The lead detective of 4 years has been sidelined from the case, resigned feeling disappointed and saddened about what is going on behind the scenes in the case, and had charges brought against him in the way he has recorded information during the course of the said investigation. During those years investigating WT's disappearance, a part of the strategy used under his command was to use the media to bring maximum pressure upon POI's for sustained periods of time, without charging them, and as he has said, he makes no apology for that. These methods have been quite questionable to many citizen's idea of how uncharged people are dealt with in the public eye. I do not believe it is payback or bashing to examine the allegations against the lead investigator or the methods he uses. MOO

And the methods according to media reports that Jubelin pushed junior officers to use.

Yes there must be some situations that they have to make a split second decision to record something and no opportunity to obtain a warrant. Consider making a phone call to someone and then that person not hanging up (or perhaps accidentally making a pocket call back) and hearing a conversation that could help the investigation? I imagine that would be one circumstance where crucial information could be recorded.

In this case it doesn't appeared be 'split second'. The media report the recordings were made at Parramatta NSW police HQ and Kendall. Jubelin would have known who he was going to have discussions with.

Maybe one of the strategies of this case that has backfired for GJ is how public he has been as a face of this investigation and possibly other cases and how much he has been willing to court the MSM and harness them as a tool of the police. I wouldn't say that the petition had no impact or didn't hasten when the coronial inquest commenced. The government cannot look like it is swayed in legal procedures and yet often bends to pressure from outside forces. I did use the word,"may" in my post and did not state it as a fact, just something to consider. So if you read my post again, I have nothing against people taking up a petition on any subject. My hope, is that the powers that be do not yield to the petition pressure, especially over unrelated arguments to the charges. Those unrelated arguments are, that victim's families have great regard for GJ's dedication and skills to their loved one's investigations. It doesn't explain why he shouldn't be tried for these charges. Also I find it interesting that besides the article from 7 that posted the article and the link to the petition, that most of the support that has come through the media for GJ's position has come from subsiduaries of 9, the outlet that he has mainly used to harness the media for the investigation, whether it be The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Ray Hadley's rant about his resignation on 2GB. The TV GJ has mainly used to harness the media has been 9 as well. 60 minutes, ACA and the news. Did I mention the 9 subsiduary also produced "Underbelly" of which GJ was a main character in one of the series. GJ has been a cash cow for 9, and 9 have happily been harnessed by GJ. GJ is not some gormless plod with no resources. IMO

Very succinct and great points raised.

The Morcombe’s are absolutely amazing. I wish William’s circumstances allowed him to have his parents / carers allowed to speak for him without all the conditions.I know it didn’t help Daniel but still ..... Brett Cowan was stung by a secret recording

A fully warranted secret recording!

Yes, Wex, I know he arrested Hillsley but what I am asking for is an MSM link that states Jubes questioned BS in 1987 in relation to the alleged child sexual assaults.

It seems (at the time of publication of papertrail’s Guardian article link) BS’ record of interview, as well as that of the girls’ mother, were unable to be found.

It could be that Jubes was involved in interviewing BS in 1987 —that would have depended on if the locations where Jubes was stationed and BS resided at that time coincided — but without a link from MSM to confirm any connection we can’t say for sure.
I realise that, Bo. In 1987 GJ was only 2 years on the force so unlikely at that time to have questioned him. But he was involved in arresting Hillsley in 2004 for another heinous crime and no doubt it also came up in the course of investigation that Hillsley had previous form (and perhaps some of his relatives had accusations against them too).

At present, "sneaky obtained information is legit" when it's been previously authorized by a warrant. It's still sneaky, because the recorded person isn't shown the warrant. But there's the guarantee that the secret recording is necessary in that a judge has looked over the reasons and said OK. It's not just some cop doing his mate a favour and helping to terrorize the mate's ex-spouse.

The other way to voice-record is to get consent. Or the alternative you suggest (with a change of law), for everyone to know and expect that all police-citizen interactions are always recorded. So no express consent and no warrant. I'm asking whether you'd make an exception where the citizen can't be expected to know the interlocutor is a police officer. I don't mean the police officer should break cover at the crucial point! I mean, be organized and get a warrant first, as I'm sure those who trapped Cowan did.

There is nothing that says a recorded person must 1st see the warrant during a police investigation. It is required the police obtain a warrant to record a conversation/discussion as part of their investigation.

Chilling tapes of Anita Cobby murder confession emerge

DETECTIVES have released chilling recordings of the men who raped and killed Anita Cobby confessing to one of the most shocking crimes in Australian history.

The tapes of John Travers and Michael Murdoch admitting to taking part in the brutal gang rape and murder led to the conviction of the 26-year-old’s five attackers.

They were obtained by Travers’s aunt, a woman known only as “Miss X”, who bravely agreed to hide a microphone in her bra while she visited him in his cell

BS’ name might have rung a bell with Jubes at the 2015 arrest due to his relationship with Hillsley, who knows? Then again, it might have been one of those karmic occurrences that I keep hearing so much about.

@JLZ
just to point out the opposite point you made (which I see the perspective )

I am following a case in America where two teenage girls were murdered, now one of the girls managed to sneaky video with audio her killer as he was approaching them.
she is hailed a hero by LE for doing this.

now my point is she didn't have her killers permission to take this footage but she did the right thing.

the rest if the point is here is a detective doing his work and been demonized and pushed from the force for doing exactly the same thing.

its ridiculous in this day and age these charges against a police officer.

moo

The detective is a law enforcement officer and required to uphold the law during his service.

It's irrelevant, to wire up the aunt, police would have had a warrant. The dispute is not about secretly recording people which is standard police procedure with a warrant, or cautioning people they are a suspect in an interview. Mark Atkins's police interview was not admissable in court because they had not cautioned him that he was a suspect. Not saying GJ was responsible for that 🤬🤬🤬🤬 up but when he has worked on a case where the evidence is there and seen it thrown out of court, you would think he would have learned from others mistakes. IMO

With all the CCTV EVERYWHERE recording EVERYTHING 27/7. Recordings don’t lie so I’d be happy to be recorded.

Warrants are handy the recording was GOLD!

And those recordings were done under WARRANT

Warrants are the difference between being able to convict someone or having evidence that they did something and watching them roaming freely on the street. CCTV does not record sound. If the only thing they had in the AC case was that recording without a warrant those animals would have walked free. A court would have to throw that recording as evidence out.

Let’s not forget GJ strenuously denies these allegations. Many were condemned on here for pointing blame on BS before a court case or conviction. Surely GJ should be afforded the same

Funny you say that, tbl, the headline in the Daily Telegraph’s op-ed piece on the weekend was ‘Cops are chasing the wrong guy’.

Makes you wonder about the timing of the charges and how much they are detracting from William’s case.

Agree, have just consulted the mod to see if the way the podcast is published if it is deemed MSM.

My goodness! I guess there must be a strong reason in your own mind why this podcast should not be linked or spoken of on WS.

It is obvious that the podcast is produced by Channel 10, and they have verbally listed their producers and station participants at the end of the podcast.

The mediums they are using to air this podcast do not produce their own material. The mediums are the same as using a CD player or a BluRay player .. they are a device to use to play published material.

Our MSM links are all read and then posted via our laptops, phones, tablets, and computers from things we find on Google searches. Is that MSM?
