So is Cook going to take the stand to "defend" himself, you'd think he would be eager too, if he denies what GJ has said he said???

Hi Doc, and firstly - thank you for all you’ve done & contributed to William’s cause, & also to keeping us all here updated.

I may’ve dreamt it as I can’t find a link, but I’m sure I saw reported that Cook denied making that ‘dismissive’ comment re William & his investigation. ..

Omg - what happened to this little boy!

Police Commissioner Mick Fuller on Wednesday issued a statement saying he had "full confidence in the professionalism" of Supt Cook.

The revelations followed the cross-examination of Jubelin by the Crown, which alleged he'd made the comments up as a means of advancing his own case.

Prosecutor Philip Hogan accused Jubelin of lying about Supt Cook's comments.

"Just like you're lying about believing that you made these recordings to protect a lawful interest, in order to avoid responsibility for your own illegal behaviour," he said.

Mr Hogan said Jubelin intentionally asked person of interest Paul Savage questions that "crossed the line" and "belittled, bullied and intimidated" him during the four recordings.

Jubelin - who quit the force in 2019 - agreed he asked "difficult" questions and put pressure on Mr Savage.
He also agreed he continued speaking to the elderly man even after Mr Savage told him he had been instructed not to speak to police without a solicitor.

But the homicide squad veteran denied the interviews were improper or put Mr Savage's welfare at risk.

Assistant Commissioner Cook, was promoted to his role in homicide in the later part of 2017. In December 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner as the Police Prosecutions and Licensing Enforcement Commander.

Maybe he was advancing his own, get those files over to unsolved room.

* Been homicide 10 months
* restructure investigations

I see this photo differently now.

I’m sure I read that Jubelin turned his focus away from Spedding and onto Savage where the others stayed zeroed on Spedding.
Did anyone else see that? I can’t see it atm.

Here it is. He tried to stop the warrant on the house.

Jubelin told the court he was concerned before he even took over the case that the “Bill Spedding line of inquiry was very overt and very public” and claimed he tried to put a stop to the search warrant being executed on his house, but it went ahead anyway.

Oh Sleep , I saw the way they work at the siege inquest , these tops cops ( Scipione, Burns, Loy, Fuller, Jenkins, Murdoch etc ( & I thought Fuller was was the best of a bad bunch ) ...................Jubes has more moral fibres than these whole lot put together :)

They " top cops at the very top " were basically dragged to court kicking & screaming the whole way ( read that as weeks & months of trying to get out of it by every legal argument known to man ) but the families of Tori & Katrina were getting them on the stand to explain their actions ( or in actions ;) ) & they did :)

I'll never forget the way they "acted" the tactics they used , the buck passing, the blaming..................

And I can completly understand Jube's issue with the LD's..............the ones they put in at Lindt were useless.........

What a circus it was when they were all in court, I've never seen so many high ranking police officers fill a court room to " support " the top cops :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Self-indulgence & self-serving gets quite a number of people that ‘high’ ranking & matching pay packets - but it must take ‘something foreign to me’ to be able to bear the fallout in the workplace & more importantly, the daily face in the mirror...imo

In my view more than likely the matter regarding Scott had zero zilch nothing to do with the trial of allegations against Jubelin.

I kind of thought this myself. Perhaps Cuneen is trying to make the case that Jubelin felt widely unsupported in the case and his instincts about PS.
He said PS had made trouble for him before.
That he had been told that Williams case was unsolvable and he was desperate to
prove them wrong. That there was possibly even a culture in his workplace of police using their phones to record statements suspects made when they thought they weren’t being recorded. That he was being singled out and used as a scapegoat as his type of policing was unpopular with the higher ups.

Wasn't he about to be fired? I think they gave him the heads up that he was facing dismissal, and so quitting was the best way to go for him. JMO

It would look better on his record, for future job searches, if he had quit as opposed to being ousted.

could be, who knows.... My thought is that he was totally f**&# off with the whole situation, no doubt after years of battling - and time was now up.
I do think Gary will go on after all this to do more good. .. and who knows, maybe he’ll still help find out about William.

Hey Aron.Wor, was just wondering if all the opinions on here about "Mental Health " were from anyone with actual qualifications , that was all ;)

I trust you are doing great work in a woefully under resourced area, that is Mental Health, good luck with your Bachelor in Counselling :)

Once again Dr - so well articulated. Thank you.

IMO it’s important we have ‘qualified’ input to balance / support our own opinions.
...... Not in anyway thinking to diminish our supposed ‘unqualified’ opinions ( imo - there should be a Diploma for Mothering & Home Building - life skills contribute so much & should be recognised & applauded )

It’s a shame they’ve tarnished him - Jubelin I mean. In doing so they’ll only tarnish themselves because he was good PR - the poster boy for NSWPOL.
IMO they have made a huge blunder prosecuting him openly like this. As mentioned earlier up thread, if they were so up in arms it could have possibly been dealt with in house - by some type of demotion. Perhaps a suspension. Surely they have other options internally they use to deal with breeches of protocol.
Or were they worried that the other officers in the department who made the complaints would go public and maybe threatened to do so. Making it look like a cover up.

uuumm - one wonders about it all.

Mostly I wonder about a missing little boy & why our Police Force (that I work so hard to contribute $ toward their upkeep) It’s so very disappointing & I hope there’s an unbiased investigation of the Force, most especially re handling of William’s case, the Sydney Cafe Siege and other situations.

This society needs & is entitled to genuine & uncorrupted care & representation,

hopefully the system will be overhauled & values will prevail :)

The probing questions in court this week reminded me of these comments made by Fehon back in January 2015. Could there be a similar situation arising with Savage?

Superintendent Paul Fehon, the officer in charge of the investigation, told Inquirer this week that there could be “very, very serious complications for them down the track if nothing eventuates”.

But questions will also be asked of the police if nothing eventuates with Spedding. They too have skin in this game.

I hope it's ok to post this. It's not behind a paywall but the link no longer works. Please let me know if it's not ok and I'll remove. If allowed and anyone is interested I can c & p the full article.

Gary Jubelin’s criminal hearing has resumed for a tenth day. The courtroom is packed, with people sitting on the floor, as it has been every day for two weeks. Some people aren’t even related to anyone involved, they’re just here to watch. Closing arguments shortly.

Prosecutor Phil Hogan tells the court “the defence that has been asserted simply doesn’t exist... at all times the defendant was performing his duties as a police officer in a criminal investigation”. He argues the “protection of lawful interests” defence doesn’t apply.

Hogan tells the court “the only circumstances” an officer can record without a warrant includes “an urgent treat of serious personal violence”. He says “the crown says clearly these recordings... cannot have been authorised under any of the terms of the warrant”.

He
If only Jubes had recorded just one other.
He might have. But it is my understanding that while recordings may be lawful in a state, recording another officer and using it in a court of law is not allowed.
This is MOO and from info from my partner who works as a cop.

WS is glitchy for me too. Has been all morning. I suppose we’ll all just have to struggle through.

We'll have to wait to see what the judge is going to say. It seems to me that the judge will likely address the larger issue, which is the blot on the justice system created by the shameful handling of investigation into the disappearance of WT. Surely revealing to the world that the investigation was shelved because of petty jealousy and officiousness is a terrible shock to all who live in AU. "Nobody cares about that kid," will go into the annuls of AU history.

I predict that GJ will be given a nominal fine, and that the ire of the judge's comments will be a scathing "get your act together" directed to the former head of the NSW police strike force.
Agree. I feel this trial is serving far more purpose than what was intended and I imagine GJ and Cuneen have been waiting for this opportunity. If he can't speak at the inquest, he can certainly speak at his own trial. Different forum, that's all. The info (and other information regarding the internal workings of NSWP) is getting out there. I doubt he is overly concerned about the eventual 'punishment' he will receive from the court. I believe he is still fighting to find out what happened to William, whatever way he can and this trial is working for him. And for those who can't believe that someone could do that, maybe they could come around to the fact that he is also writing a book....which could very easily then become a film or television series.
