Alcohol is very heavily taxed in Australia. So if you were dependent on it, it can be a very expensive habit. If the accused is drinking 500ml-1Litre a night, well that would be costing him alot of $$$ from the shop

So do most Australians Suthrnqt I've never known anyone who makes homemade alcohol other than beer. I know some people who have recipes for home made drinks like Tia Maria and Bailey's - but neither involve any brewing from scratch. I've whipped batches of Bailey's Irish Cream (takes about 10 minutes) to bottle and give as gifts before - it's yummo.

There was an incident last year where 3 Australian men died and 1 other came close from drinking home made spirits. Unlike beer, you really need to know what you are doing.
