And if police were told a repairman was expected to make contact sometime on the day that would have supported Speddings's story that he had tried and could not get thru. That would be verifiable. He tried later and was verified by FM who has said he made contact in the arvo.

To me, that is choosing the bits of the media reports that a person wants to believe, and dispelling the rest of the media reports.

The big question is ... why is Spedding still a leading POI/suspect after all these years? (Along with 4 others, who we are not sure of their names.) What is keeping him in that position? What is it that we do not know?

One would think it would make it easier. Imo
You would think, as Spedding is known, he would have conversations with others.
The day was found to be significant later, so surely people remember that particular day,
who they saw/spoke to: it would be clear in their minds immediately, I would think.
The person would think about the events that day and recall.
As the interviews, were later, one would perhaps remember, what you recalled that particular day, when you learnt of the disappearance.
We remember, years later, what we were doing during important News events.
This is a small town, this would be an important event, and possibly one remembers what one was doing. o_O
But it seems, others do not.o_O:(
MOO.

Yes I agree, Once the significance of the school assembly was realised, I’ m sure everyone there checked with their friends to confirm where they sat, and I have no doubt the police have done a seating arrangement showing where EVERY person sat that day.
Cant imagine BS being so unlucky that not one person remembered him.
If even one person (apart from MS) saw him I dont believe he would be a POI.

Yes I ageee too . I’m also wondering if perhaps Paul Savage May have sighted him or his vehicle in Benaroon that mornington too .

Correct possibly due to the fact that people did not remember seeing him where he said he was (one would assume the coffee shop and school).
We’re for Sydney | Daily Telegraph
Also of interest to me was at what point did his name get announced in the media. Was it before or after the historic allegations came to light? As in, was he named in the media simply for being at the house and having an inconsistent alibi and then someone who knew him saw his name and said there were historic allegations against him (unlikely) or was it that someone knew he had been at that particular house and then said there were historic allegations against him and then the media reported it? This more likely scenario says to me that someone very close to him dropped him in it. It would be interesting to know who.
When little WT disappeared, the foster family may have been asked by LE about their daily schedule and dropped the name of BS, who was originally expected to come over this same day. Then maybe LE learned of some mysterious upcoming examination by FACS of NOT historic but current accusations. After that maybe LE learned also and in addition of the historic accusations. This all together may have pointed to him as a possible POI. No wonder, I would think. IMO MOO
If I will find a link to the "current accusations", I will post it. It was about one (or more) of the children, BS/MS had in their care.

I truly think that police would have had to have more than Spedding being a suspected/accused pedo in another event.
Something that more directly linked him to this crime.
A sighting, an unconfirmable alibi, unaccountable whereabouts at the relevant times, direct lies, concealment of evidence ....

We also need to remember that the inquest is the Coroner's event. The witnesses are being called by the Coroner. After the Coroner has completely reviewed all of the case notes and evidence. The Coroner apparently feels that it is important to get Spedding to front up at the inquest, in its first round.

ive always wondered what it was the first female responding officer noticed to make the comment "somethings not right" or words similar?

Aren't you comparing remembering what *you* were doing on a given date, as opposed to being a waitress in a restaurant that serves perhaps hundreds each day, being asked months later, who she saw at work as a customer on a given day?

It might be clear in ones mind if you were at or nearby a crime scene but Laurieton is not the crime scene.

Cases are full of witnesses who cannot recall accurately what and who they think they saw and when they saw it. I am pretty sure media hounds would have uncovered something if something was there to be uncovered.

I believe the more important event on the day is the well dressed man asking a shop worker directions to Benaroon drive. Police asked the shop worker not to release details on this. Why? Reported in media.

Very well honed instinct

A directions hearing is not the 1st round if that is what you refer to. Spedding may have attended of his own volition.

The below is taken from the nsw coroners office explanatory online doc

If the matter is of any complexity, a directions hearing is desirable to sort out any interlocutory issues or controversies, to outline, if appropriate, the coroner’s list of issues to the interested parties and to set any ground rules the coroner proposes for the conduct of the hearing: s 49 provides that a coroner may issue case management directions. This will help the coroner estimate the likely length of the hearing.

He may not have been seated he may have stood at the back with his wife if they were late and didn't want to interrupt proceedings.

March 25th, 2019 ... first round of the inquest ..... William Spedding.

“He’s been summoned to attend so, of course, he’s going to be represented”, said his lawyer Peter O’Brien

Or he might not have been there at all. That’s always a possibility until we know the truth. IMO.

Well it does if he says he was somewhere else. IMO. If he’s innocent, why would he lie? IMO

Do you have proof he lied? That is a pretty big statement.

  • #616
You were ‘in absentia’ so to speak, for a while. IMO.

The media still know more than we do. IMO

I cannot recall being in absentia. How strange you are bringing this up.

The media are keeping him in that position. If you have proof of a police statement as such please provide such.

Here’s wishing everyone who truly cares for William and his loved ones a safe and happy Christmas.

Then will come the New Year, when we will be so much closer to knowing the answers to the questions we’ve had burning in our hearts and minds for so many years.

Do you have proof he didn't lie?

What he has said is part of the 'inconsistencies' in his statement to Police.

Tradesman Bill Spedding had a 10-page interview

As they checked out everyone’s statements about where they were on that Friday, detectives allegedly found some inconsistencies in what Mr Spedding told them which led them to raid his former pawnbroking office in Laurieton and his home at Bonny Hills this week.
