The new images of 48 Benaroon Drive are most helpful and interesting. I find the layout very strange indeed (that archway and balustraded area dividing up that lovely big space), but then that's probably just me - everyone's taste in interior spaces is different, I guess.

A few thoughts:
The basement area is less 'finished' than I thought it was, even in the new pics. I always thought it housed the washing machine when grandma lived there, mostly because I seem to recall CY mentioning BS walking around the side of the house to get to it. No link so my opinion only.

The lower driveway seems to not be overlooked by the kitchen or living area, apart from that big window that now has a dark roller blind on it. If the family were doing as reported, sitting on the small balcony area (outside the kitchen) or using the kitchen to make a cup of tea, then they would not see a vehicle entering the lower driveway. I still find it quite shocking that that early pic in the search/investigation shows a police van parked up in that lower driveway - on top of possible evidence! Within the crime scene taped area! Seems far too close to potential evidence to me. Had the perp's vehicle driven into the lower drive, encountered William, and took off, forensic evidence may have been left right there where the police vehicle parked. What on Earth!

I can't figure out where the bathroom is on the floor plan - does it have no windows or is that a reflection of a window I see? If no windows then it certainly would not overlook the lower driveway area that I have always considered crucial to the investigation.

I'm sure the interior of the house ect is irrelevant , family have been ruled out entirely.

Thanks Mrs. G. It's the workspace under the house that has me intrigued at the moment. It looks like it has been freshly cemented, probably by the new owners but it disturbs me nonetheless. Someone posted a pic of that area in one of the previous threads and it was just dirt. I will find it eventually. :findinglink:

ETA: And then there is the kitchen, not where I envisioned it to be. Some things are just not making sense.

Looks like they may have had drainage problems under the house - there are left over bits of Ag pipe (can see the black ends of pipe in a white material "sock") along with other pipes and maybe a new "gutter" in the cement in the photo of under the house.

Well I think it's irrelevant to the investigators as they've always been aware of the true layout. But to us plebs at home, it's clear the descriptions in the media were wrong. For me this gives *more* credence to the abduction story, not less.

I am not suggesting anything about the family!

As for the interior space - yes it IS important. The views from the areas within the house where the family were situated at that time are very important indeed.

I just think police ect would know every nook and cranny of the house and where and when william was last seen , view from the house ect . I just feel a little uncomfortable at suggestions of remodels to the home as I feel it puts family in the spotlight .

I hear what you are saying Jigzy, but I'm pretty sure police would have that covered and know
Exactly where everyone was situated in the house and what they saw.

William's grandmother was sitting out back and saw nothing. His mother had ducked inside to make a cup of tea at the front of the house, with windows that look down Benaroon Drive, and saw nothing.

BBM & UBM: The above was reported on 21 September 2014 and has never been contradicted. I bet the journalist who wrote this has never even seen 48 Benaroon Drive in the flesh!

Below are a couple of images from the link Sleepinoz posted earlier. I used the clothesline as a reference in both pics to show where the kitchen window is. Of course William's mother didn't see anything from that window. William apparently ran around the side of the house and completely out of view of that window.

Exactly! The cops must just shake their head at the crap journalists write!

Exactly right Makara, for those few crucial moments he was completely out of everyone's view. A cup of tea takes a few minutes to make, plenty of time for William to meet up with a stranger out the front and be whisked away.

Misguided by media, again.

The upgrade of the driveway and work space under the house has nothing to do with William's family. As I mentioned earlier it would have been done by the new owners of the house. It was an observation about the new cement and nothing more. That whole area would have been investigated by police with a fine tooth comb and I can confidently say it would have been one of the first places they searched for William.

Looking through those pics, it is clear to me now that the laundry has an outside entrance and makes it much more likely that BS entered the laundry only, on the day he quoted the repair.

Possibly, but the GM had just come out of hospital recently. I can see her just guiding him through the house to the laundry than opening the front door and then coming down the front steps, through the carport to the deck and then laundry.

Yes totally, I just don't know
Where you're going with suspicions about the underground are being changed ? Are you thinking new owners have done this for a reason ?

  • #654
...and the boiling of a kettle whilst making the tea would possibly mean that the sound of a vehicle entering the lower driveway, or pulling up on the street, would go unnoticed, IMO.

  • #655
I for one find the underground part spooky, but that's a lifelong issue with claustrophobia plus too many scary movies. We had a smaller area like that under the house I grew up in and I couldn't even look inside it. Heebie geebies! Amazing storage area though. I'm jealous of its utility value living in a city shoebox now.

Hbayne, if this again refers to me, please read my post again - I am not suggesting for one minute that the police don't know the things you list. I was merely posting my thoughts on what has been revealed by the new photos...revealed to US.

Renovating the home is understandable under the circumstances. I'd want to put my stamp on any house I own, especially after such a tragic event as this. I don't think it implies anything to do with the family.

No I'm not referring to you, your comments are very valid.

The sister was spoken to by police and has provided the information you would expect from a child of that age - that she was playing with her brother and that he was no longer there.

I realise that these photos are probably very recent but I could not help but note the white car parked on the side of the street in the photo looking down from the carport - top drive way.
There is little view from the kitchen of any area other than the back porch.
If someone had been to the house was aware the kitchen was out back then knowing Mum was making a cuppa in the kitchen (as said in msn) would not have concerned them too much. imo

Soso, I was wondering if you think you should send this photo to crimestoppers. When the FM mentioned seeing the white station wagon across the road, she explained that it stood out to her cause in all the years she had been going to her mum's she had never seen a car park on the street in that spot. It's funny cause when I look at this shot it looks like the car is superimposed which is silly, I know. Also, does anyone know how long the property has been listed for this time? And may I add, does anyone else think it is very fortuitous that in this sad case we are able to get more perspective on the crime scene than would usually be afforded to us? Talk about synchronicity!!!!
