Australia- Two sisters in their 20s found dead inside Sydney unit had been there lengthy time, Suspicious deaths, June 2022

I can explain it two-fold.

1) after all, they were very young adults who probably were raised in a strict atmosphere, so staying up all night is a “teenage” behavior. Especially if they were night owls. (I am.)

2) if they were afraid of someone attacking them, then of course if would make sense to be awake at night; but this would not explain the tendency to fill in car at night, though.

They may have had all manner of reasons for being active in the night time - their employment? Or online study groups or socialising online with people in a different time zone? Also depending on how much they had internalised the strict rules of the faith practised in their own country, being looked upon by a man or being out without a male chaperone could feel shameful to them and they may have avoided going to places or out at times of day when many other people are around. I know of people who are uncomfortable to go places knowing that cctv is being monitored (by men).

Modern apartments tend to have all the utilities isolated for health and safety reasons, to prevent the spread of fire or fumes or gases. Older buildings don't and can be 'pre-regulation'. Legionnaire's disease can spread rapidly around large office blocks and institutional buildings via the air ducts.

If these young women had a gas boiler or gas heating and it was cold weather (as has been confirmed) then despite their complex history, my biggest suspicion is carbon monoxide poisoning as it's so common and kills people exactly in this manner - at night asleep in bed :( A death from carbon monoxide can be detected at post mortem however, in this situation, who knows due to the time gone by. Also it can be detected from examining and checking the equipment for leaks - or rather, improper fumes venting, but a landlord would want to cover that up really quickly if it happened.
You might be right about a heater.
Coming from a hot weather country, they probably were freezing and used additional source of heat.

I have a friend from Tunisia and she is always shivering with cold while the rest of us are wearing tshirts.

I wonder if they studied online (covid restrictions).

It was said they rarely left the apartament and only went to this petrol station - several times a day!

Also, it was reported that they parked their car in the wrong place.
What does it mean I wonder?
Did they park on somebody else's place?

It's definitely common to have a car keyed if parking in someone else's spot or blocking a driveway or access.

I lean this way too. It could have been a slow leak, taking its toll over time. They would have gotten a reprieve by going out but, cumulatively, their health would have been deteriorating.

So them buying petrol at night makes sense.
They didn't want to be spotted.
This case really got to me.
Very sad.
The girl’s name Asra means “nocturnal journey” (from Arabic “ʾisrāʾ/إِسْرَاء”) and “travel at night” (from Arabic “ʾasrā/أَسْرَى”).

The girl’s name Amaal means آمال “hopes, longings and expectations” plural use…

Agree. Energy drinks are often used to curb appetite. I think they may have been fearful of eating at times. I also wonder about their drive for studying. If they were in their beds/bedroom, were any books or study materials found within their surroundings?
Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if the girls had developed a mild dependency on the energy drinks? I know it’s a recognised problem which brings its own health issues. I don’t think this would have caused their deaths at all, but it may explain the frequent visits to the service station and night time hours.

Did the A & A sisters ever manage to get in contact with these helpful women, did they stay up all night keeping in contact with someone living in a different time zone? Just noticed that the other set of sisters are a D&D. fwiw, speculation, imo.

2019
''The recent high-profile getaways of other Arab women — Saudi Arabia's Rahaf Mohammed, Dubai princess Sheikha Latifa, and Saudi sisters Maha and Wafa al-Subaie — almost thwarted their plan. They said their family was on high alert, attuned to the possibility.

After making their escape, the sisters then reached out to an online network of Saudi women for help.

"I told them that I am on the street. I don't have any place to go … and they helped me," Dua said. "They know people in Turkey and they [gave] me their contact."

Dua and Dalal have been hiding in Istanbul for 50 days. After making their escape, they relied on an online network of Saudi women for help finding a safe house. (DuaDalal/Twitter)
The sisters have been holed up in Istanbul ever since, taking to social media to publicize their plight and campaign for asylum in Canada.

Dua and Dalal spend most of their time indoors and move frequently for fear their father will find them and forcibly bring them back to their home country. Turkey is one of a handful of countries that Saudis can travel to without a prior visa.

"He will never stop looking for us, so he can clear the shame," said Dalal.''

Signs point to growing paranoia and a suicide to me. Afraid to eat, because they feared their food was being tampered with. Huddled in corner during wellness check. Seems these two may have delusions of danger (or maybe there was a real danger we don’t know about yet) and ultimately got so afraid to even leave their apartment for food. Moo

Hmmm...

Can a normal, mentally healthy person suddenly develop paranoia/mental illness?
And 2 people at the same time?

Granted, if the illness is "hidden", it can manifest itself in special circumstances, like attacks of schizophrenia.

But to suddenly develop severe mental illness leading to suicide?

I really don't know.

Yes, indeed they can.
Folie a deux. Shared delusions. It's powerful and can happen to people who seem normal with no prior mental health diagnosis.
Here's a good example:

I notice that the article with the almost victim-blaming tone about them becoming atheists at one point refers to them as "brothers" which makes me suspect it's been machine translated from Arabic.

It's entirely believable that girls like this might initially be attracted to someone because of common culture but then at a certain point become afraid of them because of that exact same common culture.

I doubt the guy killed them though, especially considering the (few) facts we do know. However, he may have been a big factor contributing to mental illness.

We need someone speaking Arabic, to explain, because when I fed “brother” and “sister” to the translator, I got two totally different words in Arabic.
(Unless the original article uses the word that is neither?)
In short, I don’t understand how they came up with “brother”, given that the words for brother and sister in Arabic are different.

It suddenly hit me.
They were almost teenagers. Used Twitter. What about gaming, discord? They liked to chat to their friends back home, what about modern social media?

Also, maybe if they thought their food was being tampered with it's because they'd been having signs of feeling unwell. I've been affected by carbon monoxide due to a broken vent from a restaurant below my old apartment. I'd been feeling oddly tired and slightly nauseous on and off for a long time before realising what the problem was.

Maybe the word was something like 'siblings' and it has come out as 'brothers' on a translater app?

@Dotta, it may be individual metabolism.

I know people from India who tolerate cold climate worse than me. I grew up in cold climate, and I hate cold but am OK with heat waves.

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine years ago. She felt unwell for quite a long while. The leak was small, not fatal, but enough that she didn't feel good & it had an adverse effect on her health. She would get a reprieve when she would leave her home because she wasn't being exposed to the carbon monoxide. But, if she was at home for a day or more, she would start feeling sicker again. Eventually, the small leak was discovered & fixed & she suddenly felt so much better.

Anyway, it makes me wonder if there wasn't something like that going on?

As for untouched food deliveries, I could see them ordering something, knowing they needed to eat. Perhaps it was delivered in a common area for pick-up (esp. during covid) but then would not get picked up by either woman & others from the apartment complex noticed delivery food being left in the common area more than once? By the time something was delivered, perhaps neither of them felt well enough to go down the hall/elevator or whatever to get the bag of food (especially if they had been at home awhile, possibly feeling more tired/sickened from a carbon monoxide leak)?

It just seems odd to me that two adults can die in their separate bedrooms & there are not obvious signs of anything (even though it was a bit before they were discovered).

Tell you what...

2 teachers from Italy came to visit our school in April (in Poland/mild weather).

And guess what?

They were wearing FUR COATS o_O

Mind you - they lived in a flat above a take away restaurant too.

It was reported in one of the links here.

Oh gosh my theory is getting backed up more and more. Wonder what sort of construction the premises is and if there's dodgy venting / extractors. In the case of my apartment, the place below was cooking with gas all day and night with lots of oil, they had ducting tubes running in their ceiling space that had disconnected below my floor which was only wooden floorboards with carpeting. So, the whole thing was a health and safety nightmare and fire risk but it was in the winter when I had all my windows closed that I became unwell.
