i cant really imagine williams grandmother even thinking about the washing machine that week. wasnt she so distressed she went and stayed elsewhere, i think they would all be sick with worry and not thinking "life goes on" practicalities
what day was bs vehicle spotted by msm amongst the emergency vehicles?

You're right - it would be the last thing on GM's mind, but BS would be top of the suspect list (after bio and f/ parents were cleared). He had been there, he knew family and kids were expected, he was due to re-visit to fix the machine. I'd want him back ASAP to see if he acted like "life goes on".

yes, true, it could have been a police strategy, he was on their radar pretty quickly.
if he was back to fix it, i wonder if he spoke to family, he must have seen their distress, just another creepy moment to add to the list if hes guilty!

Yeah, I was going to add that. I hardly think GM would think to call back about the washing machine. I did read that she went to stay elsewhere. Why wouldn't you with the police and media trampling your property? Maybe she did call him back, but I can't imagine it.

The only details I have read about when the van was spotted are, "in the days after the disappearance". From all the articles I've read I have the impression it was somewhere between Day 4 - Day 7.

I actually think it was initially sleuthed here. It was soon after the disappearance that the journalist commented on the van, because they were commenting on the surroundings. Months later when a POI was named, we were looking back over old articles and someone pointed out the mention of a repair van at the search. MSM was onto it within a couple of days after that with articles about how the van was seen at the search.

My opinion only - this was someone wanting to place themselves in the middle of all the action. Also convenient to have another excuse for any DNA found there.

All these questions and ideas about BS still.... If it was bs then why the billboards? I'm not saying it's not him but the billboards have really made me question that theory.

There is still the possibility that BS passed William onto someone else.

Not disagreeing at all just wondering if that's the case what are they looking for? Someone else with him at a servo or something? Someone local hiding him? It just to me does not fit the abduction by BS theory.... But maybe like they say it's just one line of inquiry. I don't know how much the police really know.

The billboards could be to place more pressure. I have a funny feeling that something is at play here. The aim of the game being to find William above all else, moreso than arrests, etc.

The billboards seem to be getting placed relatively close to Kendall area rather than say Sydney or qld which I find strange/interesting.

We have had a 8 year old child approached in Laurieton yesterday afternoon. A man tried to coerce a boy into his car and said he had something special for him at the local football oval. Very brazen as there was people around as there was football, soccer and netball training happening. The boy was able to describe the male and his car

I very much doubt that BS invited himself to do the washing machine repair with police there guilty or not, if my house was for sale and my washing machine needed repair, I would just get it done, especially if she was moving in with family, she would need to sell or give it away or take it with her.
If I was the police, I would be calling him in and watching his body language in the house etc.

Yeah, I was going to add that. I hardly think GM would think to call back about the washing machine. I did read that she went to stay elsewhere. Why wouldn't you with the police and media trampling your property? Maybe she did call him back, but I can't imagine it.

I don’t think grandma would have been thinking during the immediate aftermath of William’s disappearance that her washing machine must get fixed now, before the sale of her house. The washing machine would have been hugely unimportant at that time imo.

I also think that rallying friends and neighbours would have encouraged the use of their own washing machines, should anyone have so needed.

But I do agree that the police may have been very interested in watching Spedding’s body language and demeanour. They may even have had a very discreet specialist present to watch that. And of course, Spedding being there may just have bolstered any instinctive gut feelings they may have had.

The house would have been a potential crime scene for some time, and anyone not required by the police would not have been allowed to be there imo.

it is possible bs did call and arrange with the grandmother to finish the job, the part he ordered had arrived and he would want to be paid for the job, also, puts him amongst all the activity, guilty or not, he may have enjoyed the buzz and whatever, also puts more legitimate dna on site and in his van, hair etc transferred on his feet etc
surely police would issue a statement if bs was no longer a poi, in this case there has been so much publicity and media attention on him, potentially life ruining, but they havent.

im wondering if the locations of the billboards is the area where police think william may be being held, are they to be a constant in your face reminder to whoever has him, why dont they offer a reward?

I too have often wondered about a reward. Maybe it will come eventually with money raised by the foundation, but sometimes police offer a reward. I wonder what the criteria is for that?

I hope so!
Here in the US a lot of the the time the families put up the reward along with money from donations. Ive seen them for small amounts to very large. I think they are helpful. They get people looking when they normally wouldn't. I do not understand why there isn't one for William :\

Police will sometimes put them up here too. I'm not sure of the criteria here either.

I'm wondering if they located the billboards there to jog someone's memory; someone who might have noticed something not quite right, or a hand over, or even a face, arm or leg of a child in a car.

Perhaps they know who did this and how it happened, but are just searching for a witness or witnesses who will help them put the pieces together beyond reasonable doubt and give them that watertight case as well as the lead to William.

Whatever the reason, it's so good to see it so prominently in the public eye again.

[/QUOTE]

I recall reading that police were fairly certain they knew what happened to William that day (sorry can't find a reference). I would therefore assume the billboards are a way to gather more evidence from potential witnesses to make a stronger case against the perpetrator and also hopefully to locate William. The fact that police think they know what happened, suggests to me that they know who was involved but just don't have enough solid evidence to lay charges.
