It's got me beat why this was published yesterday but there may just be something more happening that can't be released in Australian MSM right now. I'm really hoping that is the case and little William is found alive and well.

I do not remember hearing about the New Years sighting so maybe that info just now leaked out and MSM is jumping on it for something to write about. If that were the case I'd rather they just leave it out of media. I too hope/pray there is more to this. Hard to know what to think.

IIRC Australian police had said that was an international request for all CS to post about William on their sites and not just NZ.

I have to go and read the new articles about possible sightings. Just waking up here in the States snd need s giant cup of coffee! Hope this is not false hope for William's family ......

I hope Fairfax NZ has their facts straight, otherwise it is very disturbing that they publshed the article.

After months chipping away with no breakthrough, a photo came across the desks of Strike Force Rosann detectives.
There was no denying the baby face in the image looked heart-stoppingly similar to William Tyrrell.

With the child was a man with a chilling resemblance to someone police investigating three-year-old William's abduction had been interested in. The photograph, captured in central Queensland, filled investigators with hope.

The next day detectives on the soon-to-be 12-month investigation and senior police were briefed at the State Crime Command in Parramatta.

They were liaising with their Queensland counterparts about how William's extraction would play out.

Flights were about to be booked.

Then at the last minute, word from the ground reached investigators and obliterated their hope – it wasn't William.

The disappointment, confirmed by multiple sources, has become one of the complex investigation's most crippling lows.

Earlier this year two passengers and a member of the flight crew thought they saw William on their New Zealand-bound flight.

Police met the plane on the tarmac and watched passengers disembark. It wasn't William.

It was not quite a year since William disappeared when the tip-off came from Queensland. The article also states that it was earlier in 2015 that the tip-off came about William being on a New Zealand bound flight. And that's all that has ever been published in regard to sightings of William, although apparently there have been thousands of suspected sightings. The 2016 New Year sighting in New Zealand is something new to us at least. Hmmm, maybe there is something in the wind. :thinking:

I am thinking the New years Eve sighting is new to all of us..... I sincerely hope this article release is part of some strategy.

Everytime something comes out in the media, I hope that there is some behind the scenes reason for release of this information or that information.

With Crimestoppers being affiliated with police I have to wonder if they were directed at the time...... along with this seemingly (to us atm) random article. ........with possibly new to most of us info NY eve...sighting....... is it all strategy. ...

I would sincerely like to hope so.......it gives me faith...that a direction/path is being followed.

Hunt for missing toddler William Tyrell goes across the world

NSW Crime Stoppers CEO Peter Price, who is also the Crime Stoppers International vice president, said the agency expected other countries, including the US, Canada, Netherlands and South Africa, to follow suit in the coming days.

“We’re using the global crime stoppers network to broaden the communications appeal relating to his disappearance,” Mr Price said.

“We’re hoping that somebody might recognise him.”

NSW Homicide Squad detective Gary Jubelin, who is leading the investigation into the three-year-old’s abduction, said while the worldwide appeal was welcome, there was no evidence to suggest William had been taken overseas.

So a full 12 months after this article was published Australian Police were notified about the suspected sighting of William in New Zealand.

No, not him either. This guy was a real baddie IIRC and escaped from prison before William disappeared. I read the MSM article subsequent to William's disappearance and thought 'What if?'. At the time it seemed too conspiratorial, especially when everything seemed to be pointing toward BS et al being connected to it. Honestly, Pep, thanks for your help but I think I'm going to have to search for the article myself (if it still exists). Sadly, otherwise we could be tossing names back and forth ad infinitum.

i remember in the early weeks the william or police fb page had an alert for a missing paedophile but think he was on the central coast? he wasnt where he was meant to be? could this be who youre thinking of?

Well William's story has made front page of the capital's local paper, The Dominion Post (also part of Fairfax / "Stuff", the articles tend to be more Wellington-focused):

Whatever the reason for this (I'm wondering if the New Year's Eve sighting was in Wellington?) it's great that his picture and story is out there.

There's no mention of William in the New Zealand Herald in the past 24 hours (an Auckland-focused newspaper, albeit with a lot of nationwide articles too), which is interesting. The NZ Herald has, until now, been reporting on all the developments in the case.

I need to clarify something I posted yesterday. In that post I said hardly any news has been posted about William in New Zealand; however, when I was searching through NZ Herald articles before (to see if they'd posted anything about William in the past 24 hours), I could see that they have indeed published a myriad of articles about him in the past. So I was wrong in saying otherwise, and I apologise.

I read the front pages of all the major NZ papers (online versions) each morning and then only click on the headings of things I want to know more about - I have done so for years - so I can only imagine these articles were buried in the international sections which you have to make an effort to go and find ... they certainly weren't front and centre like the articles that Fairfax published yesterday and today.

So, his case has had coverage in New Zealand, albeit not the exposure that the likes of Daily Mail have offered.

Agree completely Bo. How on earth will they ever 'recover' when surrounded by evil minds of the same ilk. I would hate to think any of these dregs would ever be sitting next to my grandchildren while they're out having coffee, doing groceries etc. And I certainly think there are few jobs where they could truly be trusted to not use it as an avenue to ply their perversions. Only one safe place for them to get a steady income from a 'job' and that's behind bars.

If so, he is the reporter who wrote that article saying that William had been sighted on two occasions in New Zealand ... to my knowledge, he isn't part of William's family. I'm quite certain he'll either ignore my Tweet, or say he can't say where the sighting on New Year's was, but I thought it was worth a crack anyway. Sorry if I've broken any rules.

While I've got you here, do you remember a dangerous sex offender (not sure if he was a CSO or not) who escaped from prison in NZ (North Island, I think but can't be sure) in 2014 and was thought to have travelled to Australia? Was he ever caught?
