I'm highlighting this fact because rapists and murderers are often triggered by an emotionally traumatic event in their life.

His mother is away and his grandfather has died - and he is the 'saddest he's ever felt'.

That rings alarm bells for me.

With someone as psychologically unstable as him, I would expect him to react very badly to an external stressor such as that.

The question is;

When she climbed over the balcony did she fear for her life and had no choice but to get away from him or did she simply misjudge the effort required to climb to the balcony below, while continuing her ninja game?

I'm pretty sure ninjas don't call the police, or beg to go home.

I appreciate a different POV, and aussiegirl also provided one. There's no doubt Warriena was wasted (on that home made vodka...pure spirit?.. he kept pouring for her) and was beahving like a drunk. But Tostee sounds like he was in full control, the whole time. He manipulated the whole interaction, took his trophy pics for his forum.. but where things get very sinister IMO is his repeated edging the conversation toward death and the balcony, his statements like "where's my money" (reminiscent of 'she stole my wallet - but DID she? - from a former recording) and all the other instances where he's very clearly speaking for the sake of the recording, at one point as if to a third party, and instead of calling her a cab and packing her off home, encouraging Rrie to stay while continuing to manipulate her.

eta: never mind exerting control over her ability to go (or call police), by withholding her phone etc. He was in full control of the situation, and clearly gets veyr very upset when he thinks he is not... as pointed out by Prime Suspect and others.

I thinking the POV aussiegirl put forward is *exactly* what he was after, by making all those comments. That's what he wanted -- for Rrie to sound like an utter psycho, and himself to be blameless. Well, I don't he think he was. I think he's wholly culpable.

A thought on the 'DNA' comment -- he is, as remarked, careful to state that he is the one injured. He's saying "where's my money" and all other other "poor me" stuff... I don't think that was part of any 'game'. I think that was him making sure *he* would look the victim (of violence and robbery) if she did indeed call the cops. And by stating it aloud, he's expressing his sense of control.

I'm even wondering if he slipped her a mickey at the pub - she is clearly not that into him.. wants to go.. but agrees to go home with him a moment later? Unless she was already legless drunk when he got there, or a complete idiot (she was not) then it just seems very strange to me that she is so very pliant up until the 2am mark and she starts getting very scared indeed.
