Witnesses living at Avalon Apartments on the Gold Coast describe moment they saw Warriena Wright fall from Gable Tostee’s unit

September 09, 2014 12:00AM

ONE moment she was above them, the next she was gone.

Horrified neighbours of Gold Coast playboy Gable Tostee have described the moment they saw Warriena Wright fall to her death from his 14th floor apartment.

In documents filed in the Supreme Court, residents living below Tostee’s Avalon Apartments home have described waking to the sounds of furniture crashing, heavy objects being dropped and a woman shouting “no, no, no”.

In an interview with police, Emily Ellis, who lives two floors under Tostee, said she walked out to her balcony after hearing “thudding and scuffling’’ from above

OMG .. how horrible for these two neighbours .. and for poor Warriena!! Even the neighbour two floors down could hear the furniture crashing!

"All I could see of her was her legs. One minute she was above me and then the next she was in front of me and then she was on the ground down the bottom.

I saw her fall all the way.”

2 witnesses heard thudding and scuffling, both from their balconies could only see Warreina's legs dangling and then witnessed her fall.
GT phoned his lawyer not the police. He then left the apartment and recorded a phone call he made to his father, saying among other things I didn't push her.
I am leaning very much toward him being on that balcony.

I've always thought it looked bad how long it took for him to call the police.

Now that the transcripts of the recording have been released, it looks even worse.

If he is innocent and just wanted her removed from the apartment, he really should have called the police much earlier.

Maybe Tostee could have cut out a section of the audio clip to make it sound like he wasn't on the balcony when in fact he was?
It doesn't make sense that the loud bangs weren't heard on the audio.. unless they were?

To my way of thinking he did exactly what he said he didn't.

Why else say it?

I was also surprised by the number of posters here, who presumed guilt based on sex.

And, created a fantasy of bondage, male domination, pre-meditation, all based on the LITTLE that we have so far been fed by police reports.

To my mind (and a few earlier posters here) this simply was something that went terribly wrong due to bad decisions by both of these young people. Affected by alcohol, in the wrong place, vulnerable.

Accidents happen. Avoidable tragedies happen. Why do we have to find someone to "blame" when it might simply have been, a combination of bad circumstances.

If it happens to be proved that GT was directly responsible for this dear girl's death, then I would cheer. But I am afraid that he was just a dumb sex/ego driven kid who will probably never even recognise what part he played in her death.

Hi nowvoyager.

I personally am not basing anything just on the police reports. I'm basing it on what Tostee himself has posted all over social media - combined with msm, and the police reports.

You only have to read a little of his posts to the other guys on the bb forum to discover that he has a history of denigrating and manipulating women. He has also posted photos, audio and footage of them online without their knowledge (that he has secretly taken in his apartment), all in an effort to ridicule them.

Then there are all the reports (from different people) of him being banned from clubs for harassing women and also stalking the drunkest ones at the end of the night (whilst he has stayed on water). He displays alot of predatory behaviour imo.

But hey, we don't have to agree. I just wanted to point out that such a POV is based on more than just police reports.

Retiree Gabriele Collyer-Wiedner, who lives directly under Tostee, woke around 2am to what sounded like furniture crashing on the floor.

“After a little time there was a really loud bang from the unit above. It sounded like something really heavy being dropped on the floor,’’ she said.

“A short time after that I heard a female person shout the words ‘no, no, no’.”

Ms Collyer-Wiedner told police she stepped out to the balcony to see two legs dangling down.

“The person did not say anything and neither did I,” she said. “In a matter of seconds I saw the person fall from the balcony above mine … I screamed when the person was falling and I think that the person screamed as well.”

How simple it is concluded that GT is a kid. He is 28 years of age, and invites a guest (26) to his 14th floor apartment. Regardless of bad decisions made by either of these adults, he has a responsibility for his guest in his residence, to the other tenants and the body corporate to keep them safe, and she (his guest) has a reasonable expectation to be kept safe in the environment she is invited into.

It is understandable he does not call police when things start to go badly in his unit, he is on bail at the time for charges levelled by police. It is not reasonable that he suggested he would "throw her from the balcony". It is not reasonable he would be interrupting her breathing or choke her to restrain her. It is not reasonable that if pushed on to the balcony, to be pushed with enough force to go over the top of the railing. It stands to reason that she has either climbed or has been specifically lifted above the rails.

Regardless, GT is not a kid he is an adult, has been an adult for a long time, and had a far greater responsibility to everyone around him than he has accepted. Not taking responsibility should not be mistaken for innocence, he is responsible even when he has neglected his obligation to act responsibly.

some fresh info in above link...

The Sony phone data — which is yet to be forensically examined — also showed two calls being made to Ms Wright’s phone.

An audio recording from the same device, which runs for more than three hours, appears to follow a panicked Tostee as he phones and then is picked up by his *father Gray Tostee at Circle on Cavill.

When his father doesn’t arrive after a few seconds, Tostee phones him back saying “Hey dad, are you nearby? I’m seriously freezing”.

When he arrived, the man can be heard to say: “Gable, we need to ring Bill Potts up straight away.”

The record shows that Tostee instead called Ms Wright’s number again.

“I hope I just imagined it,” he tells his father.

8.48pm - Mr Tostee and Ms Wright enter the Surfers Paradise Tavern Beer Garden, before leaving and purchasing a six-pack of Tooheys Extra Dry from a nearby BWS bottleshop.

0.24am - Six photos are taken on Mr Tostee's balcony with a Canon A550 camera.

3.25-3.34am - The pair continue to talk. The male repeatedly says he did not cause the woman's death. Dad agrees to drive and pick the male up.

3.47am - Another call is placed to Mr Tostee's father. A sound of a car door opening and seatbelt being put on is heard. Dad tells the male they "need to ring Bill Potts". (Mr Potts runs the law firm representing Mr Tostee.) Dad offers to take the male to hospital, but he declines. Dad identifies "Gable" as the male on the recording.

4.07-4.15am - The pair discuss where Dad will park the car. Gable says it should be stopped in a residential area and not a shopping centre because "they will do patrols".

Me too!

Those poor witnesses - that is a seriously traumatic event to see. I hope they've got good support for themselves.

3.10am - Male orders pizza. "Um a piece of supreme please," he says.

I know it's only trivial, but for those wondering how he ordered a pizza from dominos when it closes at 2 a.m., he more than likely got a slice of pizza from one of the many "pizza oven" shops in Surfers. It's $1-$2 a slice.

He ordered pizza before he called his father. It just blows my mind that he could eat after what just happened......

2.28am - CCTV cameras capture a male, believed to be Mr Tostee, approach the front entrance of the apartment. He walks back to the elevator and rides to the basement.

2.29-3.08am - Sounds of walking are heard in the audio recording, which is still going from earlier in the night.

3.10am - Male orders pizza. "Um a piece of supreme please," he says.

3.23am - Call is placed to Mr Tostee's father, Gray Tostee.

I reckon he wanted more time with her. Wanted her to sober up a bit and have his way with her some more. He had the chance to let her go, instead he manipulated her onto the balcony where she had only a few options. Beg to his mercy. Sleep/freeze out on the balcony. And, unfortunately, the reality of what happened on that night.
