Having been on a jury in a murder trial, these types visits are super valuable to understand the context. For the jury, it makes it more real.

Rajwinder Singh trial for alleged murder: Visitors recount afternoon of Toyah Cordingley’s death

“A nudist tradie who frequented the beach where Toyah Cordingley was killed told his wife he needed to go “pigging to kill something” days before her death, a court has heard.

Several people who were at Wangetti Beach at different times on the day Toyah Cordingley was killed have been called to the witness box at the resumption of the trial.

A nudist tradie who frequented the beach where Toyah Cordingley was killed told his wife he needed to go “pigging to kill something” days before her death, a court has heard.

The man was named by the defence team in its opening statement among a list of “other possible killers” and now has given evidence in the trial of Rajwinder Singh, 40.”

Not sure about the DNA under the fingernails yet, but Singh was seen (around Caravonica or Lake Placid) with scratch marks on him allegedly.
Is that “stick” that’s mentioned a stick stick or a selfie stick? Toyah had a selfie stick with her didn’t she? Why would some of her stuff remain at the scene and other stuff be carried and driven away?

I was just looking back to see if the stick was the selfie stick. It doesn't sound like the same stick, as far as I can tell.

This article says Toyah's selfie stick was found on the beach not far from her body.

This article says a stick was found partially buried with Toyah.

This article says that Toyah's hat was also found near her body, and two other areas of blood were found covered up on the beach.
Emotions run high as tragic details of Toyah Cordingley death revealed

Today's article says no blood was found in or on Singh's blue Alfa Romeo. They tested with luminol.
Also that Evan McCrea was at his mother's house with his mother and his daughters on the day Toyah was murdered (his mother's testimony).
A local resident said it was not unusual for people to hunt pigs in the area and carry knives on the beach. He also sometimes saw nude men at the beach.
A blue Mitsubishi Lancer was seen in the southern car park at 4:40pm and again at 7pm by the man who was holidaying with his family.

From 28/11/2022

Singh, a nurse, had travelled to the beach that day from his home in Innisfail after a fight with his wife, he told Indian police in an interview, according to multiple local news outlets.
He said he was carrying a kitchen knife and some fruit.
Singh had become “angered” by the dog barking and allegedly “stabbed her multiple times”, Indian Express reported, citing investigators.”

As per the info in this post ^^^ I was wondering if a blue Alfa Romeo could look like a blue Mitsubishi Lancer.

2007 - AlfaBB Forum: The new Mitsubishi Lancer resembles the Alfa 156 in a lot of ways

2018 - Giulia Forum: The Giulia is almost like a slightly softer, more luxurious, better looking Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

I hope this is pointed out at the trial. Depending on what model Alfa Romeo Singh had, of course.

imo
Singh’s is an Alfa Romeo 156

It’s Car #37 in the police car video.

You have to wonder if he has retracted that statement, or if it has been deemed as inadmissible. Because the defence is throwing every possibility that Toyah was murdered by someone else at this case.

As stated in Marg944's post just above, the linked article states that the nudie tradie was named as one of the 'other possible killers' by the defence.

The man was named by the defence team in its opening statement among a list of “other possible killers” and now has given evidence in the trial of Rajwinder Singh, 40.

So why did Singh run and who was he running from?
If innocent and terrified, why would he physically, economically and emotionally abandon his vulnerable and dependent wife and three young kids?

I agree with you. I just wonder if the defence is going to be able to create reasonable doubt ... if Singh's earlier confession hasn't been allowed as evidence for some reason.

I guess the defence could say he abandoned them because he is a jerk (but not a killer). And I think some of his extended family was still here (maybe his mum?) and she could help. Because I think his father also returned to India, didn't he?

There’s no reporting of NT being on Wangetti beach, or in the beach car park or even in the general area on that day though is there? The closest he went, according to reports, is from Cairns to Smithfield and back.

Whereas there’s evidence that Singh was at Wangetti and that his departure route aligned with the path Toyah’s phone took.

Yeah ... I can't really play devils advocate here. But I have been reading the Cairns Post articles, and it sounds as if the defence is throwing a lot at 'someone else did it'. They have a list of possibles. Nudie tradie is only one of them.

Presumably they have some story about Singh 'found' Toyah's phone, he 'threw a stick', he must have 'laid on the beach where Toyah's blood was without realising it'. Then dumped his wife because he had already told her he was going to divorce her. IDK

Is it enough to convince one or two jury members? I hope not.

Yeah I know what you’re saying. Personally I think the million dollar reward demonstrates the prosecutions confidence and it will cross the line. Otherwise the arrest was a very expensive gamble.

Rajwinder Singh trial for alleged Toyah murder: Conflicting evidence on school teacher’s movements

“A DNA sample taken from a stick in Toyah’s Cordingley’s shallow sand grave was 3.7 billion times more likely to be Rajwinder Singh’s, a court has been told.”

Conflicting evidence heard on school teacher's movements

“A school teacher, Remy Fry, who was named by the defence team in a list of alternative suspects at the start of the Toyah Cordingley murder trial, said he visited his mother and friends in Wangetti on October 21, 2018.

But one of the friends he said he visited, Peter Lincoln, told the court he did not see Mr Fry that day.”

The reward was for finding him in India only. Not dependent on any outcome in court. That is why it's been paid out.

A reward can’t influence a court outcome.
My point was that the Qld Police offered the largest reward in Qld history and that suggests that they feel very confident and think it’s money well spent.

“In December 2018, the Queensland government and Australia's High Commissioner to India announced the $1 million reward for information leading to Singh's arrest. The reward is the largest offered in Queensland history.”

To me, it suggests a heinous crime and they wanted to find him. The money achieved that. No-one is suggesting it will influence any decision. Usually rewards are for a conviction. This time they just wanted to find him.

Photos of boyfriend did not show signs of manipulation, expert says

“Photos of Toyah Cordingley’s boyfriend Marco Heidenreich on the afternoon she died did not show signs of manipulation, according to a digital forensics officer who examined them.”

DNA from Toyah's fingernails likely to be Rajwinder Singh's, court hears

“Testing carried out in a New Zealand laboratory has found DNA from Toyah Cordingley’s right fingernails was 310 times more likely to be Rajwinder Singh’s than a person in the general population, the court has been told.”

Rajwinder Singh's clothes had no trace of Toyah's DNA

“The shorts and shirt that Rajwinder Singh was filmed wearing on CCTV footage earlier on the day Toyah Cordingley died contained no trace of her DNA, the Cairns Supreme Court has been told.

The court was told the clothes were taken by police from Mr Singh’s home three weeks after Ms Cordingley’s death.

More than 12 tape lifts and swabs were taken from the grey shorts and striped shirt, and these showed a very high likelihood of Mr Singh’s DNA being present, but not of Ms Cordingley’s, the court was told.

Mr Parry said his team had also tested samples obtained from the laundry tub and washing machine at Mr Singh’s house.

“Rajwinder Singh was excluded from having contributed to that DNA and there was no suggestion of a contribution from Ms Cordingley?” Mr Edwards asked, to which Mr Parry replied “yes”.”

The article doesn’t actually clear up the possibility that Singh’s clothes had already been washed before being forensically tested, seeing as his clothes were collected for testing 3 weeks after the murder took place. I would assume they would have been washed after 3 weeks?

BBM : I happy to hear that the DNA testing was done in a lab in NZ & not the troublesome QLD DNA lab!!

His wife was asked about this when testifying ….

Under cross examination by Ms Bilic, Ms Kaur told the court she had not washed the clothes Mr Singh was wearing the last day she saw him, nor had she noticed any injuries to his face, hands, arms, neck, legs or body.
