Yes, I think it could be. Thank you, soso. :loveyou:

The police officer who was worried went right to the top of their local station with their concerns.

I think the police were pretty on top of this right from the get-go. But they abandoned nothing, no lines of inquiry at all. Just in case.
They didn't search those local homes a kazillion times for no reason. Or call in the sex crimes squad so early for no reason. Or rip all of Spedding's property apart for no reason.

All the while Mr Washing machine man had received a message that morning from Williams mother.
When are you coming?
But he did, didn't, maybe call back....:dunno:

He probably just rocked up, soso. No need to call back if you are on your way. He had made plans to get to the school assembly, he needed this small job out of the way before that .. before the family arrived.

So instead he delayed and called back, officially, that afternoon. Why would he wait that long to return the call ... if he was doing nothing else very important? Just visiting his office, he said, iirc, and going to the assembly after coffee. And already had another job scheduled for after the assembly.

Yeah I agree but I was just remembering all the versions of events from others.
Bill said he ...blah did call and got no answer. Called back later that day.

And that is, I believe, one of the pieces of circumstantial evidence they have against Spedding. No attempted call to grandma .. proven by telco records. A deleted call log, because he didn't want them to see he made no call to grandma that morning.
And this circumstantial evidence (and very likely other circumstantial evidence) allowed a search warrant to be authorised. They couldn't get that warrant without good cause.

I think they fact he was called back to fix the washer in the days following Williams disappearance .... is well ... strategic.
Because surely he did not call them after having said to the family member - hey I think I have been to that house.

I don't believe those cars had anything to do with this crime. I think they had to be ruled out. Ruled out for court purposes. Just like every similar car to Karen Ristevski's car had to be ruled out.

There is a lot of ruling out that must be done when preparing evidence for a potential court case. They must leave nothing for a good defence lawyer to pin reasonable doubt on.

Is this it SA?

At 2.35pm detectives are dispatched from Port Macquarie and begin taking statements. One of them speaks to a colleague, Detective Senior Constable Vanessa Partridge, back at Port Macquarie late that afternoon; they are worried something more sinister may have taken place. Partridge arrives very early the next day, and already there are people out on horseback, on bicycle, on foot, searching for William. His dad is out there with them, and will be for days, thinking, “Surely if he is out here in the bush he’ll be found?”

I'm not sure what you mean by strategic. I think this was purely a crime of opportunity. No prior planning involved. Just a beautiful, cute, alone little victim he stumbled on.

Heck, he probably did not even realised it was grandma's grandson at the time. Grandma's grandson was not supposed to be there yet.. Just thought it was an anonymous small child wandering loose .. no-one around .. no-one calling for him yet.

That is where I think we are going astray. Thinking that he (or anyone) knew that William was grandma's grandson. The family were not supposed to be there yet. William was near the edge of the road, not up in the yard.

I meant calling BS back in the days following to fix the washer.
Watch his reaction. Maybe have a dog have a sniff of his scent.
We still do not know for certain if Williams sister saw anything ,... do we?

IIRC Spedding said he called and the FM said not today?
Was he covering his arse?
(Maybe they were busy searching for William?)

Bill said he had been there a few days before and a few days after he hasn't said anything about the calls has he?
Isn't it just what he has told others and they have told the media.

He says his father was due to go to William’s grandmother’s house on the day William disappeared, to fix her washing machine, but “he went to an award ceremony at the school, where one of the boys was getting an award, so he ended up going there rather than going out on that day to William’s grandmother’s”. He says his father told him that he phoned the grandmother to say he would not be coming to fix the washing machine.

How would anyone know exactly where WT went missing from if they weren't watching him? Front yard, back yard, side of the house? Where?

  • #357
I'm sure I remember FM saying BS had called her back and she told him not now as they were searching for William. It may be in the 60 minutes interview.

  • #358
I wonder what happened with Spedding at the court last Friday.

He did call her back, but not until the afternoon. 2pm-ish, I believe. Something like that. And that is when he was told not to come that day (William was missing, all heck had broken out).

Grandma called him earlier in the morning. He had stacks of time after her call, before the assembly, to return her call. But he didn't .. until much later.

He said all he was doing during that time was hanging at his office, then going for coffee .. at a shop where the manager did not recall seeing him there recently.

No i don't believe she could tell them anything because she probably didn't see anything. Will have try and find the article now where i read that.
