I guess it's like SouthAussie says, they're going to pay more attention if you identify yourself because then they have connections to you to talk to, friends family etc, to support the validity of the tip

Det Supt Willing would not be drawn on whether Monday's search was related to the search of Mr Spedding's home.

'We are conducting a range of inquiries, I don't want to talk about specifics or specific people, but this information is general in nature and it's recently received and information that has come from inquiries conducted by detectives that has led us to search this area,' he said.

The homicide squad said it was searching the area for the first time because of information from the public and its own enquiries.

Information from the public = tip off or something similar
Our own enquiries = Forensic results

I don't think the police are idiots, especially the specialised squads. My interpretation of the info in the links that I supplied is that they may send one officer to check out the veracity of a malicious tip .... not commence a massive search because one peed off person was nasty.

In this case, it has been said many times that it is information and their own inquiries that have led to the search.

abc news 24 reporting from search site say "police received very significant piece of information" to warrant all this manpower, divers due to search swamp this morning.
very significent information, so the informant must have been very credible or could forensics be back with some results?

  • #706
Yeah I think it's forensics. Surely they wouldn't have put so many officers on this unless they knew something. And the fact that they keep pushing that these leads are "only general leads" tells me it's far more than a general lead

Morning all. Hoping for some good (or bad) news today. Fingers crossed this search finds thrm closer to little William.

haha, good for him

Meanwhile, person of interest Bill Spedding remained tight-lipped as police searched the thick forest about 5km from his home.
Senior detectives visited his Bonny Hills property twice yesterday but did not speak with anybody.
Mr Spedding has denied any involvement with William’s disappearance.
Asked yesterday why he had not repaired his work truck after the “S” went missing from “Speddo’s”, he said simply: “Please leave.”

A friend told Daily Mail Australia that Mr Spedding went to his Laurieton office on Bold St on the morning of September 12.

He had received a part needed to fix William's grandmother's washing machine, after attending the Kendall home three days earlier for a quote, and attempted to ring her to make an appointment.

The friend said Mr Spedding then went to go meet his wife for coffee at Buzz Cafe, 140m away from his office on the opposite side of the street. Cafe manager Lisa, who did not wish to give her last name, said she recognised Mr Spedding and his wife but said they hadn't come into the cafe 'in a while'.

She told Daily Mail Australia that police had come into the cafe to ask if she recalled seeing Mr Spedding on September 12. 'I've seen him before but I can't remember that specific day,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

He told Daily Mail Australia Mr Spedding said he had also attended the presentation with a family friend who was taking photos.

Mr Spedding has asked her to review her pictures to see if he is in any of them, the friend said. On September 12, following the presentation, Mr Spedding went to a job in nearby Dunbogan before ringing William's grandmother again.

A spokesman for Laurieton Public School said he had spoken to police, but declined to comment further.

The search area can only be accessed by four-wheel-drive vehicles along a bush track.

Has it been said if BS have a four wheel drive vehicle? Would his van be able to make it into the area LE are searching? If someone had been there in relation to WT then possibly had to be venturing partly on foot?

So anxious to know what led LE to this area.

‘’The community is unbelievable here they are supporting us and I understand many people in Wellington who knew Bill are astounded about the story.’’ Margaret Spedding said.

‘’I am surprised they are not looking elsewhere, we have nothing to do with this’’ she said.

Mr Spedding told media it was “quite surprising” the search was taking place so close to his home.

Funny how MS says "we have nothing to do with this"

Police divers have arrived to search a murky creek not far from an isolated house in dense bush as the investigation into the suspected abduction of William Tyrrell continues.

Police have also brought in a sniffer dog and his specialist handler to help examine the dense bushland

Of course when we are looking for evidence that would also include a body," Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin said at the search site.

i wonder what info police received to make this a search for a body?
and who owns that isolated house?
