Just heard about this ^^^ on the morning news - happened on Saturday night, reported to police on Monday, according to Ch7 morning news. She woke up in a strange place, was able to get out and get away, thinks she was assaulted by up to 4 men.

Very frightening and sad and maddening that two Kiwi girls have now been harmed by using Tinder in Australia.

Sydney gang rape: Tinder responds, ‘We are deeply saddened’

October 09, 2014 2:45PM

TINDER says it’s “deeply saddened” a user was sexually assaulted by several men and will co-operate with sex crimes detectives hunting the rapists.

The spotlight is on the popular dating app after the pack rape of a New Zealand woman in Sydney at the weekend.

Since then police have warned dating app users to be on alert and exercise caution but a Tinder spokeswoman has distanced the company from the controversy.

Detective Inspector Michael Haddow, of the NSW Sex Crimes Squad, warned sexual predators were using technology to select their victims.

“It’s absolutely vital that people using dating websites and apps remember that how a person portrays themselves on the internet can be very different from their real life persona,” he said.

“With this in mind, we strongly advise people that if they decide to meet a person they have been introduced to via the internet, then ensure the meeting is in a public place and take a friend along with you.”

Balcony fall murder accused Gable Tostee will remain in jail for at least another month

GABLE Tostee will stay in jail for at least another month as he fights multiple charges in two states.

Lawyer Kate Clark, of Robertson O’Gorman Lawyers appeared for Tostee in Southport Magistrates Court for the first time this morning after Michael Purcell of Potts Lawyers formally withdrew his representation.

Tostee is due to face court in Tweed Heads on November 10, and Ms Clark asked that the Queensland charges be heard after those were resolved.

Lawyers for balcony murder accused Gable Tostee demand police hand over evidence

She asked Magistrate Kerry McGee to order police to deliver key parts of the case within two weeks.

The order, which was granted, involved the delivery of transcripts from the audio recordings and other analysis from Tostee’s mobile phone as well as a copy of Ms Wright’s autopsy report and more than 50 witness statements.

The rest of the police brief must be delivered by November 14.

Tostee had been scheduled to make an appearance by video link but his presence was excused.

The case will be mentioned again on January 12.

He was also ordered to reappear on January 12 on a number of unrelated charges, including drink driving, obstruct police and public nuisance.

Last month, transcripts of an alleged tape recording of Ms Wright's final hour and a half in Tostee's company were tendered to the court during his bail application in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The application, which has been adjourned to allow the accused's defence team to compile a report on Tostee's mental state and alleged autism, has yet been given a date to resume.

Details of the transcript, which Tostee's new legal representatives described as 'prejudicial' and a 'threat to justice' in the murder case, included what prosecutors claimed were 'sounds consistent with the deceased being held down and her airway restricted'.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-ti...ostees-lawyer-demands-balcony-plunge-evidence

News website the Courier Mail has reported that in court today, Tostee's lawyer asked the sitting magistrate to order police to provide transcripts and analysis from an audio recording retrieved from the accused's mobile phone. The lawyer also asked for a copy of Wright's autopsy report and more than 50 witness statements.

Transcripts of the recording made shortly before Wright's death were previously leaked to media and are alleged to contain audio of Tostee repeatedly asking Wright to stop hitting him. The transcripts also allegedly contain conversation between the pair about the Kiwi woman's family, religion and God and detail audio of arguments leading up to her fall.

So... which is it then? Weren't there previous comments/reports made about the fact that the defence legal team should also have access to the transcript for the audio recording as part of the entire bail application process? According to this article, they have not been given the transcripts by the police and are now applying for the Police to hand them over. So they actually had to ask the magistrate to order police to provide transcripts from the audio recording? Puzzled as to why the media gets to have "access" to the transcripts and were having a party with it churning out the various "versions". But NOT the defence team somehow.

Dunno guys, I think I am over the stupidity of this, and sigh... might bang my head on the wall a bit. :gaah:

Yes... only thing I can think of is that she does not want to go through the whole ordeal of enduring the trauma of a court case. Who knows. You don't "make up" a story of being gang raped.

I agree Slinki. Unfortunately so many women drop their charges/retract their statements as the ordeal of going through a rape trial is HUGE. They still dig up the victim's sexual history and try to drag them through the mud.

Marly pointed out earlier in the thread that it was only a partial transcript that was available for the bail hearing ... and so available to police, the court and the defence ... and to the media (and others) to purchase.

So the defence want the whole transcript, as they are entitled to have.

But, with the recording not being on the original device, it may be that the police are trying to resurrect the recording from the original recording device - if/when they identify that, if they have not done so already - and get the real whole transcript (that may be part of what the 5 months to get all the evidence may be about).

Google "gang rape false report".

I certainly would never make up such a thing. You wouldn't. But there's people out there who do it. And I wish they were charged and given jail time for it.... they do such incredible harm, not only to the victims they accuse, but to genuine rape victims as well.

Of course, a lot of women also drop charges out of fear, but false reports DO exist.

As tensions emerged between Tostee's new legal team and investigators, police said rushing the presentation of the brief of evidence would be 'setting the prosecution up to fail'.

Lawyers for Tostee complained on Friday about police delays in gathering evidence, as detectives said they were still seeking overseas witnesses and evidence in the murder case of 26-year-old Warriena Wright, who allegedly fell to her death from Tostee's high rise Surfers Paradise apartment on August 8.

Defence lawyer Kate Clark told Magistrate Kerry Magee in Southport Magistrate's Court she was 'seeking explanations for the delay' in police putting together their case against Tostee. Ms Clark said examining the electronic evidence against Tostee alone could delay the case by four to five months.
