So Bickford was spotted driving a grey sedan around the time of Williams disappearance.

Then he goes and denies that..... and states he was driving a white commodore around the time William went missing. He then goes further mentioning his son owned a grey Holden Astra sedan at the time...but that his son was in Brisbane at the time William went missing. That car has since been scrapped.

It seems this extra information Bickford gives about his sons car shouldn't be necessary..so why bring it up at all??.....maybe he is starting to forget himself and is getting a little nervous..... slipping up??

I do find it a strange coincidence that Police were allegedly led to believe that Mr Jones car had been disposed of - until it was revealed it was actually at a neighbours house......now we have Bickford mentioning his son owning a grey sedan....that has been scrapped... odd.

Just paraphrasing a bit of the "Daily's" article for those that can't access it.
Bickford said he went out that day somewhere. My friends would have verified that to police. I can't remember exactly where, it was the westport club - I think.
Bickford claims that the police had told him and his wife that he was no longer a POI - this hasn't been confirmed by police though.
He said at the time of Williams disappearance he was driving a white commodore and that his son owned a grey Holden Astra sedan (grey or silver sedan was seen parked in Benaroon Dr, the day William went missing) . Tony Bickford claims his son was in Brisbane with his (sons) car at the time William went missing. That car has since been scrapped.

Yes, I never liked that creepy super-cheap-must-sell-fast house with its creepy 'for sale' pics and the teddy bear on the back of the couch. I don't like its proximity to where William went missing, I don't like that those cars were seen parked on the road in front of it, I don't like that it looked like someone was squatting there ..... or maybe hanging out there for whatever reason.

How do you appeal when you pleaded guilty??

You don't, unless someone made a legal error. Lawyers are generally very careful not to do that in 'convenience plea' cases. But you may say you are going to appeal, because that seems to be what many guilty people seem to say. As if that will reverse their guilt.


A lawyer published this, via the Aboriginal Law Society, about the convenience plea ... bit lengthy, but it explains the convenience plea from one lawyer's standpoint.

10. Be across the law and ethical rules that apply to convenience pleas. Convenience pleas should in principle be avoided wherever possible but it is a reality of ALS practice that a significant number of your clients’ pleas of guilty are on a convenience basis.

Let’s be honest - almost always, our clients are not actually agreeing to plead guilty to something they didn’t do – they are refusing to admit guilt to something they did do but for various reasons (denial, embarrassment etc.) won't to their legal representatives or the world at large, and we as lawyers accommodate this charade by taking the plea on a “convenience” basis.

This is a tricky area, and it is essential that you understand the ins and outs of it—what consequences it has for your clients, the need for clear signed instructions, the efficacy of a full pre‐sentence report where a client is not admitting guilt, what submissions you can and can’t make in such circumstances, what evidence you can and can’t call etc.

But he said he pled guilty to the charges because he was told by his solicitor that if he was found guilty by the court he would most likely be sentenced to 10 years +. Maybe this is what PB is getting at.

A pedo getting 10 years? That would be an unusually long sentence for a first time offender ... historically. imo

Yeah, OK I get the pleading guilty so as to only get a 16 month suspended sentence and avoid prison time.
But I guess there would have to be solid evidence for your lawyer to suggest a guilty plea is the way to go.

But to then go and breach the conditions of that convenience plea ...... seems rather bizzare and foolish.

I can't imagine that a person innocent of such an abhorrent crime as child sexual abuse would plead guilty. Like you say the evidence must have been there for him to think he would be taking a risk letting it go to court.

When PB was interviewed by reporter Dan Nolan outside Port Macquarie Local Courthouse on 20 January 2016 (he appeared in court that day over 'breach of reporting conditions' re the previous child aggravated indecent assault conviction) - the story airing on ACA on 9 February 2016 (http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article/9083338/tyrrell-men), he claimed on the day of poor little William’s disappearance (12/9/14), he “was right here in Port Macquarie with friends having lunch…I was at my wife’s house”. Seems to suggest that maybe they were not together by then? (and that was prior to his arrest). See about the 10:20 minute to 10:30 minute mark in the ACA video.

Now he says he and his wife entertained friends for lunch but he struggled to recall the location. “We went out to somewhere. I can’t remember exactly. Surely they (the friends) would have verified that (to police),” he said yesterday. “I’m pretty sure we went to a club, I think it was Westport (Club), I think.”

So, his story has changed. Also, William disappeared just after 10.30am that morning. What club serves lunch at 10.30am? Also, the FM alleges a green or grey sedan drove past the Benaroon Drive house about 9am while William and his sister were riding bikes in the driveway. Det Insp Jubelin said “the car drove into the quiet cul-de-sac, did a u-turn in the neighbour's driveway and drove out of the street” (Source: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/william-t...appearance-20150907-gjgpr1.html#ixzz41EmZuTtO). He is definitely digging himself into a hole and publicly! Maybe this is why the newest information was released. Seems every time he speaks to media he says some thing different. Next thing he will probably say he was at the Buzz Cafe having coffee!
