Hi all:greetings:,
I tend to be onside with many posters here. Hope you don't mind me jumping off your post Ausgirl, I have read yours with interest.
What puzzles me a bit with this young man is his obvious intelligence, but apparent lack of personal insight.

He appears to get stuff on an intellectual basis but cannot fathom his effect on people, or maybe doesn't care.
He almost can't help it, there's a point to be made and he must be right. He does not appreciate opposition.

The dynamics in their house must be interesting, I think mum has a powerful position and she has clearly made her thoughts known to him. She expects him to be a disaster and he is...imo
He really can't help himself. There's a number of diagnostic criteria he could fit, but I'm pretty sure we would all agree one stands out. I would like to know more about his early life, which will no doubt be raised in sentencing reports. imo

Thanks for the interesting post, Gecko100.

Our good friend IsisRising made an interesting observation, way back in Thread 1.

His behaviour must be so disappointing for his family, he has brought dreadful shame on them. I hope he doesn't have nieces and nephews, the G.C. is a small place, poor kids/brother/mother and extended family. This is world wide news, and whatever the outcome he's toast publicly. No-one seems to be jumping up and down saying 'no you got it wrong he's a lovely guy', quite the opposite actually.
Would you give him a job now or in the future?
What a waste of a half-decent brain.

Thanks for that, we are thinking much the same.

It was actually Warriena who said that about her own mother.

According at least two news sources, it was Gable who said this. He (male voice) told Warriena that she can help him lay carpet and help him tell his mum that he is not a loser.
Where did you read that it was the other way round? Please provide link.

Not true.

"Former girlfriend Lauren Midgley told Nine News that she didn't think he was a bad person.

“He invited me into his apartment and everything,” she said.

“[He] made me a drink and we just chatted and was always really nice and never, never horrible to me or pressured me in any way.

“I don’t think he would ever, ever hurt a girl. I never got that impression.”"

Oops too many in a row? lol
There's absolutely no point in arguing with this young man. He will nitpick obsessively for precision - must be part of the disorder. The other issue for him is that he is a concrete thinker so has major difficulty seeing the big picture, which is really obvious reading his posts. He gives an awful lot away about himself, but is so un-self aware he can't even see it. imo

BBM: Absolutely correct, Gecko100. It is usually best to sit back and let the identities talk to each other, as they do - and just converse around them. :)

I notice today that one has been banned from MDS, and one has been put on extended TO. Which is very unfortunate for us, at the moment.

Lol I know. Descriptions of symptomatic illnesses are available around the net. OCD is a very serious disorder often characterized as anxiety driven, to keep repeating an action or behaviour. Being a concrete thinker is not an illness or judgement. (for those unsure)
When I have read Mr. Tostee's posts, I have formed opinions. He doesn't have to like them I'm not writing for him, it's a forum and that's what we do.
I imagine that if somebody posted so obsessively and precisely, he might notice it too. How come he doesn't?

This is a great post!!! Spot on, Gecko100, you are absolutely correct!

On Wednesday, one scientific officer, a police photographer and a fire officer went up in the bucket of a cherry picker to collect fibres, human remains and DNA from the outside of the 14th and 13th floor balconies.

I remember reading the police did a re-enactment from the balcony but I dont recall seeing the above.

Oh ... poor Warriena. :(

I don't remember seeing those details before either.

IT sounds as though people with OCD are just driven to keep doing whatever it is that alleviates/satisfies their obsessions ... no matter what.

"Compulsions are also called "rituals" because most people feel like they have to do them in a very precise way, and they cannot rest until they've been done properly. So instead of performing compulsions just once, people with OCD repeat these behaviours over and over until they are satisfied that danger has been averted, or until the anxiety and distress is reduced."

Happy Australia Day, everyone!

:australia:

Hope that you enjoy a few drinks with your mates, if that is what you want, and enjoy watching the fireworks after dark.

Hope you have a great year, too!

Ohhh Happy Australia Day! Cheers to all of my wonderful Aussie friends from here in Texas! :loveyou:

I will refrain from commenting further as all I have to go with is what I read in the news. If what the both of you (Bicept and Celest) are claiming is true, ie. the transcribers had it wrong then all of it will be flushed out in Court. I await patiently and I am also fully aware that there are so many gaps to fill still. I am fully expecting that forensic transcription experts will be working on a final transcription that can be deemed submissible in Court.

Either way, whichever one of them voicing out loud that his/her Mum's thinking them a loser has no real bearing on the real issue we are discussing on this forum ie. the extent of GT's culpability toward WW's resultant fatal plunge.

IT certainly does seem as if those afflicted with the compulsion to complete certain rituals which simply cannot be altered regardless of the circumstance could certainly be identified as being OCD.

Hoarding and collecting are also part of OCD which is, to be kind, a 'processing disorder'.

IT is an interesting observation that you make, possum. Makes me wonder if continually adding notches to the bedpost are part of it all too. He was very obsessed with bedding more and more women/girls, as evidenced on the bb forum. If he was having a 'bad' week or two in his conquest rate, he would lament about it to everyone.

  • #257
That's a reasonable question. There's definitely a quality of hoarding to his conquests (if they in fact exist, we only have his unreliable word) and who would admit to it? lol

I wonder what his position is regarding human waste?

  • #258
Well that didn't take too long, could we think we got some hot-spots?

  • #259
Yes it's like anxiety displacement, he needs the repetition to manage the anxiety. imo
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the obsessive posting provides the same 'relief', but it won't, it will cause him more anxiety because nobody is precisely correct enough for him. imo

I just realised, it was a year ago that Tostee was arrested for assaulting and obstructing police, then he continued going downhill from there.

"On January 27 this year Mr Tostee was allegedly involved in an incident in Surfers Paradise which saw him charged with assault police, obstruct police and public nuisance offences."
