the entrance to this shopping centre. Maybe nothing of importance in any of this, maybe they have CCTV of other areas and this is simply another area of footage. Or maybe they are seeing which cars turned off towards the beach. Why was one particular car honed in on, in the video??? I am baffled, but hopeful of an arrest VERY soon.

hmm not sure I read anything from this video apart from the distress a family was feeling
Agree, Liadan. I watched this a few times and could not find anything out of the ordinary of what could be expected from distressed family/friends.

On the other hand, personally printing so many stickers seems to me to be a bit OTT. Like it is a race to see how many they can hand out. I don't mean to sound cruel, but who cares how many they have handed out. Big thing being made about the number. And sending some overseas??? Is this the media beefing it up, or is it the group, or both???

4 white utes... and I noticed one with a kayak... anywhere you can pull in before Wangetti and kayak around? First time in ages I’m feeling a bit hopeful for that poor girl!

The fact that it's such a specific time frame makes me think they're narrowing something down!

“We believe that these drivers may hold information which is vital to the investigation moving forward,” Detective Inspector Sonia Smith told reporters (Taken from Toyah Cordingley: Police continue to search for witnesses in Cairn's murder investigation) .

Crossing fingers that this is solved soon.

They mention trucks are seen in the video too - a truck driver with a role requiring constant travel is something I hadn't considered before in this case.

Yep this seems like the Karen Ristevski case re the traffic.

I feel a result will happen, hope it's not too far off.

Depends if a sea kayak, but they are not that common. If I wanted to go kayaking, I would go to Lake Placid.

Homicide detectives have renewed their calls for information on Cairns woman Toyah Cordingley's murder.

If you were travelling along the Captain Cook Highway at Clifton Beach between 5:02pm and 5:07pm on Sunday the 21st of October and see your car in this video- please call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or call Police Link on 131 444.

In the vid, the very first car, a little red car takes off from the lights in front of No.1 vehicle....why wasn't that red car counted??

My feeling as well Tootsie.

It's interesting how tight the window of time is and the interesting fact, I found, was that I can actually work out some of those number plates, so I'm quite sure they can trace a lot of those vehicle registrations.. They are up to something more I think. Maybe putting pressure on someone.

I find it very interesting that they have been able to narrow down such a small window and such a specific location. For example Palm cove is a popular destination for tourists to stay. With it being a Sunday afternoon many people would be returning from PD after spending the day there and potentially turning off into plam cove. The police must have some strong suspension the POI continued on towards cairns as they are leaving all these potential witnesses out that would have passed wangetti at the same time. IMO the offender did not continue north and returned south.

I hope they catch the offender soon!! This tragedy really hits home for me with my twin sister and I both being toyahs age, having grown up in Cairns, spending many days at the exact same beaches and having travelled between Cairns and port hundreds of times.... it's a very strang feeling.

There was someone I had in mind, regular traveller along those routes and who potentially had contact with Toyah before her death via BSS. However that is all speculation on my part, truck driving was also something I pondered over. Regardless with this information they have released it may be that they have someone in mind and this is a way of clearly indicating to them/him we are aware of your movements and it is only a matter of time!!

There looks to be a dog hanging out of the window of number 21... or something anyway. it is the car they slow down on in the sequence, the object looks like it moves and the colouring reminds me of Toyah's dog.

Agree, but wouldn't this alert offender, unless he is under surveillance or is already in custody. One can always hope.

IMO vehicles falling before and after the numbered sequence of vehicles are already discounted as irrelevant to whatever the particular line of investigation pertains to this specific timeframe and/or section of traffic. Until we know more, read into that what you may!

It may, but even if you have been alerted, what can you do? ... run... that looks even more suspicious!

Maybe one of those cars is their POI and they're hoping that one of the cars in that sequence, has dash cam or good memory, showing the POI turning off towards Lake Placid.

There is no guarantee that the pictured cars even went by wangetti as they could have entered the highway at palm cove. Plus they are also including cars that turned on from Clifton beach so I suspect they may be looking for information on events south of Clifton ?

Yep. They didn't seem to worry about Borce seeing them drive Karen's car around in front of him.
