IIRC, Pollard was sure it was Spedding's van, but he couldn't have known for sure who it was inside, since he said the person had his head down to hide himself from being seen. It seems it was ruled out, based on that it couldn't have been Spedding's van. In any case, that turned out to be a wasted effort since it seems police did a thorough search of the area based on Pollard's report, and found zero.
I vague :( remember a fallen off part of truck/car , which was found ....

It seems the media was already camped out at Spedding's house from early morning, as if expecting there to be some kind of newsworthy event, which the Speddings knew nothing about (which turned out to be true, as he was arrested and taken away that day in a highly publicized fashion) - only the police knew they were coming to arrest Spedding.. so I doubt if it was Col or any Spedding family members who were feeding the media. That seems to leave only the police who could've tipped off media? imo.

I question the veracity of that rumour. Caroline Overington - who wasn't there as Dan Box was doing the case reporting for The Australian - is the one who speculated on that. IIRC

According to Margaret, the grandchildren ran into the house saying that there were police all over the place.

Whereas, definitely Col was feeding the media with interesting information. Things we hadn't heard before.

imo

Oh it seemed like you were saying what was said was untrue..noone was feeding the media, they have their ways to get little tidbits and then add the twist IMO

Col said two things to the media that stood out to me (referenced in my previous post).

1. Spedding tried to call FGM in the morning as the part was in and he wanted to make an appointment (presumably before the weekend as he knew FGM had expected visitors, and Spedding had stated that he wanted the weekend off due to kids footy).
O'Brien said at the inquest that the second part came in that Friday arvo. What 2nd part? Was that part meant for FGM or was it a part required for Spedding's Dunbogan arvo job or another job?

2. A family friend also attended the assembly with the Speddings. No mention of that by O'Brien .. a family friend who may have been able to confirm Spedding's attendance. A family friend who also may have had coffee and cake with Margaret prior to the assembly, for all the police knew.

I am in no way insinuating that Col was telling untruths. I feel more that O'Brien was presenting things as he wanted to present them, to make Spedding's alibi seem more solid than it actually is.

I also feel that Col thought he was doing the best thing he could for Spedding by speaking with the media. Turns out it sent the media into producing many publications repeating Col's words .. which may have been Col's intent, but it is not fair to blame the police for the media hype. imo

The second part that came in Friday arvo was delivered to his home address, wasn't it?

I wonder what time BS called the fgm's home that afternoon to say the part or parts had arrived, but was told it was not a good time?
He must have returned to his home to know that part two had arrived. Unless MS had already arrived home from her shopping and called him to let him know, which would have been in his phone log you would think.

Colin said Mr Spedding had visited William's grandmother's house on Monday, September 8, but needed to order a part, which arrived on Thursday September 11.
He said that, when Mr Spedding got in touch with the family on Friday, the day that William went missing, he initially couldn't get a hold of the grandmother.......................

"He's rung them again because he couldn't get them in the morning," Colin said.
"Then [William's] mother answered it and said, 'Oh I'm afraid, look I'm afraid you can't come and do it at the moment - we will give you a call when we can.' "

I find the apparent timing of HS’s departure from Benaroon Drive quite coincidental. Especially given the apparent interest in PS, beyond seemingly just being a witness to something. Could it be that William was snatched and incapacitated in some way (drugged?) and placed in HS’s car? HS may have (unknowingly) driven William away. Her parking location was obviously known, given her bingo trip was a regular activity. Somebody (perhaps part of the supposed pedophile ring?) may have collected William. Taken to another location.. Dunbogan has been identified as a location for at least a couple of the POIs later that day. IMO

Very dramatic, right down to the stutter. Was it even FFC Spedding spoke to when he rang back? I have a feeling it was FGM, and FFC didn't know exactly what time Spedding rang. She got the message some time that afternoon.

Wouldn't the person collecting have needed a key, which would imply PS planned the abduction at least a day before, which is hard to see.

Yes I agree it seems so unlikely.. and yet so do many other possible theories. If it was a planned abduction, then it had to be planned by somebody?? If it was random, it was also carried out in a way that meant William was taken without anybody noticing. A car exiting Benaroon Drive at almost the exact same time that William disappeared raises suspicion in my mind. Especially when that car was driven by the wife of a POI. IMO

And Col told us about MS consulting the psychic who told her BS was not involved. Which of course was completely unnecessary as she knew BS was with her at the coffee shop and the assembly. Is it any wonder we are all confused?

Maybe she just got to talking about it with the psychic, and perhaps wasn't the first time she had seen that person anyway? She might have been a regular client and possibly just got some validation about it? Lots of people visit psychics to get readings, it's not unusual. I'm sure she wasn't with her husband 24/7, so could of alleviated any other doubts she might have had?

I'm curious about this statement from the 1yr anniversary reports.

"The second sighting was of a four-wheel-drive driving out of Benaroon Drive about 10.30am - when William vanished - and was later seen speeding down another Kendall street."

If this is the 4wd that Ron Chapman saw speeding down Laurel St at 10.45, who saw it leave Benaroon Drive about 10.30am?

That's not really the point. The point is, following on from what South Aussie said, Col made several statements to the media, that they reported, that raised further questions and were conflicting and confusing about BS and his whereabouts. It wasn't just the police who made the media and the public look at BS and ask questions.

Why would you need validation from a psychic if you knew your husband was with you at the time of William’s disappearance.
A bizarre thing to do under the circumstances.
I didn't necessarily mean validation for her husband being with her when he was with her, obviously.

A few months ago, Youngberry reveals, Margaret Spedding went to a clairvoyant. He says he’s heard the tape recording of the conversation. Margaret asked the clairvoyant if her husband had been involved in any way in William’s disappearance. The clairvoyant reassured her he hadn’t. “That made her feel good,” Youngberry says.

So ... what could be the reasons for Margaret's question?

1. Spedding wasn't with her at the assembly
OR
2. Spedding was with her at the assembly but she was still afraid he could have been somehow involved
AND/OR
3. She doesn't completely trust Spedding with regard to young children

imo
